## In short

Sangkai Izakaya Bangi Branch is a large izakaya spread over the second and third floors of a building in the Bangi-dong dining alley in Songpa, Seoul. After work the writer ordered flounder sashimi at 48,000 won and seafood okonomiyaki at 19,000 won, alternating between the cold, clean-tasting fish and the warm, salty-savory pancake. Open until 5am, Sangkai works just as well for a first round as for a late second round with friends.

## Where is Sangkai Izakaya Bangi Branch, and what are its hours?

Sangkai Bangi Branch is an izakaya in the Bangi-dong dining alley, occupying the 2nd and 3rd floors of a building at 30 Olympic-ro 32-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul. It's open 16:00–05:00. Parking is available but spots are tight, so using a nearby public parking lot is a better bet.

## Two floors of seating and window seats with an outdoor-bar feel

I was looking for somewhere to grab a drink after work near Jamsil and ended up in the Bangi-dong dining alley. 🍻 I wanted a place where the tables weren't crammed together, somewhere I could eat good food slowly and actually talk — and that's how I found Sangkai Bangi Branch!

Since it uses both the 2nd and 3rd floors, the interior is bigger than I expected — way more spacious, clean, and open than I thought, which I loved.

![Interior view showing the open window seating](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-flounder-sashimi-okonomiyaki/sankai-bangi-flounder-sashimi-okonomiyaki-04-85qb7-966.webp)

The tables are spaced fairly generously, with everything from 2–4 person seats to group seating available. The dim lighting and clean wood tones together give it a cozy overall feel.

The window seats feel open and breezy — kind of like outdoor tented seating (yajang) but more comfortable — and seem to be the most popular. Good for a date, good for a casual drink with friends, and good for bigger gatherings too.

At a bar, the food matters, but so does how comfortably you can sit and talk — and Sangkai does well there thanks to the spacious, open layout. 😊

## Complimentary starter snack and a first beer

The starter was cucumber and pickled radish tossed with octopus(?) in a tangy dressing — great for waking up the appetite. And in this cool autumn weather, you can't skip the beer. Before the main dishes arrived, a beer first 🍻

It's an izakaya with a genuinely wide menu, so I had a hard time deciding — I went with flounder sashimi, since I love it, and since sashimi is on the lighter, cleaner side, I balanced it with something saltier: seafood okonomiyaki (a savory Japanese-style pancake). Highly recommend this combo.

## Flounder sashimi, 48,000 won: thick, springy slices

The flounder sashimi at Sangkai Bangi Branch is ₩48,000 and comes with a bit of rice and aged kimchi so you can make your own hand-pressed sushi. The moment 🐟flounder sashimi🐟 arrived, the first thing that caught my eye was how cleanly it was plated, haha. With rice and kimchi on the side, it could double as a full meal — total bonus!

Unlike thinly sliced sashimi, flounder needs a certain thickness to really deliver its signature chewy texture. Taking a bite, the clean, chewy texture that's characteristic of flounder came through really well.

![Thickly sliced flounder sashimi with soy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-flounder-sashimi-okonomiyaki/sankai-bangi-flounder-sashimi-okonomiyaki-13-18am8-1200.webp)

At first you get the clean flavor of the flounder itself, and adding soy sauce brings out more umami — perfect as a drinking snack. I personally prefer sashimi where you can taste the fish itself rather than something drowned in seasoning, and this flounder sashimi delivered exactly that, easy to eat without feeling heavy. If you want thick, chewy flounder sashimi, order this without a second thought!!!

## Seafood okonomiyaki, 19,000 won: the warm side of the table

The seafood okonomiyaki is ₩19,000, a 🍳 dish piled high with bonito flakes. If the flounder sashimi is cold and clean, the okonomiyaki is warm, salty, and savory — ordering both together made for a genuinely varied combo. 😋

On the hot okonomiyaki, the sauce and mayonnaise blend together, and with bonito flakes piled on top, it looked delicious before I even took a bite. Cutting off a piece with chopsticks, the bottom was crispy while the inside was moist, with seafood bits giving it good texture.

The sweet-salty sauce that's characteristic of okonomiyaki, combined with the richness of the mayonnaise, made for a great drinking food ✨✨ Going back and forth between a bite of flounder sashimi and a piece of okonomiyaki completely shifted the flavor mood each time — great for alternating between the two.

Both dishes were so good I scraped the plates clean. The combo of clean sashimi plus warm, salty-savory okonomiyaki is a solid pairing I'd genuinely recommend 🐟❤️🍳
