## Donggok Jemyeon: where to eat kalguksu in Dongseong-ro, Daegu

Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on the 1st floor of 629 Gukchebosang-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu. I was looking for lunch in Dongseong-ro and had a craving for kalguksu, so I went to Donggok Jemyeon's Daegu Dongseong-ro branch.

I usually like kalguksu anyway, but this place had some menu items that looked special, so I was curious.

### Where to park near Dongseong-ro

For reference, 30 minutes of parking at the Dongseong-ro parking lot is supported. Parking is always a bit of a worry when eating in Dongseong-ro, so having this support makes visiting a little more comfortable.

## Donggok Jemyeon menu and prices

Looking at the menu, they had everything from basic chicken kalguksu to chogye bibim kalguksu and suyuk (boiled pork). As befits a kalguksu specialist, noodle dishes are the main draw, but each menu item leans in a different flavor direction, so it was easy to pick according to taste.

There's also an event going on where writing a review gets you a free dakmuchim (seasoned chicken salad).

## Side dishes and the spicy kimchi

The side dishes at Donggok Jemyeon weren't a particularly flashy spread, but exactly the combination you need. The kimchi is definitely spicy, but it was genuinely delicious.

Personally, I think if the kimchi is good, the food is already half a success, and here I was won over starting with the kimchi.

On the table were chicken salt, pepper, and regular salt. You can adjust the seasoning little by little to your taste, or dip a bit of chicken salt on the suyuk.

## Ultra-concentrated chicken kalguksu, 13,000 won

The ultra-concentrated chicken kalguksu is ₩13,000, and comes with a whole half chicken. I tried the ultra-concentrated chicken kalguksu first, and true to its name, the broth felt rich and concentrated. It's the kind of style where you really feel the deep flavor of chicken stock — one spoonful of broth and I understood why it's called 'ultra-concentrated.'

*Ultra-concentrated chicken kalguksu - ₩13,000*

Rather than an aggressively salty taste, the deep savory flavor drawn from the chicken is at the center, so it was great to eat warm. The chicken comes in as a whole half bird, too, so it felt pretty filling.

The noodles are also hand-cut fresh every morning, and it really made a difference. Moist, chewy, and soft — my family and I were amazed while eating.

## Chogye bibim kalguksu, 11,000 won, in a large portion

Chogye bibim kalguksu is ₩11,000, and adding a large portion is an extra ₩1,000. Next up was the chogye bibim kalguksu. It's a completely different style from the ultra-concentrated chicken kalguksu, and I was glad we ordered it too.

![Large portion of Donggok Jemyeon's chogye bibim kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/donggok-jemyeon-daegu-dongseongro-noodle-pork/donggok-jemyeon-daegu-dongseongro-noodle-pork-16-1yk2e-1200.webp)
*Chogye bibim kalguksu - ₩11,000 / large portion add-on - ₩1,000*

The bibim (mixed) kalguksu has a tangy, spicy sauce well tossed into the noodles, giving a flavor that really wakes up your appetite. The chewy kalguksu noodles worked really well as a mixed dish, and the sauce wasn't overly harsh — it was just really delicious.

*Chogye bibim kalguksu - ₩11,000 / large portion add-on - ₩1,000*

Ordering the large portion made it plentiful enough to really enjoy properly. Alternating with the chicken kalguksu broth meant the flavors were different enough that neither got old.

## Gabrisal pork suyuk, 20,900 won a plate

A plate of gabrisal (pork shoulder blade) suyuk is ₩20,900. We ordered a plate of gabrisal suyuk too, and this was also really delicious. The meat comes softly boiled and sliced into easy-to-eat pieces, with a clean yet savory flavor.

*Gabrisal suyuk (one plate) - ₩20,900*

Compared to lean-only suyuk, this had a good amount of fat mixed in, so it wasn't dry and stayed moist.

![Gabrisal suyuk with a good balance of fat](https://img.superchart.com/images/donggok-jemyeon-daegu-dongseongro-noodle-pork/donggok-jemyeon-daegu-dongseongro-noodle-pork-20-1i9k5-900.webp)
*Gabrisal suyuk (one plate) - ₩20,900*

It's delicious just as is, but also good eaten with mumallaengi (dried radish strips) or dipped lightly in the salt or chicken salt on the table. Everyone was really satisfied with Donggok Jemyeon. We'll probably go again.
