## In short

Hwangbihong is a jjamppong-focused Chinese restaurant in Busong-dong, Iksan, where the noodles, bone broth and side dishes are all said to be made in house. The order here was meat jjamppong, fried rice and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and the meat jjamppong arrived with a surprisingly generous pile of toppings over green chive noodles rather than the usual yellow ones. With water cups sitting in a switched-on UV sterilizer at the self-serve bar and kimchi made on site, Hwangbihong is an easy recommendation for jjamppong in Iksan.

Hi, this is Mat-jip Reviewer :) I've been in Gunsan for over a year now, so I've been to quite a few Chinese restaurants there haha. Gunsan is famous for its Chinese restaurants, so I end up going a lot lol. Because of that, I hardly ever go to Chinese restaurants in other areas — but somehow I keep finding myself at ones in Iksan too~

This time I visited Hwangbihong, a well-known spot in Busong-dong!! It's an amazing place that makes everything from the noodles to the broth to the side dishes in-house :) The portions are so generous that one bowl of jjamppong nearly filled me up completely lol. Let me give you a quick introduction to Hwangbihong in Busong-dong — I highly recommend the jjamppong at this Iksan Chinese restaurant!!

## Meat jjamppong and fried rice at Hwangbihong — siraegi jjamppong next time

What I happily ate at Hwangbihong today was meat jjamppong and fried rice~ They also have siraegi jjamppong (dried radish greens jjamppong), and I debated, but I wanted meat jjamppong so badly that... I'll come back for the siraegi jjamppong next time lol. Looking at the tables next to me, everyone seemed to have ordered a siraegi jjamppong haha.

![Hwangbihong's meat jjamppong loaded with toppings](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-04-5qy9v-m-1200.webp)

![Meat jjamppong broth made with bone broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-05-fwh1u-900.webp)

![Close-up of the toppings in the meat jjamppong](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-06-1mylb-900.webp)

After some deliberation I settled on the meat jjamppong, and I was honestly shocked at how generous both the broth and the toppings were!! It says they make their own bone broth for the jjamppong, and it really is delicious, ㅠㅠ. I really haven't seen another meat jjamppong with this much stuff in it... lol. By the time I finished, I was seriously about to burst,,,

![Noodles lifted up from the jjamppong bowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-08-1vh70-900.webp)

![Greenish chive noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-09-xq66r-900.webp)

### Green chive noodles instead of the usual yellow jjamppong noodles

Hwangbihong's jjamppong noodles aren't regular noodles either — they're chive noodles~ Yellow noodles are common, but these had a slightly greenish tint, which made them different lol. The moment you lift the noodles up, the color really shows lol. It made me curious and look around wondering what exactly was mixed in haha.

![Hwangbihong's mini tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-10-1rsrb-815.webp)

![Close-up of crispy tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-11-1hr4z-900.webp)

![Mini tangsuyuk with large chunks of meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-12-pw7w8-900.webp)

## Is Hwangbihong's mini tangsuyuk enough for two?

Here's the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) we ordered as an extra~ Hwangbihong has a mini tangsuyuk that's the perfect amount for two people to share like a side dish!! You definitely have to order this — it's seriously so good,,, I found myself wondering if it's made with glutinous rice batter, it had that kind of crunch, and the meat pieces were big too, so the texture was excellent!!! Highly recommend this menu haha.

![Tangsuyuk piled on top of fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-13-1l0oo-900.webp)

I ate it on top of the fried rice like a side dish and it was delicious haha. The tangsuyuk portion looks a lot different from how it looks in photos lol. The meat-to-batter ratio is high so it's quite filling,,, if two people who eat about a normal single serving go together, you'll probably have leftovers lol.

## Hwangbihong's exterior and parking in Busong-dong

![Hwangbihong's red signboard in Busong-dong](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-14-xzagw-781.webp)

![Hwangbihong's exterior on a street corner](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-15-yz4pw-900.webp)

A red sign is basically mandatory for a Chinese restaurant lol. Hwangbihong is on a corner, so the sign is easy to spot! There's no dedicated parking lot, but there's plenty of roadside parking nearby :)

![Tables inside Hwangbihong](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-16-1dub2-900.webp)

![Restaurant layout with a counter in front of the kitchen](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-17-hqmit-900.webp)

There's a counter right in front of the kitchen, which is a somewhat unique layout lol. There are aprons at the counter, but also at the self-serve bar, so keep that in mind~

![Hwangbihong's jjamppong-focused menu board](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-18-1thff-900.webp)

## Hwangbihong's menu and what we ordered

True to being a jjamppong spot, this place competes on jjamppong alone!! The menu itself is basically jjamppong haha. The jjamppong is delicious, but I also totally recommend the fried rice :) It's really good lol. And they give you jjamppong broth as a default too, which is nice!

- Meat jjamppong
- Fried rice
- Mini tangsuyuk

![Soy sauce, vinegar, and chili powder on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-20-1ni9n-900.webp)

![Drawer of utensils beside the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-21-1694e-900.webp)

Every table has soy sauce, vinegar, and chili powder ready! The utensils are on the side~

![Self-serve bar with water cups and personal plates](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-22-1jgaa-900.webp)

### Self-serve bar: water cups kept in a UV sterilizer

At Hwangbihong's self-serve bar there are water cups, personal plates and so on, and the water cups are kept inside a UV sterilizer..! A lot of places just put them in there without actually turning it on, but here the power was properly on~

![Homemade kimchi and onion side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-23-14rxg-900.webp)

They also make the kimchi themselves~ It really feels like a Busong-dong favorite made with a lot of care haha. I usually only eat the onions at Chinese restaurants, but since they said the kimchi is homemade I ate that too lol. The side dishes at Hwangbihong are delicious too :)

## Bone broth simmering in a cast-iron cauldron

![Large cauldron set up to simmer bone broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong/iksan-busong-dong-jjamppong-hwangbihong-24-1brit-900.webp)

It says they boil their own bone broth in-house, and sure enough there was a huge cauldron off to one side lol. Looking inside, it was all set up ready to simmer bones — it was packed full of big bones lol. There was also siraegi (dried radish greens) off to the side; it really felt like an Iksan restaurant made with a lot of care haha.

If you're going to eat jjamppong at a Chinese restaurant in Iksan, I really think Hwangbihong is the place to go!! You have to get the tangsuyuk too!!!
