I was hunting for a good sushi restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan! There are so many good restaurants in Buldang-dong that it's hard to pick, but that day I was craving clean, simple sushi, so I went to Ganghan Sushi — the place everyone recommends when you mention sushi in Buldang.

This time I ordered the Ganghan Sushi 12-piece set and the Ganghan Special Sushi 12-piece set! Both come as 12 pieces, so it was fun trying each one and comparing them.

## How to find Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch

Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch is at 67-12 Buldang21-ro, Unit 111, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, right in the middle of the pedestrian path on the first floor of First Plaza in Buldang-dong. If you're coming from the inner road, walk a little from the corner Ten Percent Coffee toward the main street heading to City Hall, and you'll spot it on your right. If you're coming from the main road, it's in the middle of the pedestrian path between the building with Yonsei Namu Hospital and IBK Bank — look for the projecting sign that says 'sushi.'

This Buldang-dong sushi spot I recommend has no break time and is open every day, so you can drop by whenever you're craving sushi or a good lunch in Buldang-dong. The parking lot was spacious and comfortable — park on basement level 1 or 2, take the elevator up to the first floor, walk through the corridor straight ahead, then turn right and you'll find Ganghan Sushi, the place I always head to when I want sushi in Buldang-dong.

## Inside the restaurant and how the 2-hour parking works

The Ganghan Sushi Cheonan Buldang Branch interior was cute, bright and comfortable. There were both 2-person and 4-person tables. It's also known as a go-to delivery spot for sushi in Buldang-dong, so delivery riders kept coming in and out to pick up orders.

Baby chairs were available so families with young kids can eat comfortably. The restroom passcode and self-parking registration instructions were posted at the entrance. Be sure to register your parking on your way out — you get up to 2 hours free.

The essence of sushi is the shari (vinegared rice). They only use Saechungmu rice milled within the past 2 weeks — this premium variety doesn't fall apart easily and has good elasticity, making it ideal for sushi rice, while still giving that pleasant, loosening texture in your mouth. That's exactly why the rice at Ganghan Sushi felt so alive.

## Ganghan Sushi 12P (₩14,000): what comes on the plate

The first thing we ordered was the Ganghan Sushi 12P (₩14,000). With 12 pieces arriving at once, it looked delicious just visually. There's real fun in tasting each type one by one and comparing flavors, so ordering a multi-piece set is definitely the way to go. Piece by piece, before you know it the plate's empty — magic, haha. If you love sushi, I think this set is a solid, easy-to-enjoy option.

I usually prefer white fish sushi over salmon because I'm not a fan of the mushy texture of salmon flesh — or so I thought. But the salmon sushi at Ganghan Sushi, the number one sushi spot in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, wasn't mushy at all — it was clean-tasting while still delivering the firmness of fresh sashimi, even a bit of chewiness. It wasn't like any salmon sushi I'd had before.

At Ganghan Sushi, the place that comes to mind for sushi in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, all of this comes down to their low-temperature aging method that maximizes inosinic acid at just the right aging time — the flounder becomes firm and chewy, the salmon's savory depth deepens, and the tuna's characteristic tang and softness come through, giving you high-quality sushi.

## What makes the Ganghan Special Sushi 12P (₩17,000) different?

We also ordered the Ganghan Special Sushi 12P (₩17,000) together. Ordering the regular Ganghan Sushi and the special version side by side let us really feel the difference between the two menus. The special set is a good choice when you want to enjoy a slightly wider variety of sushi.

Rather than ordering just one menu like I did, I'd also recommend ordering both the Ganghan Sushi and the Ganghan Special Sushi and sharing them. If two of you visit, ordering one each is a great approach!!

Alongside the deep umami that only aged sashimi can deliver, the sushi sauce and house-made sauces stood out too — they use nikiri soy sauce, boiled and aged in-house, to bring out the fish's flavor even more.

## The free udon, miso soup and croquette with every set

The udon noodles served alongside were nice and springy, with the bonito flake broth bursting with umami, and miso soup was included too — this place really has strong competitiveness as a sushi restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan.

The croquette that comes as a standard side — I thought it would just be a potato croquette, but it turned out to be a high-quality reproduction of the croquette flavor I had in Japan. The seafood, meat and vegetable flavors all blended together really well for a quite upscale taste.

These days I think the balance between rice and fish matters a lot for sushi. Too much rice buries the fish's flavor, but too much emphasis on the fish loses that harmonious sushi taste. Ganghan Sushi overall leans toward a clean, easy-to-eat style, making it a solid choice whenever sushi comes to mind in Buldang-dong.
