## In short

Taegyeongok is a Korean restaurant on Gukchebosang-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu, close to Gyeongbuk Hospital Station and the Jung-gu district office. On a weekend afternoon two friends ordered the signature yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice), Hamheung mul-bibim naengmyeon (cold noodles with spicy sauce and broth) and a half-and-half plate of kimchi and meat dumplings, with neat side dishes such as beef radish soup and braised quail eggs. Taegyeongok is an easy, accessible choice on a day that calls for a clean Korean meal.

Episode one, a special on a leisurely weekend feast. It had been a genuinely long time since I had a relaxed weekend. I wrote up the to-do list I never manage to get through on normal days, went out for tea by myself, and then met up with R to hunt down a good restaurant in Dongin-dong for a clean Korean meal. It was a thoroughly satisfying way for two aging-yet-young adults to spend a weekend.

Taegyeongok. As a dog-friendly restaurant in Daegu, the clean yukhoe bibimbap and mul-bibim naengmyeon paired with Taegyeongok's dumplings made for the perfect combination — here's the review from that day's visit.

A small but definite spoiler warning.

## Taegyeongok's hours and how to order

Taegyeongok is closed every Monday and open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 21:30. There's a break time from 15:30 to 17:00, and last orders are at 14:30 and 20:30.

There's a menu board like the one above at the entrance, and each table also has a tablet for ordering, which is convenient.

## Inside Taegyeongok: the room and the side dishes

The interior of Taegyeongok was very pleasant, decked out with simple, modern pieces that gave off a quietly refined atmosphere. Suddenly, celadon and pottery alert.

The basic side dishes were a cut above — including braised quail eggs, which I love — such a tidy spread that I felt like I could finish a whole bowl of rice on the banchan alone.

## What is Taegyeongok's signature yukhoe bibimbap like?

What I ordered was Taegyeongok's signature dish, the yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice). It's introduced as the house specialty, mixed with 1++ grade Korean beef and seasonal ingredients, and my very first impression was that it reminded me of the tidy Korean table settings served up in PD Na Young-seok's Youn's Kitchen. That's how striking the visual was.

Couldn't miss the last shot either.

![Close-up of the yukhoe bibimbap before mixing](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-samdeok-yukhoe-bibimbap/taegyeongok-daegu-samdeok-yukhoe-bibimbap-11-1ymsa-900.webp)

![Yukhoe bibimbap mixed together with the rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-samdeok-yukhoe-bibimbap/taegyeongok-daegu-samdeok-yukhoe-bibimbap-12-1lurk-900.webp)

There was so much yukhoe (raw beef) piled on that even after mixing everything with the rice, it still looked roughly half rice, half beef — you really feel how generous the portion is. It's lightly seasoned already, so you can enjoy it just as it is, wonderfully savory, without needing to add extra gochujang.

The beef radish soup served alongside had a deep, rich flavor, and dipping into it every now and then between bites of the bibimbap was a nice touch.

## Hamheung mul-bibim naengmyeon for a hot weekend afternoon

R ordered the Hamheung mul-bibim naengmyeon (cold spicy noodles in broth). He doesn't usually go for cold food, but R seems to genuinely enjoy this kind of dish. (The look on his face while waiting for it to arrive was something like the photo above...)

![Vertical shot of the Hamheung mul-bibim naengmyeon at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-samdeok-yukhoe-bibimbap/taegyeongok-daegu-samdeok-yukhoe-bibimbap-15-itxig-900.webp)

That weekend afternoon, under a blazing sun, it was exactly the moment you start craving something cold. So the naengmyeon (cold noodles) landed perfectly, and it exceeded expectations.

As the rule goes, you cut naengmyeon with scissors just once, and after that you're supposed to mix it vigorously with chopsticks — that's how I've always heard it, anyway. In any case, R mixed his that way and then dove straight into some energetic myeonchigi (slurping the noodles), letting out one exclamation after another about how the tangy, distinctive charm of naengmyeon really came through.

## A side of half-and-half dumplings at Taegyeongok

If there's one side dish I'd tell you to order no matter what, it's these Taegyeongok dumplings. We ordered the half-and-half option, which comes with three kimchi dumplings and three meat dumplings — they had a real handmade feel, with chewy wrappers and fillings packed so full that these must be made with genuine care and know-how.

I took a bite of both the meat dumpling and the kimchi dumpling and snapped a proof shot — hopefully my description comes across vividly enough!

## Is Taegyeongok worth it for weekend lunch in Daegu?

So that was our lunch as (genuine) forty-somethings. Spending our weekend leisurely, two aging-yet-young adults, we opened up about our respective worries over a rare proper meal together — and the topic that day was a heavy one: 'how do we adapt in the age of AI?' It's something I've been genuinely absorbed in lately, so we went at it in depth for quite a while, though of course we ended up back on the topic of Reels in the end... sigh.

Having a real, substantial conversation at a good restaurant in Dongin-dong, Daegu, paired with a delicious meal, gave the whole thing a strange business-meeting kind of feel, haha. Anyway, what stuck with me most was the excellent texture and flavor I found in this tidy table setting. With its prime location near the Jung-gu district office in Daegu, this is surely a popular spot with office workers.
