## In short

Macheonchwi is a Chinese restaurant in Mannyeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, serving a wide range of Chinese dishes. On this return visit the order was samseon jjamppong (seafood noodle soup in spicy broth, 13,000 won), X.O fried rice (11,000 won) and Peking-style tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, 18,000 won for the small), eaten in comfort thanks to private rooms, 2-person to group tables, a self-bar and baby chairs. The seafood-packed jjamppong and the tangsuyuk, still chewy and tender even after reheating, were the most satisfying dishes at Macheonchwi.

I've been craving jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) lately, so I was torn between ordering delivery or going to a good restaurant near home — and ended up revisiting Macheonchwi, a Chinese restaurant in Daejeon I'd been to before! It was delicious last time too, so I was excited to see what else was on the menu this time haha😆

Apparently there's no parking enforcement in front of the store from 11:30–14:00, so that's good to know😊

I'd already been here before, but the entrance still looks so elegant haha😆 There are plenty of tables — 2-person, 4-person, and group seating.

There are also several private rooms where you can dine more privately. So it seemed like a good place not just for regular meals, but also for company dinners, family gatherings, or a first meeting between families where you need a quieter, more comfortable space😊

There was a self-serve bar for extra side dishes, plus baby chairs, hair ties, and even a coffee machine for after the meal. I hadn't brought a hair tie that day, so I was glad they had some ready for me😊 These small conveniences made the meal that much more comfortable.

## What we ordered at Macheonchwi on this second visit

Macheonchwi really has a wide variety of menu items, so I'll mainly introduce what we ordered this time!

- Samseon jjamppong ₩13,000
- X.O fried rice ₩11,000
- Peking-style tangsuyuk (small) ₩18,000
- Zero-sugar cola ₩2,000

Last time I had nakji jjamppong (octopus jjamppong), but this time I ordered samseon jjamppong. My husband said the fried rice he had last time was really good, so he picked the same dish again haha😆 And you can't come to a Chinese restaurant without tangsuyuk, right? So we ordered the Peking-style tangsuyuk this time too!

![Peking-style tangsuyuk topped with onion and radish sprouts](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-mancheonchwi-seafood-jjamppong/daejeon-mancheonchwi-seafood-jjamppong-10-gj8ib-1200.webp)

### Peking-style tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)

The tangsuyuk came out first. There are no vegetables in the sauce — instead, onion, carrot, and radish sprouts are placed on top of the fried pork. Since I don't really eat the vegetables that usually sit in the sauce, I liked this better! You could even enjoy the onion's crunchy texture haha😆

The batter has a glutinous rice base, so it's slightly chewy with just the right thickness — not tough at all, just soft. The meat seemed fresh too, no off smell, and it was so delicious!👍 The tangsuyuk sauce had a sweet-ish flavor.

### How does Macheonchwi's X.O fried rice taste?

🍚 X.O fried rice
It comes with jjajang sauce (black bean sauce) and egg soup on the side. It's regular fried rice with X.O sauce added, giving it extra saltiness and seafood aroma for an even tastier fried rice. My husband usually orders fried rice when we eat Chinese food, and he said this one is his number one. The jjajang sauce was well-seasoned too, so I'd like to try the jjajang noodles next time. I think I said the same thing last time, but I ended up ordering jjamppong again haha😅

## Samseon jjamppong packed with abalone, prawns, clams and squid

🍜 Samseon jjamppong
First off, the bowl is huge! It's not just the bowl — the ingredients inside are generous too, so just looking at it felt satisfying haha😆

![Samseon jjamppong served in a large bowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-mancheonchwi-seafood-jjamppong/daejeon-mancheonchwi-seafood-jjamppong-17-1sogi-966.webp)

![Samseon jjamppong loaded with ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/daejeon-mancheonchwi-seafood-jjamppong/daejeon-mancheonchwi-seafood-jjamppong-18-15xrf-966.webp)

There's abalone and large shrimp as the main ingredients, plus lots of clams and squid inside.

Once you clear away the toppings, the noodles appear underneath.

The menu marks the broth's spiciness at 🌶️🌶️, but to me it felt more like 🌶️! It wasn't too intense, so I could eat it all the way through without getting tired of it👍 The seafood was generous and the broth was refreshing, so I was glad I came on a day I was craving jjamppong.

## Tangsuyuk taken home, and what to order next time

Last time we finished everything without leaving a bite, practically stuffed haha😆 This time we had some tangsuyuk left over, so we packed it up and reheated it in the air fryer for dinner. It was great that the tangsuyuk was still delicious even reheated at home.

Next time I visit, I definitely want to try the jjajang dishes. Or I'd like to try the course meal, though the yusanseul (mixed seafood and vegetable stir-fry) included in the course is something I haven't tried yet, so I'm still a bit on the fence about it haha😂 There were a lot of customers at lunch that day too, including several office workers who had reserved for a lunch get-together. The food is good and the seating is varied, so it seems like a solid spot for group gatherings, which is probably why so many people come here.

We had a great meal on this revisit, and next time I want to try the jjajang dishes or the course meal! If we have a special occasion coming up, like a parent's birthday or a family event, I'll have to come back here with the family🥰
