I was trying to figure out what to eat with my fiancé on a weekend evening, and suddenly I was craving pork belly so badly. I wanted thick cuts of meat and proper grilled kimchi, so I looked up pork belly restaurants in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, and ended up at Cham Dwaejitgan.

This place is known for grilling meat with rice husks and charcoal, and I heard the staff actually grill the meat for you, so I figured it'd be an easy dinner :)

## The vibe at Cham Dwaejitgan Dujeong Branch

![Neatly arranged table at Cham Dwaejitgan Dujeong Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-03-1b9dp-900.webp)

Walking in, the atmosphere was nicer than I expected. Pork belly places usually come to mind as a bit rough and rowdy, but here the tables and chairs were tidy and everything felt well put together. It wasn't too bright or chaotic, so it was easy to chat with my fiancé over dinner.

## Meat grilled with rice husk and charcoal — how was the aroma?

![Tabletop brazier with charcoal and Korean rice husks together](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-05-5zkad-900.webp)

Before visiting Cham Dwaejitgan, what I was most curious about was the grilling method. At first I thought it might be straw-fire grilling, but looking closer, it's charcoal with Korean rice husks added to give the meat aroma. The tabletop brazier had both rice husks and charcoal together, which was definitely different from the pork belly places I usually go to.

Once the meat started cooking, a subtle grilled aroma rose up, but eating it, the smell wasn't strong or overpowering. The savory taste of the pork belly came through clearly, with just a hint of the aroma lingering at the end — it was delicious. I'd read a lot about the rice husk and charcoal in reviews of Cham Dwaejitgan and was curious, but trying it myself, I could really tell that subtle added aroma is this place's signature. Both the taste of the meat itself and the unusual grilling method make this a good pick if you're looking for a different kind of pork belly restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan!

## A grill that cooks minari and kimchi separately

![Grill that cooks meat and kimchi and minari separately](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-06-dtlzw-900.webp)

The grill itself was a bit special too. The meat grills in the center, while the lower section is set up so you can grill kimchi and minari separately. Since the meat and sides didn't mix together, it was easy to eat, and the meat's fat naturally drained down, so the kimchi and minari cooked up deliciously too.

![Generous portion of minari on the lower part of the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-07-kdrxh-900.webp)

I especially love minari, so I was happy the standard serving was more generous than I expected. Wrapping pork belly in minari grilled just until slightly wilted was fragrant and cut through the richness nicely. If you like pork belly with minari, definitely try the combo here at Cham Dwaejitgan!

## An easy dinner thanks to staff-grilled meat

At pork belly places, there's always that moment where one of the two people ends up doing all the grilling and barely gets to eat. At Cham Dwaejitgan, staff grilled the meat for us, so we just had to wait comfortably and then eat. They cut the thick cuts into bite-sized pieces and got the doneness just right, which I really appreciated.

Not having to keep checking the grill to make sure nothing was burning meant we could relax and chat over the meal. This seems like a good spot not just for dates but also for family dinners or work gatherings. When a group goes to a pork belly place, someone always ends up as the designated griller, but here the staff handle it, so everyone can just eat together. If you're looking for a pork belly restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, that's good for gatherings or work dinners where you don't have to grill yourself, this seems like a solid choice.

## Comparing pork belly (2 servings) and pork neck (1 serving)

![Two servings of raw pork belly set at Cham Dwaejitgan](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-10-1h762-900.webp)

We ordered two servings of pork belly and one of pork neck. The pork belly looked thick even before cooking, with a good balance of lean meat and fat. Once it was golden brown, the first bite was juicy inside with the moisture still intact, and it got savorier the more I chewed.

Pork belly that's mostly fat can get greasy fast, but the balance of lean meat and fat here at Cham Dwaejitgan made it easy to eat without feeling heavy. Paired with the grilled kimchi and minari, the combination was spot on.

The pork neck was leaner than the pork belly but wasn't dry at all. It was moderately tender and savory, good for alternating bites with the pork belly. If eating just one cut feels like it's not enough, I'd recommend ordering pork belly and pork neck together like we did. If you usually like thick cuts of meat, this pork belly restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, is worth a visit.

## The potato wraps I couldn't stop thinking about

![Thin potato slices grilled in meat fat](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-13-41020-900.webp)

The most unusual thing I ate that day was the potato wraps. They grill thinly sliced potato in the meat's fat, and at first I wasn't sure how you were even supposed to eat it. But wrapping a piece of pork belly in a well-cooked potato slice worked way better than I expected. The savoriness of the pork belly combined with the mild flavor of the potato had me reaching for more. I've always wrapped meat in lettuce or perilla leaves before, so this was my first time with potato wraps, which made it stick in my memory even more. Alternating between minari and potato wraps meant I never got tired of the flavors until the very end. This unusual side dish is one of the reasons Cham Dwaejitgan stuck with me as a memorable pork belly restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan.

## A refreshing finish with cold noodles

![A bowl of cold noodles with ice flakes floating on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-14-tdd6h-900.webp)

After all that meat, cold noodles were a must. The mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) came with little ice flakes floating on top, and it completely washed away the greasiness left over from the meat — a great choice for a finishing dish. The broth wasn't too bland either; the base seasoning was well done, so I didn't need to add much vinegar or mustard. The noodles had a nice chew, and topping them with a leftover piece of meat before eating was, as expected, delicious. Even though I was already full, I managed to finish it all off to the last bite.

## Final thoughts

![The table at Cham Dwaejitgan near the end of the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari/chamdwaejitgan-dujeong-samgyeopsal-minari-16-o0ygb-900.webp)

The meat grilled with charcoal and rice husks had a subtle aroma, and since the staff grilled it for us, there was nothing to worry about — it was a comfortable meal. The minari serving was generous, and there was even the potato wraps that I hadn't seen easily elsewhere, so there was plenty to mix and match. If you're looking for a pork belly restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, or if you love thick pork belly with minari, give Cham Dwaejitgan a try :) Next time, my fiancé and I are planning to go back for the black pork ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly)!
