## In short

Suragan Tteokbang is a rice cake shop at 41 Noyeon-ro in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, where omegi-tteok (sweet red-bean rice cakes) are picked one by one at 1,000 won each for gift packing or nationwide delivery. At Suragan Tteokbang the omegi-tteok went into a flower-pattern box with a ribbon handle, along with one pack of baram-tteok (crescent-shaped rice cake, 4,000 won), then were cut open at home to compare types. The nut, black bean and bean-powder omegi-tteok all had a gentle red bean sweetness that made them easy to give as a gift.

One stop on my Jeju trip was picking up rice cakes as gifts, and that's how I ended up at Suragan Tteokbang. Every time I come back from a trip I usually bring tangerine chocolate or some tangerine dessert, but this time I wanted to try something different — Jeju omegi-tteok as a gift. I looked around at reviews of a few Jeju rice cake shops before deciding on this one, so let me write it up in detail.

## Where is Suragan Tteokbang, and is there parking? 41 Noyeon-ro, on the main road

Suragan Tteokbang sits at 41 Noyeon-ro, Jeju City. The second floor of the building has a spa, and Suragan Tteokbang is on the first floor, so the big red signage made it easy to spot. It's right on the main road rather than tucked into an alley, so it was easy to get to whether by rental car or on foot. There was also a spot to pull over briefly nearby, which made loading things up pretty painless.

## Nationwide delivery from Suragan Tteokbang, packed with ice packs and dry ice

Personally, my favorite part was that they ship anywhere in the country. Being able to send this to friends or family who couldn't make it to Jeju with me felt like a real plus. Knowing it ships with ice packs and dry ice included put my mind at ease about freshness too.

### What the shop looks like from the street

![Entrance to Suragan Tteokbang with red-lettered sign](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-03-1q00n-900.webp)

The sign at the entrance has white and red lettering arranged together, along with a round rice-cake-shaped logo object hanging by it, so it stood out even from a distance.

The storefront is floor-to-ceiling glass, so you can see right inside, which made it easy for a first-time visitor like me to walk in without hesitation. The building itself houses several businesses, but the first-floor rice cake shop sign is big enough that there's no mistaking it.

## Inside Suragan Tteokbang: display case and open work space

![Display case at Suragan Tteokbang with rice cakes arranged by type](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-05-1u1ov-900.webp)

Walking in, the display case catches your eye first, with different rice cakes neatly arranged by type on trays.

Baram-tteok, nokdu-songpyeon, omegi-tteok, and various chapssaltteok were all clearly separated by category, and each product had a label listing ingredients and expiration date, which gave me the impression they take hygiene seriously.

![Rice cake work space and order information sheets inside the shop](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-08-ubcb1-900.webp)

Further inside I could see the actual work space where the rice cakes are made — it looked like the setup where they're made fresh each day and put straight out for display. There were also freezer storage notices and QR code order info sheets placed around the store, so even a first-time visitor could easily find whatever info they needed.

## Omegi-tteok prices: 1,000 won each, gift packs from 6,000 won for 5

Suragan Tteokbang's signature item is, of course, omegi-tteok. You can pick and choose from oyster omegi-tteok, bean powder omegi-tteok, nut omegi-tteok, and black sesame omegi-tteok depending on your taste, all priced at ₩1,000 per piece, with gift-box sets ranging from 5 pieces (₩6,000) to 10 (₩11,000), 20 (₩22,000), 30 (₩30,000), and 50 (₩50,000).

![Shipping price board including delivery fees for omegi-tteok](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-10-1qy5t-900.webp)

For shipping, there's a separate price list including delivery fees, ranging from 20 pieces (₩27,000) up to 100 pieces (₩105,000), so ordering wasn't confusing at all.

Besides omegi-tteok, they also ship glutinous rice cakes like yakbap (18 pieces, ₩27,000), assorted chapssaltteok (16 pieces, ₩27,000), pumpkin injeolmi (16 pieces, ₩27,000), and mugwort injeolmi (16 pieces, ₩27,000). I bought an omegi-tteok gift box along with a pack of baram-tteok (₩4,000) for a gift. There was also an event running where if you bring your receipt and leave a review, you get an extra omegi-tteok, so worth keeping in mind.

## The gift box up close: flower pattern with a ribbon handle

![Flower-pattern gift box with a ribbon handle](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-11-k78hk-900.webp)

![Inside the box with ice pack and individually wrapped omegi-tteok](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-12-17p02-900.webp)

What struck me most was the packaging. The flower-pattern box, which felt like a traditional confection gift set, came with a ribbon-shaped handle, so just carrying it around made it obviously a gift.

Opening the box, the omegi-tteok were individually wrapped alongside an ice pack, with a note explaining storage and thawing tucked inside. The note said to eat within 2 hours of taking it out of the freezer, and since natural thawing doesn't work well, to unwrap it, cut it in half, and microwave for 20–30 seconds — detailed enough that whoever received the gift wouldn't be confused.

## Cutting the omegi-tteok open: nuts, black bean and bean powder compared

![Close-up of nut omegi-tteok](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-14-1si0z-900.webp)

![Black bean omegi-tteok covered on the outside](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-15-q4fu4-900.webp)

![Bean powder coated omegi-tteok](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-16-1xlur-900.webp)

![Several omegi-tteok in different colors](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-17-1gb2i-900.webp)

![Omegi-tteok cut and plated for tasting](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-18-4cpg3-900.webp)

Bringing them home and cutting each one open, the differences between types stood out even more. The nut omegi-tteok had peanuts, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds packed in tightly, so a nutty aroma burst out with every bite, while the black bean omegi-tteok had beans covering the whole surface, so biting in gave both the firm texture of the beans and the chewiness of the rice cake at once. The bean powder omegi-tteok had a pale coating of bean powder all over, giving it a soft feel like injeolmi, and the nutty bean powder scent that stuck to my hands was nice too.

![Cross-section of omegi-tteok cut in half showing red bean filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box/jeju-nohyeong-omegi-tteok-ribbon-gift-box-19-1pj66-900.webp)

Cutting the rice cake in half showed a long strip of red bean paste inside. Even though the outer colors differed (a pumpkin-colored dough, a mugwort-green dough, and so on), the red bean paste inside was consistently mildly sweet without being heavy, so I could eat several in a row without getting tired of it. The dough base seemed to differ by color — the orange-tinted dough had a natural color like sweet pumpkin or sweet potato mixed in, while the green dough carried a subtle mugwort scent.

## What I liked about Suragan Tteokbang

The taste was good too. The distinctively chewy texture of omegi-tteok combined with the crunch of bean powder and nuts made it fun to eat, and the sweetness was mild rather than sharp, so I kept reaching for more. The baram-tteok had a strong mugwort aroma but the red bean sweetness wasn't overdone, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. The staff also explained the packaging and storage methods one by one, so I could get any questions answered on the spot.

## What could be better

Since omegi-tteok is meant to be kept frozen, it's hard to leave out at room temperature for long. As the note said, you have to eat it within 2 hours of taking it out of the freezer, and since natural thawing doesn't work well, there's the extra step of microwaving it briefly. That said, I understood this as just part of keeping it fresh, so it wasn't a big drawback.

## Final verdict on Suragan Tteokbang

If tangerine chocolate is the only Jeju souvenir that comes to mind, I'd suggest also considering omegi-tteok from Suragan Tteokbang, a Jeju rice cake shop. Between the careful packaging, the clean flavor, and the option to ship anywhere nationwide, I liked it both as a gift and for portioning out to eat myself. If you're ever passing through Nohyeong-dong in Jeju, it's worth a stop.
