## In short

Ssosam 208 Suwon Station Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi, where staff grill pork belly, pork neck and cheongyeopsal on a volcano-shaped stone plate. Two friends stopping in after work shared the small mixed stone-grill platter (360g) for 35,500 won with lava fondue cheese and Paldo bibimmyeon, one drinking Saero soju and the other, who was driving, sticking to Hite Zero non-alcoholic beer. The cheongyeopsal (pork jowl) was the standout, good enough that they ordered a second plate.

Walking around near Suwon Station, the Ssosam 208 sign caught my eye right away, so it wasn't hard to find at all. The exterior has a retro vibe overall, with a full glass front that lets you catch a glimpse of the atmosphere inside. By dinnertime you could see customers inside and feel the meat-grilling energy from outside — easy to spot!

Attention, anyone looking for an outdoor-style BBQ spot near Suwon Station! On nice-weather days especially, they open up the glass front for an almost al fresco vibe — it looked like a great atmosphere for meat and drinks with a friend after work.

## What is the restaurant like inside?

![Retro-style interior of the BBQ restaurant with soft lighting](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-05-kxlvr-966.webp)

![Spacious interior with multiple tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-06-mjs5s-966.webp)

Stepping inside, it had an overall retro BBQ-restaurant feel. The lighting was soft, so instead of being too bright or chaotic, it felt warm and comfortable — nice for a drink in the evening. The place itself is bigger than expected, with plenty of tables, making it a good option for friend gatherings or work dinners too.

## Ssosam 208 Suwon Station Branch menu and prices

Unlike your typical spot that only sells pork belly, Ssosam 208 Suwon Station Branch had a surprisingly varied menu. The signature mixed stone-grill platter lets you try pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal all at once, great for when you want to sample several cuts evenly. Single-item options included pork cheek jowl, original Daegu makchang (beef intestine), chewy pork skin, and even a spicy braised galbi dish served in a big metal bowl.

There were also plenty of side dishes to pair with the meat: lava fondue cheese, snow-flake kimchi fried rice on the volcanic stone, spicy stir-fried ramyeon noodles, flying fish roe steamed egg, and more. For meals, there's pho, mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), naeng-memil (cold buckwheat noodles), Paldo bibimmyeon, and beef-belly doenjang stew, all good for a palate cleanser or a hearty finish after the meat. As for drinks, soju and beer are the basics, plus a wide selection to choose from depending on your taste.

## Table setting and the sauces that come with it

![Volcano-shaped stone grill with basic side dishes and various sauces set up](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-07-foxz4-966.webp)

Even before the meat arrives, the basic setup already fills the table! Each table has a distinctive grill pan with a raised center — instead of the usual flat pork belly griddle, you grill on a volcano-shaped stone pan here, which is fun to watch too.

The basic side dishes were generous — myeongi-namul (mountain garlic leaves), scallion strips, kimchi, and tofu, all served up nicely.

What really stood out compared to other BBQ places was the sauce lineup! Most places just give you sesame oil, salt, or ssamjang, but here one whole side of the table was packed with sauces. Besides the basic dipping sauce, there was fragrant cumin (jeuran), a spicy-savory wasabi garlic sauce, and a salty, umami-rich volcano soy sauce. Taking turns dipping into each one was genuinely fun.

### Free rice noodles, refills included

It was a bit surprising that pho comes as a standard side at a BBQ place. The broth is spicy and tangy, so a spoonful mid-meal really refreshes your palate. When you're eating rich, fatty meat, having a spicy broth like this to fall back on works so well. And you can refill it once! We kept reaching for another spoonful of broth while eating the meat.

## Mixed stone-grill platter, small (360g): enough for two

Today we wanted to try a bit of everything for two, so we first ordered the mixed stone-grill platter, small.

![Mixed stone-grill platter (small) 360g with pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-08-1xr6q-966.webp)

Order the mixed stone-grill platter and you get pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal — 360g total — all at once. Rather than eating just one cut, being able to try three evenly was perfect for two people.

### Staff grill the pork for you from start to finish

Another appeal of this place is that they grill the meat for you! Eating well at a BBQ place is one thing, but flipping the meat constantly and watching it doesn't burn can honestly get tiring. Here, the staff grill everything from start to finish, so all we had to do was hold our chopsticks — so convenient! They watch the timing and set perfectly grilled pieces right in front of us. Especially when chatting and having a drink with a friend, not having to worry about the grill meant we could focus more on the conversation.

![Meat turning golden brown on the stone grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-09-fr55i-966.webp)

This really is the proper happiness of coming to a good pork belly spot near Suwon Station! The meat was grilled to a golden brown and we tried a piece right away. There's a right way to enjoy it, so take note and try it a few different ways!

## Pork belly, better with a different sauce each bite

![A golden-grilled piece of pork belly](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-10-1vddi-966.webp)

![Pork belly grilling on the volcano stone pan](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-11-1149n-966.webp)

Pork belly really is best right when it's golden brown!

![Cross-section of a juicy piece of pork belly](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-12-ylqn3-966.webp)

The outside was nutty and crisp while the inside stayed moist with the juices intact, so the savory flavor really came through with each bite.

![Pork belly dipped in salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-13-1wn92-966.webp)

![Pork belly dipped in wasabi garlic sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-14-11lx5-966.webp)

![Pork belly dipped in volcano soy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-15-1v8nm-966.webp)

It was delicious dipped in plain salt, dipped in the wasabi garlic sauce, and dipped in the volcano soy sauce too! Looking at the photos again makes me want more, haha! I especially liked dipping it in the volcano soy sauce — savory and umami, my chopsticks kept heading straight for that sauce!! The wasabi garlic sauce had that sharp wasabi kick with garlic depth, which cut right through the richness of the pork belly.

What can I say — wrapping it in myeongi-namul was delicious, and eating it with scallion strips was pure bliss! With so many combinations to try, I could see exactly why this place is popular as a Suwon Station restaurant.

## Pork neck with cumin and grilled kimchi

The pork neck had a clean, chewy texture that I liked. It's a different flavor from the rich, fatty pork belly — more of a lighter meat taste — so alternating between the two never got old. I was glad we'd gone with the mixed platter after all. The cumin especially added an interesting twist to the meat's natural aroma with a spice note,

![Pork neck served with myeongi-namul, grilled kimchi, and garlic](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-16-1xbtp-966.webp)

and the combo of myeongi-namul with golden-grilled kimchi and garlic was also so tasty!! Putting grilled kimchi on top of a piece of meat gives you that tangy, spicy kimchi flavor that perfectly balances the meat's richness.

![Lettuce wrap with meat, scallion strips, and garlic](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-17-1ghwx-966.webp)

![A plate of vegetable wraps ordered separately](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-18-rxjuz-966.webp)

You can't eat BBQ without lettuce wraps. We ordered vegetable wraps separately too, piling meat onto lettuce along with scallion strips and garlic. Eating meat with vegetables is much fresher than meat alone, and you don't feel weighed down even after eating a lot. To properly enjoy pork belly and pork neck at this top Suwon Station BBQ spot, you've got to do the wraps right too!

## What is cheongyeopsal? It turns out to be pork jowl

And the dish I really fell for that day — cheongyeopsal. I wasn't sure what it was at first, but when I asked, it turned out to be pork jowl.

The moment I tried a piece, the chewy texture and rich meaty aroma hit right away, and the more I chewed the deeper the flavor got — so good.

## Dipping the pork in lava fondue cheese

The lava fondue cheese, one of Ssosam 208's signature dishes, was visually striking, just as the name suggests. Cheese starts bubbling in the center of the volcano-shaped stone pan, looking exactly like cheese lava boiling up from inside a volcano! Watching the melted cheese puff up and bubble felt like a mini volcanic eruption right in front of us. Dip a well-grilled piece of pork belly into the cheese, and the hot, stretchy cheese wraps the meat in moisture — one bite and the rich cheese flavor bursts through, mingling with the pork belly's juices for double the savoriness!

![Cheongyeopsal dipped in lava fondue cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-19-16glj-966.webp)

Dipping the cheongyeopsal into Ssosam 208's signature lava fondue cheese was flavor explosion and juice explosion! Wow, I don't know how many times I gave it a thumbs up!

The pork belly, once dunked deep in the cheese, gets the cheese clinging right onto the meat, and the savory aroma just bursts through. The meat's own juices meeting the cheese's richness — true flavor explosion!

![A piece of pork belly with cheese stretching off it](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-20-16s8r-966.webp)

It's a completely different taste from eating it plain, so dipping it in once in a while was really fun. The cheese's thick, soft texture combined with the golden-grilled meat's salty flavor made this combo one you keep going back for. If you visit Ssosam 208, this lava fondue cheese is definitely worth trying at least once.

### Why we ordered a second plate of cheongyeopsal

Eating it with the lava fondue cheese, we ended up ordering more cheongyeopsal. Once we started that combo, there was really no stopping. This time too, the staff grilled it perfectly for us again, so once more we just sat back with our chopsticks and enjoyed. Once you fall for the chewy, savory cheongyeopsal, you can't stop reaching for it. Wrapping it in myeongi-namul, eating it with scallion strips, switching between sauces — mixing it all up like this, the meat disappeared in no time.

## Paldo bibimmyeon topped with a slice of pork belly

And when eating meat, you can't skip bibimmyeon. So we ordered a Paldo bibimmyeon too. What can I say — put a piece of golden-grilled pork belly on top of the tangy, spicy-sweet bibimmyeon and eat them together — flavor explosion!!!!

![Paldo bibimmyeon ordered along with the meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-21-fol63-966.webp)

![Grilled pork belly placed on top of bibimmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-22-10rkk-966.webp)

The spicy-tangy seasoning of the bibimmyeon perfectly balanced the rich, fatty flavor of the pork belly, and eating the two together was really delicious. Take a bite, then grab more meat, then twirl up more noodles... this combo really is a classic.

## Soju for one, non-alcoholic beer for the friend driving

I had my shot of soju, of course. My friend had driven, so she had a non-alcoholic beer with us instead.

![A shot of soju enjoyed with the pork belly](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-23-8uslq-966.webp)

![Can of non-alcoholic beer had by the friend who was driving](https://img.superchart.com/images/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night/ssosam-208-suwon-station-pork-belly-night-24-6n7dr-966.webp)

Even so, my friend said it was still tasty paired with meat, even non-alcoholic, and she enjoyed it plenty. Even on days you can't drink, you can still fully enjoy the vibe over BBQ. Meeting up with a friend after work, chatting away with the smell of grilling meat, mixing up all these different tasty combinations — this is exactly the small happiness of after-work life.
