Today I visited Pyeongtaek Jumulleok, one of my go-to recommendations for lunch near Pyeongtaek Station. It's even been featured on TV shows like Hometown at 6 and Live Tonight! There's a parking space in front of the restaurant, but it's very small — you can also use the Tongbok Market public parking lot instead.

### A Century Shop with three halls that also works for group meals

Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch is certified as a "Century Store" (백년가게) by South Korea's Ministry of SMEs and Startups, meaning it has been steadily loved for over 30 years. It's split into three dining halls, making it a great spot for group gatherings too. Every table lets you keep your shoes on.

If you leave a receipt review on Naver Place, you can get one of: fried shrimp, solo bibimbap, a rice ball, or a soda. A totally great event that gets you an extra dish haha^_^

## What's on the Pyeongtaek Jumulleok menu, and what's the signature dish?

The signature dishes include the 50-year-tradition Korean beef galbitang (short rib soup), a hangover soup sold for 50 years, and Korean beef yukgaejang (spicy beef soup). Gochujang jumulleok, great for sharing, is also listed as a signature dish. Apparently the dish featured on Hometown at 6 was actually the soy sauce version, ganjang jumulleok!

There's also a solo set meal, and a new menu item — chowoo noodles made with Korean beef broth :) With so many options, it's a great spot for lunch too.

## Gochujang jumulleok for two (₩16,000): the table spread and the taste

I ordered the gochujang jumulleok (₩16,000) for two at Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch, and it came out just 5 minutes after ordering. Rice is ordered separately. Along with the jumulleok, a nice set of side dishes came out too — a tidy spread that lives up to its reputation as a Pyeongtaek Station favorite.

![Side dishes including pickled onions, eggplant, and white kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch-12-1xe1f-900.webp)

The banchan (side dishes) included pickled onions, seasoned eggplant, and baek-kimchi (white kimchi). They were all great with rice, and paired well with the jumulleok too.

The gochujang jumulleok came piled high on a wide griddle — red-seasoned meat generously topped with fresh cabbage and green onion, no holding back. Vivid green scallions and sweet cabbage mingling with the spicy-sweet gochujang sauce — doesn't it already look like a win before you even taste it?

Once the heat kicks in, the natural sweetness released from the vegetables blends right into the spicy gochujang sauce. The deep smoky flavor that comes through even during cooking really grabs your eyes and nose before you take a single bite.

### Adding glass noodles to the pan at the end

When the meat is nearly done, they drop in the glass noodle sarie (side noodles) to stir-fry together — and that's when the gochujang jumulleok is finally ready to eat!

![Gochujang jumulleok stir-fried with glass noodles added](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch-15-ha4zf-900.webp)

![Close-up of the fully cooked gochujang jumulleok](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch-16-zqe2l-900.webp)

Eating the well-cooked meat together with the clean-tasting cabbage in one bite was a perfect match — chewy yet mild meat flavor mingling with the vegetable juices. Spicy-sweet with deep smoky notes, my chopsticks just wouldn't stop.

### How spicy is the gochujang jumulleok?

The chewy glass noodles, soaked in that spicy smoky sauce, took the texture and flavor to another level! They said it's a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun spice level, but even people who really can't handle spice would enjoy it.

![Lettuce wrap with meat and vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch-18-1rzhl-900.webp)

Wrapping fresh lettuce around well-cooked meat and clean vegetables for a bite — the crunch and chewiness together doubled the enjoyment. It's got that addictive flavor you never get tired of, so I was totally satisfied.

![Doenjang jjigae served in a stone pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch-19-1q2mx-900.webp)

## Homemade-style doenjang jjigae (₩7,000) and the receipt-review solo bibimbap

The homemade-style doenjang jjigae [₩7,000] arrived bubbling in a stone pot, and one big spoonful revealed plenty of fresh tofu and vegetables in the savory soybean paste broth. True to its name, it tasted deep and rich, just like a stew mom would make at home.

![Solo bibimbap set received through the receipt review](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch/pyeongtaek-station-gochujang-jumulleok-lunch-21-11l2e-900.webp)

For my Naver Place receipt review reward I picked the solo bibimbap, and it came out as a full single serving! It was generously loaded with brown rice, radish salad, mul-kimchi (watery kimchi), fresh lettuce, seasoned laver flakes, and gochujang. So delicious ><!

## Fried rice after the jumulleok, down to the crispy scorched rice

After finishing the gochujang jumulleok, fried rice was a must. The sauce was seriously delicious! When you order the fried rice, you can add as much roasted seaweed flakes and sesame oil as you like, so I could make it as nutty as I wanted.

You can even get the crispy scorched rice stuck to the griddle~! You don't need to scrape hard with a spoon at all — just gently scrape the crispy bits and you can enjoy the scorched fried rice too.
