## In short

Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch is a beef bone and beef short rib hot pot restaurant on Bukgun 3-gil in the Bomun district of Gyeongju. The restaurant sits in its own standalone building with a large private parking lot, and a partitioned booth booked through Naver Reservation held the signature Ppyeoberest hot pot at medium spice, finished with kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and gondre juk (mountain vegetable porridge). For a family or group of four or more travelling around Bomun, Hyoeunok is worth reserving in advance.

Gyeongju is one of my absolute favorite places and I go all the time, but the pitfall of Gyeongju is always parking. There are so many good restaurants, plenty that work fine for two people, but the ones that can actually fit a group of four tend to be a bit out of the way. This time I went to Hyoeunok, a restaurant near Bomun in Gyeongju, and it solved every one of those problems!

## Where is Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch, and what are its hours and reservation options?

The address for Hyoeunok, a restaurant near Bomun in Gyeongju, is 12-6 Bukgun 3-gil, 1st floor, Hyoeunok Gyeongju, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk. It's open 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00, and you can book through Naver Reservation. Groups are welcome and dogs are allowed too.

## Why Hyoeunok is worth a trip: parking, table spacing and portion size

Every time I go on a Gyeongju trip, I notice I end up going back to the same places. This time, Hyoeunok turned out to be a local favorite right near where we were staying. What I liked most were the parking, the space between tables, and the portion sizes.

I go to Gyeongju with my family often too, and it's always cramped, with tables squeezed way too close together. But Hyoeunok, a spot locals actually go to, has an incredibly spacious parking lot, and since you can reserve ahead, there's no need to wait!

## Outside Hyoeunok: a large private parking lot and a standalone building

Hyoeunok has a huge parking lot to start with, and it's a standalone building. So after you round the view of Bomun Lake, it just pops right into view — genuinely very easy to find!

![Spacious dedicated parking lot at Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-03-1vci6-966.webp)

If getting there is a hassle on a hot day or a cold day, that's basically a recipe for an argument, right...? That whole problem just disappears with this location.

## Inside Hyoeunok: mother-of-pearl interiors and partitioned booth seats

From the moment you walk in, there's this gleaming mother-of-pearl vanity, and for some reason it just puts you in a good mood? Maybe that's just me haha.

There's this distinct Hyoeunok atmosphere in every corner, and honestly, I'm going to be coming to Gyeongju with my family again soon, and when I do, I'm definitely coming back here! The vibe alone makes it comfortable for anyone — mom, dad, whoever — no pressure at all. If you're thinking about a family trip, don't go far, just book Hyoeunok, a restaurant near Bomun in Gyeongju, ahead of time and go.

The tables are set up for four people, and since we booked ahead, we got a reservation seat — it had partitions, so it felt a little private. The spacing between tables was also pretty generous, and there were other family groups there besides us too! Seems like this place is a family favorite.

## Side dishes at Hyoeunok are self-serve

The side dishes are simple! Since Hyoeunok specializes in hot pot — Ppyeoberest (beef bone hot pot), beef short rib hot pot, and tteokgalbi — the side dishes that go with the mains are self-serve.

## How big is the Ppyeoberest hot pot at medium spice?

We obviously ordered the signature Ppyeoberest hot pot! At first I thought, how do you even eat this? But we ended up eating it so happily haha. Honestly I worried at first that the meat pieces would just be big with not much actual quantity, but as we kept eating, it turned out to be so generous.

![Table setup for the Ppyeoberest beef bone hot pot at Hyoeunok](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-11-1nf76-m-966.webp)

![The Ppyeoberest hot pot pot starting to boil](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-12-210vy-966.webp)

Once the broth starts boiling, the meat slips right off the bone, and it's not chewy at all. It comes off the bone so cleanly, and there are mild, medium, and spicy options, but we went with medium! It was just right — nicely spicy and easy to eat. Maybe that's why there was zero greasiness from the beef bone. Also, Ppyeoberest comes with beef, gondre juk, and kalguksu, and you really have to add the gondre juk!

![Beef bone hot pot meat coming off the bone easily](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-13-nrki3-966.webp)

The kkakdugi (radish kimchi) was so good too, and the kimchi went perfectly with the kalguksu and the porridge, so you have to eat them together!!

![Kkakdugi and kimchi served with the hot pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-15-1e2va-966.webp)

![Kalguksu noodles added into the hot pot broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-16-arjwk-966.webp)

![Gondre juk cooked as the finishing course](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-17-hxhpg-966.webp)

### The eating order at Hyoeunok: beef, then kalguksu, then gondre juk

You add things in this order: meat, then kalguksu, then gondre juk. As the broth keeps boiling, it gets richer and nuttier, and you just keep going back for more.

![The final plate of beef bone hot pot meat picked clean off the bone](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat/gyeongju-bomun-hyoeunok-parking-reserved-seat-18-1ip47-966.webp)

With bones that come off this easily, there's no reason not to eat them!

## Who should book a table at Hyoeunok?

For family trips, trips with friends, or group gatherings, this feels like the number one restaurant near Bomun in Gyeongju. Honestly, just writing this makes me want to eat it again, so I think I'll be heading back to Gyeongju soon. If you're thinking about a Gyeongju trip now that the weather's turning cool, don't overthink it — just go to Hyoeunok, a spot the locals actually eat at!
