Among all of it, there was one restaurant that kicked off the trip on such a good note that I wanted to share a vivid review with you all. On day one of the long-awaited trip, our first destination was our reserved accommodation, St. John's Hotel. This is one of the few, if not the only, restaurants in Gangneung where you can enjoy makguksu (buckwheat noodles) with an ocean view, so I'd recommend it to anyone wanting an atmospheric meal during their trip. If you're looking for a solid lunch spot in Gangneung to start off your first day well, pay attention to this one! When we arrived, plenty of parking and a cool ocean view greeted us first. The tables were spaced generously apart, with group seating well set up too, making it a great spot for a family gathering in Gangneung. The chewy dumpling skin, made with nutty buckwheat flour, was packed edge to edge with meat and vegetables, so every bite released a burst of juice. After the cool dongchimi makguksu, dipping the warm, mild buckwheat mandu into the pollack sashimi makguksu seasoning was such a great pairing! Even though we ordered two bowls of noodles plus mandu — a pretty big amount — it was so good we couldn't stop, scraping the bowls clean at this genuine Gangneung makguksu favorite. ## After lunch: Namhangjin Beach and Anmok Coffee Street Full and satisfied, we headed out to the nearby beach. It's close to Anmok Coffee Street, one of Gangneung's signature attractions, making it easy to fit into a travel route — a great course for a beach walk or a stroll through the café street after lunch. The whole walk to check in at St. John's Hotel, we kept saying what a great choice lunch had been! A cool ocean view, a comfortable space, and fresh makguksu made exactly to your taste — Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu Namhangjin branch had it all.
