## In short

Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong is a Japanese-style pot rice and tonkatsu restaurant in the basement of Terra Tower near Munjeong Station in Songpa, Seoul. Visiting on a weekend at noon, the writer ordered eel pot rice as a main with hire katsu (fried pork fillet) and mini rosu katsu (fried pork loin) as side dishes, finishing the leftover rice as ochazuke (tea-poured rice) with eel broth. With small side-dish portions of tonkatsu available, it's a good spot to try pot rice and tonkatsu together in one sitting.

There are entrances at both the front and back of the restaurant, and menu boards are placed outside each door so you can pick what you want before going in.

## Weekend lunch wait and the restaurant's atmosphere

In front of the main entrance there was a waiting board and chairs to sit on while you wait.

I went around noon on a weekend and the inside seats were completely full. The place isn't huge, but it has quite a lot of seating.

I was worried there wouldn't be a spot, but luckily there was space at the bar table, so I sat down right away.

Water and a cup, plus hygienically wrapped spoons and chopsticks, were already set at the table, and you order using the kiosk at each table.

There was a coat hook and hanger rack on one side, which was handy for hanging up outerwear.

On one end of the bar table there was a big container of yogurt you can take with you after your meal, and

next to the drink fridge there was a draft beer machine. If you like beer, this could be a nice place to enjoy a draft beer with your meal.

On the wall were framed explanations of the natural fermented sauces the restaurant uses, like nuruk salt, soy sauce nuruk, and rice nuruk (Korean fermentation starters). People kept coming in the whole time I was eating, so it seems to be a well-known spot near Munjeong Station's Terra Tower.

## Menu and what I ordered

Looking at the menu, there were a lot of pot rice and tonkatsu options.

The pot rice options were eel, abalone, wagyu steak, and mushroom simmered in perilla oil, while the tonkatsu options were hire katsu (fillet cutlet), rosu katsu (loin cutlet), and whole mozzarella cheese katsu. There were also udon, mazeudon, and curry dishes.

I wanted both tonkatsu and pot rice, so after some thought I ordered eel pot rice (₩23,000) as the main and added hire katsu, 2 pieces (₩6,000) and mini rosu katsu (₩5,000) as sides.

They have small-portion side dishes of tonkatsu you can add on, which is great for solo diners or anyone who wants to try a bit of everything. You can check the attached menu board photos for the full menu.

## How to eat the eel pot rice and ochazuke

The tonkatsu sauce along with the hire katsu and mini rosu katsu sides came out first, followed by a thermos of eel broth.

Next came the eel pot rice, topped with glossy, plump eel.

It was served with mentaiko (seasoned pollock roe), wasabi, kimchi, and miso soup, making for a neat, complete spread.

Following the instructions on the paper they gave me, I first tried putting eel on top of the rice and eating it that way — the eel was plump and had a nice chew to it.

The eel sauce wasn't too salty either, so the seasoning was just right.

After eating some of the rice and eel, I transferred the rest into a bowl with seaweed flakes and wasabi, then poured in the eel broth from the thermos to make ochazuke.

The salty broth blended really well with the eel and rice — it was delicious.

## How the hire katsu and mini rosu katsu tasted

The hire katsu and rosu katsu I ordered as sides were crispy on the outside and tender inside, making them perfect to eat alongside the pot rice.

I especially liked the hire katsu, made from pork tenderloin — it was soft and really nice.

![A bite taken out of the tenderloin hire katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gomemui-songpa-munjeong-eel-hotpot-rice/gomemui-songpa-munjeong-eel-hotpot-rice-23-1vp1s-900.webp)

I took a bite and the juices were so moist and delicious. It only comes as 2 pieces, so I demolished it in no time.

The rosu katsu was completely crispy and light, making it a great palate cleanser between bites of the eel pot rice. Even though it's called "mini," the portion was actually pretty generous.

If you're craving a neat Japanese-style pot rice, or want to enjoy pot rice and tonkatsu together, I'd recommend Gome Mui Songpa Munjeong!
