Tareudang is a takeout fruit mochi dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. Sharing peach, kiwi and pineapple mochi with a friend, Tareudang's chewy mochi skin, cream, red bean and castella powder stayed light thanks to the fruit, and the favorite split between peach and pineapple. Tareudang is an easy one-handed dessert before or after a walk near Cheomseongdae, or packed back to your guesthouse.

Hi, this is Mingjju Mangjju, eating and traveling around! Walking through Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, after a meal you always end up craving something a little sweet, right? This time I visited Tareudang, famous for mochi packed with whole fruit! The fruit mochi looked so pretty that I'd been curious about the place, and after trying it myself, the biggest draw is really how the tart fruit, chewy mochi skin, and nutty castella powder come together — so I wanted to share it.

## What Tareudang looks like on Hwangnidang-gil

Tareudang is a dessert shop located on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju. It's a takeout-only spot, so it has that easy feel of stopping by while exploring Hwangnidang-gil and grabbing something to go!

![People waiting in front of Tareudang's takeout counter](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-03-p5eqa-900.webp)

True to its reputation as a waiting-line spot on Hwangnidang-gil, plenty of people were already lined up! It seemed like a great snack while wandering around Hwangnidang-gil, or something to pick up before heading back to your accommodation. The packaging was also neat and clean, so it seemed like a nice simple dessert gift to bring for family or friends while traveling in Gyeongju.

## What is Tareudang's fruit mochi made of?

![Tareudang fruit mochi dusted with castella powder](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-04-1b30v-900.webp)

The biggest feature of Tareudang's mochi is, of course, the fruit! Inside the chewy mochi skin there's fruit, soft cream, and red bean, topped with castella powder. It's not just heavily sweet like a plain rice cake — the fruit's tartness makes it feel lighter and fresher to eat than expected.

Above all, the mochi skin is chewy, so the texture is really good. The combination of soft filling, chewy skin, and juicy fruit all in one bite was great.

## Peach vs kiwi vs pineapple: which mochi won?

After some deliberation, we picked three kinds: peach, kiwi, and pineapple. Each fruit has a clearly different flavor, so I'd recommend buying a few kinds and sharing them!

![Peach mochi and kiwi mochi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-07-ncu2r-900.webp)

![Cross-section of the peach mochi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-08-1mebf-900.webp)

The peach was sweet and fragrant, blending softly with everything overall, while the kiwi had a tartness that stood out as a nice accent among the sweet red bean and cream.

![Pineapple mochi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-09-1ek50-900.webp)

![Cross-section of the pineapple mochi showing juice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-10-1c3f0-900.webp)

The pineapple was also juicy and refreshing — delicious. Personally, I think with this kind of fruit mochi, the fruit needs to be tart so it doesn't get sickly sweet when eaten with the other ingredients. All three combined the tart fruit, castella powder, and chewy mochi skin really well, and we enjoyed them a lot :) My favorite of the three was peach, and my friend's was pineapple :)

## An easy takeout dessert to eat while walking Hwangnidang-gil

![Holding Tareudang fruit mochi in one hand](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-11-1xnx6-900.webp)

![Enjoying fruit mochi on the streets of Hwangnidang-gil](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks/gyeongju-hwangnidan-tardang-fruit-mochi-three-picks-12-tmbkq-900.webp)

Hwangnidang-gil already has so many cafés and dessert shops, but Tareudang clearly stands out with its fruit-filled mochi! It's easy to hold and eat with one hand, and it can be packed to go, so it's great to eat while sightseeing around Hwangnidang-gil — and being fairly close to Cheomseongdae, it's also a good stop before or after a walk. If you prefer a refreshing fruit-based dessert over something heavy like cake or bread, this one will especially suit your taste.

## Final verdict on Tareudang

If you're looking for something different on a Gyeongju trip, Tareudang is worth trying at least once! The tartness of the fruit, the chewy mochi skin, and the castella powder come together so well — a total thumbs-up dessert spot in Gyeongju. Like us, it's fun to pick a few flavors like peach, kiwi, and pineapple based on your taste and share them, and it also packs well to eat back at your guesthouse. If you're looking for a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot and want something chewy and refreshing instead of the usual bread or cake, I recommend Tareudang's fruit mochi!
