## In short

Yes Susan is a seafood shop at unit 124 on the first floor of Sokcho Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, specialising in red snow crab lunchboxes to go. A two-crab red snow crab lunchbox and flying fish roe crab fried rice were packed in an insulated bag and eaten back at the accommodation, where the pre-picked crab meat slid cleanly out of the legs and paired well with the rich crab-shell fried rice. For a Sokcho trip, Yes Susan makes an easy spread of drinking snacks without leaving your room.

Whenever I travel to Sokcho, I end up packing all kinds of food from Sokcho Jungang Market (속초중앙시장). This time I had a craving for Sokcho red snow crab. I picked up a pre-prepped red snow crab lunchbox and flying fish roe crab fried rice from Yes Susan. With the easy-to-eat crab lunchbox plus fried rice on the side, it made a pretty solid meal during my Sokcho trip~

## Where is Yes Susan inside Sokcho Jungang Market?

Yes Susan is on the 1st floor, unit 124, of Sokcho Jungang Market. It's close to the entrance near the large outdoor parking lot. This is a spot where you can grab ready-to-eat items like the red snow crab lunchbox to take away.

A Sokcho trip always starts at Sokcho Jungang Market haha. The market brings together everything from East Sea seafood to dakgangjeong (crispy fried chicken) and squid sundae (stuffed squid sausage), so it's a great place to stop by while traveling in Sokcho. They also sell seafood, salted fermented seafood (jeotgal), and live fish for sashimi.

I suddenly got a craving for red snow crab, so I decided to pack it and eat comfortably back at the hotel.

The signature items at Yes Susan are the red snow crab lunchbox and the flying fish roe crab fried rice. The red snow crab lunchbox lets you pack several crabs at once, and I went with the 2-crab version.

The snow crabs and king crabs in the tank look really fresh, right? Seeing them still alive and moving really made the Sokcho trip feel real haha. Since it's a steamed red snow crab lunchbox made from live crab, the meat yield was full and it tasted sweet and delicious. I figured just crab alone might feel a little lacking, so I also packed the flying fish roe crab fried rice. Apparently, depending on the season, they sometimes offer a king crab lunchbox too. When you pack it to go, they put everything in an insulated cooler bag, so it was easy to carry back to the hotel.

## Opening the red snow crab lunchbox back at the room: how well is the crab picked?

Back at the hotel, I opened the red snow crab lunchbox first. Since the crab was already prepped, it was really convenient. If I'd steamed crab myself at the market and packed it whole, I would've had to pick it apart piece by piece, and the smell in the hotel room would've been rough...

The meat was already picked into easy-to-eat pieces, which was great since I could dig in right away. The leg meat pulled right out, making it perfect as a drinking snack. The crab meat was pretty full, so every leg I picked had a good chunk of meat come out. The lunchbox was reasonably priced and generously portioned, so I think I'd order it again on my next Sokcho trip.

If you want to eat Sokcho red snow crab but find prepping it yourself a hassle, the Yes Susan red snow crab lunchbox is a total recommendation! It was fresh enough that even the crab shell innards weren't fishy at all.

## How does the flying fish roe crab fried rice taste with the red snow crab?

The flying fish roe crab fried rice I ordered alongside the crab lunchbox came in a pretty generous portion of rice.

The fried rice was on the moist side, with a pretty strong crab shell flavor, so it paired really well with the red snow crab. The seasoning wasn't too strong either, so it never felt overwhelming. Eating the fried rice alongside the crab made for a much heartier drinking snack.

It's a great dish to pair with when you're craving carbs after eating sashimi or seafood on a Sokcho trip. It also works well to save some crab meat and mix it into the fried rice — give it a try haha. If you want to eat red snow crab from Sokcho Jungang Market but would rather enjoy it comfortably back at the hotel instead of at a restaurant, this kind of crab lunchbox takeout option is a solid choice.

On this Sokcho trip, I packed a red snow crab lunchbox from Yes Susan at Sokcho Jungang Market. The crab was already prepped, so it was easy to eat, and with a high meat yield plus the fried rice on the side, it made for a satisfying drinking snack. If you want to enjoy Sokcho red snow crab comfortably, packing a crab lunchbox to go is worth trying.
