## In short

Jin Seiromushi is a Korean restaurant in Joyang-dong, Sokcho, where I ordered marinated red snow crab and marinated shrimp set meals. The many side dishes, grilled fish, doenjang-jjigae, and pot-cooked rice made it filling; I personally preferred the springy shrimp to the crab.

While traveling in Sokcho, I stopped by Jin Seiromushi (진 세이로무시) in Joyang-dong because I wanted a Korean meal with side dishes and rice. I ordered the marinated red snow crab set meal and marinated shrimp set meal, both served with a variety of side dishes and pot-cooked rice.

## What were the parking and dining space like?

The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the large standalone building.

There were outdoor tables as well. I thought they would be nice to use on a cool day without rain.

There was free dedicated parking in front of the restaurant, as well as parking behind the building, so I went in without worrying about parking that day.

Before going in, I saw the outdoor fish tank, which looked clean and well maintained. According to the restaurant, live red snow crabs are supplied from fishing boats and kept in the tank, and they prepare small batches of jang (soy sauce marinade) each day based on how much is used.

Inside, there was a chandelier and a checkerboard-patterned floor. The tables were well spaced and separated by glass partitions, so I thought it would be a comfortable place to dine with a partner, parents, or acquaintances.

## How much were the set meals?

The marinated red snow crab set meal I ordered was ₩23,000, and the marinated shrimp set meal was ₩25,000. The prices and information below are from when the original post was written.

I also checked the country-of-origin information.

## What side dishes came with the set meals?

The side dishes arrived one after another while I waited. I counted 18 at first, then three more came out. I was told that the side dishes are made in-house every morning.

There were side dishes that went well with rice, such as japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), jeon (pan-fried savory pancakes), bracken fern, seasoned bellflower root, and stir-fried mushrooms.

Grilled fish, sweet-and-spicy jeyuk-bokkeum (stir-fried pork), and doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) with tofu also came as standard. To my taste, the side dishes were not overly seasoned and had a clean flavor. Even before the mains arrived, I felt I could have eaten a whole bowl of rice with the side dishes alone.

The rice came in a pot. I served the rice first, then prepared to turn the scorched rice left in the pot into sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). There was so much food that I wondered whether I could finish it all.

## How did the marinated crab and shrimp differ?

The marinated red snow crab and shrimp arrived on a large plate. The crab shell was topped with roe and egg yolk.

I was concerned that the soy-marinated dishes might be too salty, but the soy sauce marinade was gently sweet and went well with rice. The restaurant explained that its soy sauce includes various vegetables and has reduced salinity.

The crab meat was plump rather than mushy. When I mixed warm rice into the shell with the roe and yolk, the nutty richness of the yolk stood out more than the slight bitterness of the roe.

I put on plastic gloves to peel and eat the shrimp. The flesh was plump and chewy, infused with a lightly sweet and salty marinade. I did not notice any fishiness, and of the two dishes, I preferred the shrimp.

## How did I finish the pot-cooked rice?

The myeongnan (salted pollock roe) among the side dishes was tasty, so I had more of it. It went well with rice, but I also liked it with the sungnyung I had at the end.

I poured warm water over the scorched rice remaining at the bottom of the pot, let it sit, and finished with sungnyung. Even though I was full, I kept reaching for it with salted pollock roe or vegetable side dishes on top.

Instant coffee was also available in one corner of the restaurant.

## What are the location and hours?
