## In short

Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop is a charcoal-grilled pork restaurant in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. I tried the 600g charcoal pork platter on a Saturday evening, and the pre-grilled meat, complimentary jjageuli stew and steamed egg, and skirt meat stood out. Verdict: A great pick for families or groups wanting several pork cuts on one platter.

I visited Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop (전봇대 숯불오겹), a neighborhood favorite in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon ღ•ᴗ•ღ Even though it is in a residential area, word has gotten around that it is good enough for the dining room to fill up at dinner!

## Weekend dinner wait and ordering the charcoal pork platter

We arrived at 5:30 on Saturday! Since it was early, there were only one or two tables at first, but it was full by the time we left.. Guests arriving from around 6:30 to 7 had to wait before getting in. If you are planning to visit at peak time on a weekend, make a Naver reservation before you go!

For pork, there are ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), pork neck, whole pork jowl, and skirt meat, plus charcoal-grilled chicken in salted, spicy-marinated, and soy-sauce versions! As it was our first visit, we ordered the signature Charcoal Pork Platter (₩49,900)!

For a finishing dish, there are kimchi rolled noodles, bibim noodles, doenjang sajangbap, soybean paste stew, fried rice, and DIY ramyeon. The drinks included slushy soju and -2°C beer—both sounded so refreshing, but Kim Ori had to drive, so we passed ㅜㅜ

## Reserved table and self-serve accompaniments

![Reserved table at Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter-07-spv2u-900.webp)

![Reserved table with accompaniments](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter-08-zy3u6-900.webp)

We reserved the day before, and our table was all set when we arrived!

There were plenty of vegetables and sides to pair with the meat, including ssam greens, pickled perilla leaves, kimchi, scallion salad, and pickled radish wraps. We could bring more over from the self-serve bar too!

Among them, this seaweed, pickled chili peppers, and pollock roe mayo were such a fun combination! Lightly grill the seaweed over the charcoal and dip it in the pollock roe mayo—the savory, nutty flavor just explodes 💦💦

## Complimentary jjageuli stew and steamed egg

The jjageuli stew and steamed egg come complimentary when you order the charcoal platter!! The jjageuli, a hearty Korean stew, was sweet and boldly seasoned in the best way. It also had plenty of thick pieces of meat, so we really enjoyed it!

The steamed egg was soft and fluffy with a pudding-like texture—so delicious.

We also munched on crispy kimchi pancake while the meat grilled.

## What comes with the 600g charcoal pork platter

✔️ Charcoal Pork Platter (₩49,900)
Pork neck (150g), ogyeop (150g), pork jowl (100g), skirt meat (100g), and front leg (100g), for 600g total—plenty for two! The meat came partially grilled, so it was easy to finish cooking 👍

### Pork jowl and pork neck

We grilled the pork neck and jowl first. Since they had already been partially grilled, they cooked quickly and were ready to eat! The jowl had, as always, such a great texture. It was not overly fatty either, so it did not feel heavy! It paired wonderfully with the pickled perilla leaves too 👍

The pork neck was clean-tasting, tender, and not tough. I do not usually favor pork neck, but the gentle charcoal aroma was so nice that I enjoyed it!

### Ogyeopsal with meljeot

As for the ogyeopsal, need I even say more.. It is one of my favorite cuts already, and the chewy skin plus just-right ratio of fat to lean meat made it so delicious!

It was clean and delicious wrapped in pickled radish, and also so good with chili peppers and garlic scooped from bubbling meljeot, a fermented anchovy sauce!

### Fresh skirt meat and a mushroom-grilling tip

The skirt meat was even better than expected. I usually have skirt meat marinated, so the fresh version was unfamiliar at first, but when I tried it, it had a lovely meaty aroma and was delicious!

![Fresh skirt meat with a great meaty aroma](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter-23-1mx0f-900.webp)

Cut it into bite-size pieces and just dip it in a little salt—so good.. The chewy bite and charcoal-scented meaty flavor were both great; it was my favorite cut after the ogyeopsal!

![Grilled mushrooms infused with pork fat](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter/daejeon-yongun-charcoal-pork-platter-24-u91zn-900.webp)

A tip for grilling mushrooms! Use a mushroom like a little dish and place the meat on top to grill them together.. The pork fat soaks right into the mushroom and makes it delicious.. I put the meat on one by chance because I was worried it would burn, then was surprised by how good it was 💦

## Finishing with soybean paste stew

✔️ Soybean paste stew: ₩2,000
Today’s finishing dish was soybean paste stew! It had a rich, home-style doenjang flavor with lots of ingredients, which I loved. Its lightly spicy kick also made it perfect for a clean finish!

## Final thoughts on Jeonbotdae Sutbul Ogyeop

- Great for enjoying several cuts—ogyeopsal, pork jowl, skirt meat, pork neck, and more—in one set
- Spacious group seating available! Suitable for gatherings and company dinners too
- Floor-style tables and high chairs make it good for visits with babies and families
