The hot dessert these days is fruit mochi — whole pieces of fruit wrapped in mochi. I kept seeing Hanjeongseon fruit mochi everywhere and wanted to try it myself, and it just so happened that [Tareudang], famous for fruit mochi on Hwangnidang-gil, was on my Gyeongju trip route. So I stopped by to grab some to go before heading back up to Seoul.

After trying it myself, the fruit pieces were huge and the mochi skin wrapping them was thin and chewy — I got why it's such a popular Gyeongju dessert. Here's my honest review, from the location and wait time to the mochi prices and recommended flavors!

## Is there a wait at Tareudang on a weekday afternoon?

Even on a Monday afternoon at 12:20pm, there was a line outside Tareudang and I waited about 10 minutes. It's a small takeout-focused shop on Sajeong-ro in Gyeongju, so the line formed outside the store.

I visited around 12:20pm on the last day of my Gyeongju trip, right after lunch. I figured I could buy right away since it was a weekday lunch hour, but there was actually quite a wait even then. I lined up outside and waited about 10 minutes!

Tareudang is a small, takeout-focused shop with a pretty cramped interior (in the back, the mochi 'factory' was running nonstop). The wait tends to be especially long on weekends, and if you visit late, popular flavors can sell out — so if you have a specific flavor in mind, I'd recommend going early.

## Tareudang fruit mochi flavors and prices

Tareudang's fruit mochi range from ₩5,500 to ₩7,500. Buying four gets you ₩500 off each, so I bought exactly four and saved ₩2,000 total.

## Taking Tareudang mochi home: pack it with a cooler bag

Tareudang's fruit mochi contain fresh fruit and yogurt, so keeping them cold is essential. The cooler bag is normally ₩1,000, but I got both a box and a cooler bag for free by joining Tareudang's Naver review event.

Since it's a dessert with fruit and yogurt inside, keeping it cold matters a lot — I joined the Naver review event and got a box and cooler bag included!

If you're not eating it right away in Gyeongju but buying it on the last day of your trip to bring home, I'd recommend leaving a review and grabbing the cooler bag (Gyeongju was still pretty hot when I visited...).

They put an ice pack inside the cooler bag, and if you buy four, they pack them nicely in a box too. Each mochi is individually wrapped in colorful packaging, so opening the box looks super pretty!! Great as a Gyeongju trip souvenir treat or to buy in bulk and share.

## Fresh chocolate mochi at a rest stop on the way to Seoul

Of the four Tareudang mochi I bought to take home, I ended up eating the chocolate and peach yogurt ones first at a rest stop on the way to Seoul. I'd bought peach, mango, gold kiwi, and chocolate — four total — and there was a color hint on the wrapping for each flavor.

I bought these planning to eat them at home, but I couldn't resist and ended up eating two at a rest stop.

I was like, 'which one is which?' but it turned out the color gave it away. I'd bought peach, mango, gold kiwi, and chocolate — four total — and had a little feast of chocolate and peach yogurt.

The chocolate mochi has something like cinnamon powder dusted on the outside, with thick, fudgy chocolate packed inside the rice cake.

One bite in, and the inside is seriously packed with thick, fudgy chocolate!!! With that rich chocolate stuffed into the chewy mochi, even one bite gives you a proper sugar rush.

## How does the low-sugar peach yogurt mochi taste?

Apparently the most popular flavors at Tareudang are mango and peach. I figured the peach yogurt mochi (low-sugar) wouldn't be very sweet since it's labeled low-sugar, but it was sweeter than expected.

Apparently mango and peach are the hottest flavors at Tareudang? I thought the peach yogurt mochi (low-sugar) would be light on sweetness given the 'low-sugar' label, but it was sweeter than I expected and really tasty.

The tangy yogurt paired with sweet peach flesh — this is why people are so into fruit mochi. Above all, the peach itself was genuinely delicious! Since fruit is the star of this dessert, the flavor of the fruit inside really matters, and I was satisfied because the flesh was sweet and tasty. I also liked that the mochi wrapping it was thin and chewy, so it didn't overpower the fruit flavor much.

## Worth it as a Gyeongju trip snack

Each Tareudang fruit mochi is pretty large, so it works better to buy a variety and share among a group. If you're looking for a different kind of dessert on Hwangnidang-gil, or a packable snack to grab on the last day of your Gyeongju trip, I'd recommend it.

Fruit mochi has been so hot lately that I was curious, and I finally got to properly try it on my Gyeongju trip. Each piece is pretty big, so rather than eating several yourself, it's better to buy a variety with friends and share! If you're looking for a different kind of dessert on Hwangnidang-gil, or a packable snack for the last day of your Gyeongju trip, give [Tareudang]'s fruit mochi a try. Next time I visit, I want to try the fig and strawberry (winter) flavors I haven't had yet. Hanjeongseon, wait up — Tareudang's coming for you.
