## In short

Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch is a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) and pork soup restaurant on Mosan 1-gil in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. On a lunch visit with mom and a baby, sundaeguk and pork soup cost 11,000 won each, staff set up the baby chair themselves, and the self-serve bar held cucumber peppers and raw onion alongside the kkakdugi. With a large parking lot and a clean dining room, Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk is an easy choice for a meal with a baby or with older parents.

Mom and I were trying to figure out what to eat for lunch, and I really wanted something hearty. Whenever I want a solid, filling meal, guk-bap (soup with rice) is honestly unbeatable. So I went looking for a guk-bap place in Pyeongtaek and ended up at Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk. Turns out it's already a well-known local favorite!

I'm going to walk through the taste, the vibe of the place, and how convenient the parking was at this Pyeongtaek Jije Station favorite :)

## Is parking easy at Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk?

I visited the Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak branch. The very first thing I liked when I got there was the parking.

![Spacious parking lot at the Dongsak branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-02-tmjdg-966.webp)

![Easy parking space at the guk-bap restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-03-dnd92-966.webp)

Sketchy parking near a guk-bap place is always a bit stressful, but here the lot is huge, so driving over was easy. I actually saw a lot of families eating there, and it felt totally fine to show up by car. Even parking beginners could handle this lot, no problem. This is definitely not a place you'd skip because you're worried about parking!!

## Inside the restaurant and the baby chair setup

![Exterior of the restaurant with waiting chairs out front](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-04-1jxt9-966.webp)

The Dongsak branch has a clean exterior and is a fairly sizable place, so it didn't feel cramped even on my first visit. See those waiting chairs out front? There were quite a few customers when I visited, and apparently there's often a wait during peak times. We got there a bit earlier than lunch rush, so we got seated without waiting!

![Spacious interior with multiple tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-05-19g7t-966.webp)

![Clean, well-kept dining hall seating](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-06-71yy2-966.webp)

Once we walked in, the interior turned out to be bigger than I expected too. There were plenty of tables, so it looked well suited to solo diners, family meals, or bigger groups alike. Overall it felt well maintained, giving off a fresher vibe than the usual old-school guk-bap-shop atmosphere. The moment mom stepped in, she said, 'This is so clean compared to other guk-bap places~~'

![Baby chair set up at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-07-xay1c-966.webp)

And since I came with my baby, I was glad they had a baby chair ready. Even better, once I mentioned it to a staff member, they brought it over and set it up at our seat themselves!! When you're eating out with a baby, these little things end up mattering a lot for how comfortable the meal feels. Thanks to that, I could eat pretty comfortably too.

![Stack of takeout containers to one side of the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-08-149tw-966.webp)

Looking over to one side of the restaurant, I noticed a huge stack of takeout containers. It seemed like plenty of people order takeout or delivery on top of the dine-in customers. There were also quite a few people waiting out front!!

![Seasoning station with salt, perilla seed powder, salted shrimp and more](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-09-aek4d-966.webp)

![Self-serve chili paste and cheongyang chili peppers](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-10-yzl01-966.webp)

And of course the essentials for guk-bap are all there — salt, perilla seed powder, salted shrimp, chili paste, cheongyang chili peppers, all set out!

![Disposable aprons next to the register](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-11-1trt8-966.webp)

Next to the register there were also disposable aprons, so if you're worried about spilling on your clothes, make sure to grab one haha.

![Sign for the raw takeout discount](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-12-eakcl-966.webp)

## Takeout prices and the Naver receipt-review freebie

Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk gives an extra discount on raw (uncooked) takeout orders — 2 servings came out to ₩18,000! That's like getting 3 servings for the price of 2!! I thought I'd get some sundaeguk to go for my husband later!

![Pricing sign for 2 servings of takeout sundaeguk](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-13-1thr9-966.webp)

But wait, if you also eat in the restaurant? There's an even bigger discount ~~ 2 servings for ₩17,000!!! Such a steal, right? These days most guk-bap places are already over ₩10,000, and then they throw in a takeout discount on top ~~ Is the owner even making any money?

Apparently if you write a Naver receipt review, they give you free chapssal sundae (sticky rice blood sausage) as a service item, so don't forget to write your review and grab some! It felt like too much food for just mom and me to finish, so we skipped it this time, but next time I come with my husband, I'm definitely writing that receipt review and getting the chapssal sundae 🤍

## What we ordered at Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk and what it cost

That day we ordered one sundaeguk for ₩11,000 and one pork soup for ₩11,000.

## Kkakdugi and the self-serve banchan bar

![Kkakdugi and geotjeori served with the soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-15-11poc-966.webp)

First they brought out the kimchi, of course! This kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) was seriously addictive. I think I refilled it at least three times.. My stomach ended up more full of kkakdugi than guk-bap, honestly haha.

![Self-serve banchan bar with raw onion and cucumber peppers](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-16-6yf7o-966.webp)

You can just help yourself to more kkakdugi and geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi) from here! The self-serve bar also had raw onion and cucumber peppers. Dipping cucumber pepper and raw onion into soybean paste is such a good pairing with guk-bap, right? A lot of guk-bap places don't even have cucumber pepper or raw onion, so I was so happy to see them here!! Having a bite of cucumber pepper alongside the soup cut the richness and added a nice crunch — it worked really well together. It's no secret that this alone made this place a new regular spot in my heart haha.

![Table set with sundaeguk and pork soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-17-10vqn-966.webp)

## Sundaeguk vs pork soup: which one to order

Now the sundaeguk and pork soup arrived!

![Sundaeguk loaded with meat and blood sausage](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-18-1ah52-966.webp)

I tried the sundaeguk first. The broth was pretty clean-tasting, so even people who find sundaeguk intimidating could probably handle this one.

More than anything, how is there this much pork in a sundae-based soup? It didn't feel like just rice in broth — there was plenty of meat and sundae (blood sausage) together, so one bowl left me quite full. The broth itself wasn't too heavy or murky, more clean and easy to eat — genuinely delicious!

![A bowl of pork soup packed with fillings](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundae-gukbap-19-zqxpr-1200.webp)

I also tried the pork soup we ordered alongside it. The pork soup, too, was clean-tasting with almost no gaminess.

And again, so much filling in there, right? Personally, when I eat guk-bap, I prefer plenty of solid ingredients over just a lot of broth, and this really delivered on that front. Sundaeguk gives you that combo of sundae and meat together, while the pork soup is more meat-focused and filling — either one is a solid choice.

## Final verdict: is this Pyeongtaek gukbap spot worth a visit?

This time I tried both the sundaeguk and pork soup at Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch. With guk-bap, no matter how generous the portion, a strong smell can put me off — but here I could eat cleanly without that worry. I saw all kinds of people there — solo diners, families, office workers. The clean interior especially seems like something older guests would appreciate too.

It seems like a solid place to visit in Pyeongtaek whenever you're craving a hearty meal like sundaeguk or pork soup. Next time I'd love to try the other guk-bap menu items I didn't get to this time :)
