I met up with a friend at Beomgye Station after a long while. She's the kind of friend who always gives off positive energy no matter when we meet, so to fuel up together with something delicious, we decided today's menu would be hanwoo (Korean beef) bossam (boiled beef).

## Where is Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon, the Beomgye gukbap restaurant?

The place I visited is Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, a gukbap (soup with rice) spot near Beomgye. It's on the basement floor of Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon, so it was easy to swing by right after meeting my friend at Beomgye Station. I'd wanted to go for a while, so I was finally getting to check it out.

We didn't even have to think about it — we went straight for the Hantiok set menu. It's a bit pricier, but the combo of hanwoo bossam, gukbap or noodles, and dumplings was just impossible to pass up 🙂🙂

There's a takeout discount too, so grab that if you can. If I lived closer, I'd want to take some home to go. The gukbap was seriously that good.

## Inside Hantiok Pyeongchon: seating and wait time

The inside of Hantiok Pyeongchon is completely spacious and clean. There seemed to be another similarly sized seating area on the opposite side too. We went early on a weekday and were the first customers in, but by the time we finished eating and left, there were quite a few people waiting. It seemed like this place has already earned its reputation as a Beomgye gukbap restaurant.

## How was the hanwoo shank suyuk (sliced boiled beef)?

The hanwoo bossam I'd wanted to try for so long finally arrived 🙌 The aronsatae (shank cut) hanwoo bossam looked tender, but it was even softer once I tasted it. There was a subtle, rich, savory beef aroma unique to hanwoo. The lean meat was pure moisture! And that chewy texture particular to aronsatae was still there, so the savoriness built the more I chewed. This is exactly the flavor I'd been craving 🙂🙂

What I especially loved was the broth served alongside — deep and rich, yet not heavy at all, with a clean finish! You could really taste the umami of the concentrated stock, but the aftertaste stayed light and refreshing, and eating it with the bossam was oh-so-good. It wasn't overpowering but had real depth of flavor, so my satisfaction with this bossam was at 200 percent.

## The taste of Hantiok's hanwoo ugeoji gukbap

Next up, let's try the piping hot hanwoo ugeoji (dried napa cabbage leaves) gukbap. Even the rice had a glossy sheen — pass. And the stew, bubbling away! Now that the weather's getting colder, this kind of broth definitely hits the spot more.

The hanwoo ugeoji gukbap had a red seasoning added, giving it a properly spicy, fiery kick 🫶🏻 The ugeoji was simmered until soft and blended perfectly with the broth, and the deep beef aroma of the hanwoo had soaked into the soup, making the broth itself rich and deep. This was the flavor of that broth you crave when you think, 'I really want a delicious gukbap!' Honestly, it was the top gukbap I've had recently 😆😆

Even so, the seasoning wasn't too strong or heavy — it was spicy yet finished cleanly, so once I mixed rice into it, my spoon kept going back for more. It was a properly hearty hanwoo gukbap that warmed you up from the inside. Maybe because it was cold out, it was seriously so delicious haha. I'd totally recommend this as a Beomgye gukbap restaurant.

## The dumplings, and clearing the whole Hantiok set between two

Last but not least, we finished off with a full plate of dumplings too. When we first ordered with my friend, I thought it might be too much, but we ended up eating it all. Everything was overall well-seasoned without being too salty, and it was genuinely delicious — absolutely the best!

It had really been a while since every single dish at a restaurant satisfied me. From the spicy, deep hanwoo ugeoji gukbap to the juicy dumplings and the tender yet chewy hanwoo bossam, there wasn't a single dish that fell short 〰️

## Is Hantiok Pyeongchon worth a second visit?

In particular, the rich yet clean broth that came with the bossam kept popping into my head. Even writing this now, I want it again haha. If it were near my house, I'd want to take some to go and freeze it. It seems like a place where whatever you order — gukbap, dumplings, or hanwoo bossam — would be delicious! If you want a hearty, satisfying meal, I highly recommend Hantiok, the Beomgye gukbap restaurant 😆😆 I'd definitely go back whenever I'm in the Anyang area. Next time I'm thinking of taking my mom along, kekeke.
