## In short

Jeongyukdo is a hanwoo and hanpork Korean BBQ restaurant near Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul, with an outdoor patio-style seating area. The writer ordered ₩22,000 hanwoo beef tartare, two servings of grilled pork neck, and a puffed-up earthenware egg custard, finishing with a review-event water naengmyeon. Jeongyukdo is a great pick near Hongdae for patio-style grilling, and its private rooms make it good for group gatherings too.

There's also a hanpork special cuts menu. The meals and side dishes range from crispy rice soup and hanwoo napa cabbage hangover soup to egg custard.

## Side dishes and sauces

![Jeongyukdo's side dishes served on a wooden tray](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-14-j3ivo-900.webp)

The side dishes came out neatly arranged on a tray. It was a tidy, basic spread with bowls and small dishes set cleanly on a wooden tray. The green onion salad, pickles, salted seafood, and julienned radish were exactly the right combination to go with meat. The julienned green onion in the bowl was thinly sliced so the seasoning soaked in evenly instead of sitting on top. The pickles and salted chili were just the right size to put on top of a piece of meat.

Whole grain mustard, wasabi, and salt were also set out.

Our order was ₩22,000 hanwoo beef tartare, egg custard, and two servings of pork neck.

## Hanwoo beef tartare, ₩22,000

![Hanwoo beef tartare served with julienned pear and egg yolk](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-15-1npmx-900.webp)

Here comes the beef tartare!! Thinly sliced pear and an egg yolk were served separately on the side. The radish sprouts on top added nice color contrast.

![Close-up of thickly sliced hanwoo beef tartare](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-16-1q6ys-900.webp)

The tartare meat was cut thick rather than thin, so it had a chewy, springy bite. Breaking the yolk and mixing it in made it soft and rich, and the crisp pear finished things off cleanly.

## Pork neck for two and egg custard

![Pork neck served with king oyster mushrooms and garlic scapes](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-17-cvz5t-900.webp)

It looked like it would have that chewy texture pork neck is known for. It came with big king oyster mushrooms stamped with the Jeongyukdo logo, along with garlic scapes.

![Plate of pork neck with a sticker showing processing date and weight](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-18-hbsct-900.webp)

![Pork neck and king oyster mushrooms on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-19-43zuj-900.webp)

A sticker with the processing date and weight was attached, which was reassuring, and the king oyster mushrooms that came with it were plump and tasty. Pork neck is a cut I like just as much as pork belly.

I think you could basically have one egg custard per person, haha. It puffed up over the rim of the earthenware pot like it was about to burst, and it stayed soft all the way through.

![Egg custard puffed up over the rim of the earthenware pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-20-bah98-900.webp)

![Table spread with egg custard and grilled pork neck](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-21-i3e2t-900.webp)

The crispy grilled exterior and the chewy texture of the pork neck went so well together that I kept reaching for more.

![Three sauces: whole grain mustard, wasabi, and salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-22-kvbnt-900.webp)

Three sauces came with their own individual spoons. Whole grain mustard, wasabi, and salt were each available so you could dip the pork neck according to your taste. I tried it in salt first, then with wasabi, and it was a clean, refreshing way to eat it.

## Finishing with water naengmyeon

Thanks to a review event, we also got to try the water naengmyeon (cold noodles). The broth had a thin layer of ice floating on top, with noodles, cucumber, radish, and egg all in the bowl.

![Water naengmyeon with icy broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard/hapjeong-yajang-pork-jowl-egg-custard-23-11r8x-900.webp)

Finishing off the meat with cool water naengmyeon cleaned up my palate nicely. The broth went down ice-cold, and it paired well with the meat.

## In summary

Jeongyukdo is a great spot near Hongdae when you want that patio-style feel while eating meat. This time we had hanwoo beef tartare, pork neck, and egg custard together, and the texture of the pork neck especially stuck with me. It's also easy to get to since it's close to Hapjeong Station, and with its private room, it looked like a good option for group meals or gatherings too. Next time I'd like to try the hanwoo shoulder tender and skirt steak menu items.
