## In short

J's Pot Magok Branch is a Chinese-style hot pot restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, located on basement level 2 of COEX Magok Tower A near Magongnaru Station. Visiting for dinner with a friend, the writer ordered the tomato hot pot set and beef brisket kimchi udon, and found the sauce bar's recommended ratios made mixing soy and chili sauces easy. Portions were generous even without extra noodles, and the wide dining room made it feel like a great spot for group dinners too.

I had plans in Magok today so I went and tried hot pot — it was so good I'm writing this up right away!

Go into basement level 2 of the COEX building at Magongnaru Station and J's Pot is right there. It's technically B1 of building A, but just head underground and look for the food court area — super easy to find!

Also there's a J's Pot Pangyo branch, so be careful when booking... I got confused and accidentally booked Pangyo, haha.

## Vibe of the space and the solo hot pot bar seats

The lunch set looked pretty good too, both the composition and price, and they don't just serve hot pot — there are various side dishes too, so I might try a side next time! The portions are actually pretty huge so there's a real risk of getting too full to finish, lol.

The interior was really spacious, clean, and comfortable. Even though there was a group dinner happening the day I went, there was still plenty of room for me and my friend. Up front there are bar-style seats for solo hot pot, so eating alone wouldn't feel awkward at all — people working nearby could easily pop in for a quick lunch. So jealous of having this many restaurants around!

This is the bar seating — looks really good for eating solo lol. I'm challenging myself to try the tomato hot pot alone someday! There's this strange phenomenon where the older I get, the fewer friends I have, so now I've got a reason to try eating alone. Guess I'll have to come back here for that.

There was a panda there, so cute I had to snap a photo lol — is it telling me not to be lonely? Next time I'll bring it along while I eat.

## What we ordered — the tomato hot pot set and beef brisket kimchi udon

I ordered the tomato hot pot set. So excited! They even give you shrimp balls — but honestly I'm most excited for the broth, haha.

My friend who came with me said she was craving something spicy and Korean-style, so I went 'huh?' — turns out the menu had beef brisket kimchi udon!

If you come with a friend who's not great with Chinese food, this kind of menu works really well. There's Chinese-style stuff and non-Chinese-style stuff both, so it seems like a great place where everyone can find something they like.

## The sauce bar has recommended mixing ratios written out

There's a huge sauce bar in the middle that rivals Haidilao. There were so many sauces I was stuck figuring out what to make, but there were recommended sauce ratios written below, so it was easy to just follow those. I made a soy-sauce base, and my friend went with chili sauce.

7pm really is the hungriest time of day...

Such practiced hands — what is she eating? While we were mixing sauces, the hot pot and everything got set up fast. I was super hungry so having it come out quickly was great. Time for the real eating show to begin!

### The tomato hot pot set — what's in it and how much

The tomato hot pot set comes with meat + glass noodles + assorted vegetables + 2pc shrimp balls. You can add rice or extra noodles if you like, but I felt like this was enough on its own so I didn't add anything.

Looking at the ingredients I thought I might need rice, but by the time I finished I was too full to walk,, I'm not someone who eats a huge amount either, so for women I think the portion is plenty even without adding extras! Adding different noodles here would probably also be delicious.

I tried the shrimp balls that come with the set, and they were plump and delicious. Protein really is the best.

### My friend's order — beef brisket kimchi udon

My friend's beef brisket kimchi udon was super spicy and addictively rice-craving hot. She said the udon here is genuinely delicious — chewy noodles with lots of brisket and toppings that made her feel really full and satisfied after finishing it! I'll have to try this menu myself next time.

## Officially recommended as a hot pot spot near Magongnaru

Officially recommending this as a hot pot spot near Magongnaru! They even have a curious Mongolian hot pot menu, so I've decided to come back again with my Mongolian girl friends — and with that I'll wrap up this post. The vibe feels like an upscale Chinese restaurant, spacious and comfortable, so it seems perfect for group dinners too. Great taste, great atmosphere — highly, highly recommend.
