## In short

Thai Yami is a Thai restaurant in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu, tucked behind the Novotel near Jungangno Station. Meeting a friend to hand over a wedding invitation, the writer and her friend shared three dishes between two people — pad thai at 15,000 won, kai phrai at 21,000 won and poo pad pong curry at 26,000 won — and the gently spicy poo pad pong curry was the most memorable. Thai Yami is a good pick when you want something other than pasta or grilled meat around Dongseongno.

I hadn't seen a close friend in a while, so we set up a meetup in Gyodong, Daegu — partly to catch up, partly to hand over my wedding invitation :) Instead of the usual pasta or steak, I was really craving Thai food like pad thai that day.

So I looked around and ended up at Thai Yami, a restaurant in Gyodong, Daegu. Honestly I only picked it because I wanted Thai food, but the food was so much better than I expected haha — a Dongseongno spot I really ended up loving.

## Where is Thai Yami? Walking there from Jungangno Station

Thai Yami is located in Gyodong, Daegu. It's about 481m from Jungangno Station Exit 3, an easy walk, and it's easiest to think of it as being behind the Novotel by Jungangno Station.

It's a pretty convenient spot for anyone meeting a friend or on a date around Gyodong or Dongseongno. There are so many pretty cafés and bars in Gyodong these days, but when you actually want a proper meal it can be hard to decide where to go. If you want something a bit different from the usual, Thai food is a great option!

## Inside Thai Yami, a Thai restaurant near Dongseongno

The interior of Thai Yami was clean and tidy overall, which I liked. Rather than being flashy or heavily exotic like you might expect from a Thai restaurant, it had a comfortable vibe for a meal — good for coming with a friend or for a date too.

I'd heard that Thai Yami usually has a wait even on regular days, and after visiting I could see why. A lot of people are looking for Thai food in Gyodong, and above all the food is tasty enough that I imagine a lot of people come back for more.

We spent ages agonizing over the menu and ended up ordering three dishes: kai phrai, pad thai, and poo pad pong curry.

## Thai Yami menu review: pad thai, kai phrai and poo pad pong curry

### Pad thai, 15,000 won

Thai Yami's pad thai is ₩15,000. Since we came for Thai food, pad thai was non-negotiable!

![A plate of pad thai at Thai Yami](https://img.superchart.com/images/taiyami-daegu-gyodong-thai-dinner/taiyami-daegu-gyodong-thai-dinner-09-1gffn-900.webp)

The stir-fried rice noodles came together with bean sprouts and various ingredients for a flavor that was sweet-ish and savory, and I kept reaching for more with my chopsticks. The crunchy bean sprouts throughout kept it from feeling too heavy despite being a noodle dish, and it seemed like a fairly approachable dish even for people trying Thai food for the first time.

I already like pad thai in general, and Thai Yami's version hit exactly my taste! That distinctive sweet-and-salty flavor made it easy to eat in between bites of the other dishes too.

### Kai phrai (fried chicken), 21,000 won

Kai phrai is ₩21,000, a dish where you get to enjoy crispy chicken. This ended up being a surprisingly delicious dish that day!

Crispy on the outside and juicy inside, I just kept picking at this one on its own. Even people who might find strong Thai spices a bit much could probably eat this comfortably.

It paired well when eaten alongside saucier dishes like the pad thai or the curry. The portion was pretty generous too — at first I wondered how we'd ever finish it... but it was so good we just kept eating haha. If you're visiting with a group, it seems like a good one to order as a shared side.

### Poo pad pong curry (crab curry), 26,000 won

Thai Yami's poo pad pong curry is ₩26,000. This was the dish I genuinely enjoyed the most that day!

If you like Thai food, there's a good chance you're a poo pad pong curry fan — it's one of Thailand's signature dishes, with crab folded into a soft, savory curry sauce. Thai Yami's version wasn't just sweet and mellow; it had a slight kick of spice added in, which honestly made me like it even more.

Curries can sometimes start to feel a bit greasy the more you eat, but the spiciness cut through it here and there so it never got tiring by the end. The sauce itself was so good that it went perfectly with rice. If I had to pick which of that day's dishes I'd order again, the poo pad pong curry would be an automatic repeat!

## Three dishes for two people: how were the portions at Thai Yami?

Ordering pad thai, kai phrai, and poo pad pong curry between the two of us at Thai Yami turned out to be a pretty generous amount of food. Honestly, when everything arrived at once, we both went "isn't this way too much?" haha — the kai phrai portion alone was sizeable, on top of the pad thai and curry.

But as we kept chatting and eating bite by bite, at some point the plates were nearly empty. Between talking about wedding prep and catching up on life, plus eating good food, I felt like I'd chosen a great spot for a wedding-invitation meetup :) Since all three dishes had different flavors, ordering several to share was much better than sticking to just one.

Just a heads up — they give you a free bowl of rice noodle soup (guksu) if you write a Naver receipt review ◡̈

## Final verdict: is Thai Yami worth a meal in Gyodong, Daegu?

From pad thai to poo pad pong curry to kai phrai, Thai Yami's food generally suits Korean palates well, so it seems like a comfortable place to visit whether you already love Thai food or you're trying it for the first time.

My husband happens to love Thai food too, so while eating I was already thinking I need to bring him here next time haha. If you're like me, meeting a friend in Dongseongno or Gyodong and tired of the usual pasta or meat every time, I recommend Thai Yami, a restaurant in Gyodong, Daegu. I only went because I was craving Thai food, but it exceeded my expectations, so next time I'm planning to come back with my husband :) If you're looking for a place to eat in Gyodong, Daegu, love pad thai or poo pad pong curry, or want something different around Dongseongno, this is worth a visit.
