On a return visit with her child and her parents, the writer ordered the Italy Six-Ingredient Shabu Kalguksu for 4 with clear broth, a full course running from beef chuck and the vegetable-and-mushroom platter through handmade dumplings, potato dumplings, house-made kalguksu noodles, egg and vegetable porridge and ice cream. I had a great time here once before with my child, so this time I brought my parents along too. Why Italy, I wondered — did the owner study in Italy? Turns out it's actually the owner's daughter's name, haha! On top of that they gave us baby dishware, rice, and gim, which made eating with my child so much easier. When you're out with a kid it can be awkward feeding them only adult dishes, so having rice and gim ready put my mind at ease. It comes already poured in, so you don't have to add it yourself, which was convenient haha. Eating meat and vegetables together felt light but still filling. I wanted to pack it up and take it home haha! Noodles made in-house, no preservatives — how great is that? This is when you understand why it's called Italy Shabu 'Kalguksu.' The flow from shabu-shabu to kalguksu to porridge really makes you feel like you've had a proper full meal. There's a terrace too, which makes it really nice to bring your dog along~ There's a bit of a special story behind Italy Shabu Kalguksu too — it started from the owner's determination to one day carry on the dream he watched his mother pursue running a kalguksu shop 50 years ago, and for this last challenge, he put his daughter's name on it. That warmed my heart. Maybe that's why the owner's mindset — treating ingredients and care as essential even for a single meal — really came through in the food. I've never seen a shabu-shabu restaurant put this much care into it before~ ## Is Italy Shabu Kalguksu worth it for a family meal in Sejong? On this repeat visit, we again ate our fill of the Italy Six-Ingredient Shabu Kalguksu — starting with meat, vegetables and mushrooms, moving through handmade dumplings and potato dumplings, kalguksu and egg vegetable porridge, and finishing with ice cream — a truly complete course. Most of all, I was touched that they took care to provide baby dishware, rice and gim when we visited with our child.
