This place has such a presence from the outside alone! It is Mandong Jegwa, a popular bakery in Yeonnam-dong near Hongdae.

There were quite a few groups of foreign visitors ahead of me, and people were leaving with armfuls of bread. At a glance, it really had that must-stop bakery-crawl feeling when you come to Yeonnam-dong, haha.

Even after 1 pm, there were so many delicious-looking breads out like this that my mouth started watering the second I saw them, haha.

## Choosing breads while sampling

And one thing I loved about Mandong Jegwa! While I was choosing bread, they brought out samples now and then ^^ There were so many kinds that I was wondering what to buy, so it was great to taste them before choosing. I thought they would give us just one sample, but they kept bringing more, hahaha.

There were so many varieties, including the signature garlic baguette and cappuccino.

For breads such as the onion bagel, you just ask for them when you pay and they take them out for you!

There were so many breads that looked amazing, and since I could sample them, I wanted to try everything—they were chewy, nicely sweet, and delicious, haha. I got a little greedy that day, hahaha, and bought a good mix: garlic baguette, cappuccino, Emmental, and chestnut loaf 🩷

I even bought a shopping bag, haha. The cappuccino needed refrigeration, so they put it in an insulated bag—it felt like they took great care with the packaging too 🥰

## A garlic baguette that is moist all the way through

The first thing I ate as soon as I got home was the garlic baguette 👍 You really cannot leave out the garlic baguette here. One bite makes it immediately clear why it is Mandong Jegwa's signature item. Rather than feeling like ordinary garlic bread with sauce only spread on the outside, the garlic flavor soaks deeply into the inside too, making it incredibly moist.

The outside is lightly crisp while the inside is moist; it is sweet, savory, and full of garlic aroma—such an addictive flavor! The garlic baguette really is the signature item people mention first when they think of Mandong Jegwa, so I recommend it!! After trying it, I understood why people make the effort to come all the way here while exploring bakeries in Yeonnam-dong.

## Cappuccino, Emmental, and chestnut loaf too

Also, the cappuccino is often named alongside the garlic baguette as one of Mandong Jegwa's signature items. The very soft bread has a coffee flavor, so it is sweet and fragrant—a flavor coffee-cream lovers would especially enjoy. And because I love cheese, I could not pass by the Emmental either, haha. It is a bread with three cheeses including Emmental cheese inside chewy mochi dough, and it was so delicious 🩷

I picked up a chestnut loaf too. Among all the flashy signature items, it is a quietly, consistently recommended menu item. Even the basic breads have to be good for a bakery to be truly good, and Mandong Jegwa had great dough texture overall, so it was fun choosing and eating a little of this and that.

Above all, there are quite a lot of breads, and each one has a distinct personality, so next time I would like to try the ones I did not buy this time ^^ If you are visiting Yeonnam-dong and looking for a bakery, I would recommend Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch as part of a bakery crawl >< I think I will buy the garlic baguette again next time. This is not a bread you eat once and call it done, hahaha 🥖🧄
