## In short

Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) restaurant in the food alley across from Cheonan Intercity Bus Terminal. We ordered the gyukatsu set at 17,000 won and the gyukatsu curry at 18,000 won, grilling each slice on a personal tabletop stove and switching between sauce, wasabi, cabbage and curry rice, with side dishes, salad and rice all refillable. Because you control the doneness yourself, Izawa made a couple's meal that stayed interesting down to the last piece.

I went to Izawa in Cheonan Sinbu-dong and grilled gyukatsu myself on a tabletop grill. Here's how I grilled it, plus the sauce, wasabi and curry pairings, rice and salad refills, and parking info.

My husband and I went out for gyukatsu together again after a while! This time we visited Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch, right near Cheonan Terminal.

Gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) is tasty on its own, but it's so much better grilled piece by piece right in front of you haha. And here you don't just eat gyukatsu plain — you can keep switching it up with sauce, wasabi, salad and curry, so the two of us really had a satisfying meal haha.

## Where is Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch, and what are the hours and parking?

Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch is at 18-1 Meokgeori 10-gil, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, across from Cheonan Intercity Bus Terminal's food alley. Hours are Tue–Sun 11:30–21:00, break time 14:40–16:30, last order 19:50, closed every Monday.

It's about a 3-minute walk from the terminal's main entrance, so it's easy to reach by public transport too. If you're driving, you can use Sinbu Public Parking Lot No. 5. When I visited, the signage in the store said 30 minutes free at the public lot plus 1 hour supported by the restaurant, for a total of 1.5 hours.

## Inside Izawa: cherry blossom ceiling and wood-tone tables

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch was the cherry blossoms! There was a generous cherry blossom decoration up near the ceiling, giving it a much brighter feel than a typical Japanese restaurant.

Overall, with wood-tone tables plus Japanese-style artwork and props, it had a casual Japanese restaurant atmosphere.

The tables weren't too tightly packed either, so it was comfortable for the two of us. It'd also be a good spot to stop by for a meal after a date near Cheonan Terminal.

At the counter there were wet wipes and dry tissues ready, along with a notice that rice and salad were refillable.

If you're visiting Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch, check the receipt review event in advance too.

Things like this can be too late to catch once you've already finished eating haha. That's why I tend to check for events before ordering whenever I visit a restaurant. If there's a perk for joining a review, grab it along with your order!!

## Izawa gyukatsu menu prices and the curry options

Since we came to Izawa, first thing's first — check the gyukatsu!

![Menu page showing gyukatsu set prices](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-08-1mbsi-966.webp)

The gyukatsu set is ₩17,000, the double set is ₩29,000, and the base gyukatsu was listed at 170g. Honestly I came in thinking Izawa = gyukatsu, full stop haha.

![Menu page with rice bowl and noodle dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-09-mnrr9-m-966.webp)

But flipping through the menu, there was steak-don, gyudon (beef rice bowl), pork belly don, mazesoba, basil ramen, cold soba... wait, the menu's way more varied than I expected? What caught my eye was the gyukatsu curry at ₩18,000!

![Menu page for gyukatsu curry and mini curry](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-10-1lcxf-966.webp)

Gyukatsu with curry is hard to get wrong as a combo haha. We tried pairing curry with it too, and it felt totally different from eating gyukatsu plain, so it was nice to alternate between the two. Even if you don't order the gyukatsu curry outright, you can add a mini curry for ₩4,000 — good as a side if you like mixing things up like I do!

And then I spotted a very welcome line at the bottom of the menu: side dishes, salad and rice are all refillable! Haha, grilling a piece of gyukatsu, eating rice, grilling another piece, eating rice — the rice disappears surprisingly fast, but you can get more if you run out.

### Does Izawa still serve pork cutlet? No longer on the menu

While looking at the menu, I noticed pork cutlet items too and thought, 'oh, they sell pork cutlet here too?' Turns out there was a separate menu renewal notice posted in the store. It said pork cutlet is no longer being sold going forward, while gyukatsu will continue. So sad. If you see pork cutlet on the menu, keep in mind it may currently be unavailable — worth checking before you visit!

And when I see something like this, I'm the type who has to go check it out — yep, that's me haha. I took a photo of the origin labeling board too.

![Origin labeling board in the store](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-11-1vxtg-966.webp)

The beef used for the gyukatsu was labeled as from New Zealand, and the rice as domestic (Korean). The menu also had a separate explanation about the meat used — it's not artificially formed meat, but seasoned processed beef made by seasoning beef at a HACCP-certified facility and then flash-freezing it!! I came to pick a menu item and ended up thoroughly checking the menu renewal and origin labeling too haha. Okay, now let's actually eat the gyukatsu!

## How to grill gyukatsu on the tabletop stove, and how doneness changes the texture

When your order arrives at Izawa, a personal tabletop grill comes out with it. The gyukatsu isn't fully cooked through from the start — the sliced meat comes out and you grill it further to your own taste on the grill.

![Personal tabletop grill served alongside the gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-12-1gdfs-966.webp)

![Cross-section of gyukatsu showing pink interior](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-13-1wofx-966.webp)

Looking at the cross-section when it first arrives, the inside is quite pink. I placed one or two pieces on the grill at a time and cooked them back and forth like this.

It was fun how the texture changed a bit depending on how much you grilled it haha. Grilled lightly, the inside felt soft and moist; grilled a little more, the surface turned golden and the savory flavor came out more. Personally, my preference was grilled until the surface was just slightly golden!

## Sauce, wasabi and cabbage pairings, plus rice and salad refills

Eating gyukatsu alone the whole time can get a bit heavy, but Izawa was great because there was so much to pair it with.

![Side dish plate served with the gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-16-11ye0-966.webp)

There was a separate sauce prepared, and wasabi came out generously too. Putting a bit of wasabi on a well-grilled piece of gyukatsu brings a sharp kick right after the savory meat flavor, which cleans your palate perfectly.

![Wasabi placed on a piece of gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-17-ie38q-966.webp)

![A piece of gyukatsu with sauce and wasabi](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-18-w7dy4-966.webp)

Since I love wasabi, I ended up putting it on almost every piece haha. And the cabbage had plenty of sauce on top, which also paired well with the gyukatsu.

![Cabbage salad topped generously with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-19-3tnzv-966.webp)

Crispy, savory gyukatsu with crunchy cabbage on top made for a nice palate cleanser in between bites. Add rice on top and it's a pretty filling meal.

![Rice and side dishes from the gyukatsu set](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-20-1idq3-966.webp)

Rice and salad are refillable too, so just ask for more if you run out.

## Gyukatsu with curry rice: why the meal never got boring

![Table with gyukatsu and curry side by side](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-21-qwu66-966.webp)

Gyukatsu alone is already pretty filling, but the curry that came with it turned out to be a nice bonus too.

![Curry mixed into rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-22-1s8kv-966.webp)

Mixing the curry into the rice and then topping it with a piece of gyukatsu — that combo worked well too haha. We dipped gyukatsu in sauce, topped it with wasabi, and ate curry rice in between, so we could eat all the way through without getting tired of it. We ended up cleaning out the rice and curry completely haha. The photo of the empty bowl at the end says it all..^^

At the start, the grill was piled high with gyukatsu... but before we knew it, we were down to the last piece haha.

![Last piece of gyukatsu left on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-23-1kljv-966.webp)

We finished it off cleanly with a bit of wasabi on the very last piece. And the state of the table after the meal says everything.

![Empty dishes after finishing the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi/izawa-cheonan-sinbu-gyukatsu-curry-wasabi-24-11ldy-966.webp)

Haha, we cleared the plates and finished every bit of the gyukatsu. Since it's food you grill yourself, we got to eat it warm from start to finish, which was great — and grilling it piece by piece meant we could chat and eat slowly together, rather than just plowing through a plate of rice.

## Gyukatsu near Cheonan Terminal: what to know about Izawa Sinbu-dong

> The fun of grilling gyukatsu to your own taste, plus a filling meal near Cheonan Terminal!

If you're craving something a little different in the meat department in Cheonan Sinbu-dong, gyukatsu was a solid choice. What I liked about Izawa was that you grill the gyukatsu yourself on a personal tabletop grill, so you can cook it exactly to your preferred doneness.

With wasabi, sauce and cabbage to mix in, there was so much variety that we never got tired of it, even by the end. It's an easy walk from Cheonan Terminal and the atmosphere is casual, so I'd definitely recommend it as a date spot in Cheonan Sinbu-dong :)
