## In short

Tatsu Robatasho is an izakaya bar with an open irori charcoal kitchen about 150m from Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Bar seats were booked through Naver Reservation for the Tatsu Robata assorted sashimi, grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish, charcoal-grilled chicken thigh and grilled rice cake skewers, with two Kirin drafts. Prices are not cheap, but watching the charcoal grilling up close made for a great atmosphere, and the grilled rice cake skewers are worth ordering again.

This is Dundundan. I had something to take care of near Sinsa Station and arranged to meet a friend there. While deciding where to have dinner, we decided to grab drinks at an izakaya for a change!

While searching for izakayas near Sinsa Station, I found Tatsu Robatasho, which looked like it had a nice atmosphere. The open kitchen especially caught my eye, so I booked bar seats and went. Here's the review.

## Where is Tatsu Robatasho? A 150m walk from Sinsa Station

![Entrance to Tatsu Robatasho on the 1st floor of Gangnam-daero154-gil](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-02-1orm5-900.webp)

Tatsu Robatasho is located on the 1st floor of 16 Gangnam-daero154-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It's about 150m from Sinsa Station, close enough to walk from the station.

It was a good spot for meeting up and having dinner near Sinsa Station. (Also convenient if you're meeting up as a group!)

## Tatsu Robatasho opening hours and last order

![Tatsu Robatasho business hours sign](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-03-1ylyn-900.webp)

Tatsu Robatasho is open weekdays from 5pm to midnight, and weekends from 4:30pm to midnight. The weekend opening time is about 30 minutes earlier than weekdays. Last order is confirmed at 11pm.

## Booking Tatsu Robatasho: reserve the bar seats ahead

Reservations can be made through Naver Reservation and Catch Table. I booked through Naver Reservation this time.

I especially wanted to sit at the bar seats right in front of the open kitchen, so I booked in advance. (If you're going anyway, you gotta sit here haha.)

## Inside Tatsu Robatasho and the irori open charcoal kitchen

![Dimly lit interior of Tatsu Robatasho](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-04-19rk3-900.webp)

The interior lighting was pretty dim overall, which gave it a calmer, more atmospheric feel.

![Table seating good for two at Tatsu Robatasho](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-05-n6m3x-900.webp)

It looked like a good spot for a blind date or a date, and it was also nice for sitting with a friend and chatting.

![Irori-style open kitchen and bar seats](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-06-1ld55-900.webp)

And what caught my eye the most at Tatsu Robatasho was the open kitchen! It's an irori-style open kitchen, so you can watch the food being made right in front of you.

We deliberately booked bar seats right in front of the open kitchen. Sitting there, we could see ingredients being grilled over charcoal and the flames rising, so waiting for food wasn't boring at all. (There's actually something fun about watching this.)

## Tatsu Robatasho menu and what we ordered

![Menu board listing sashimi and robatayaki](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-07-1y5fi-m-900.webp)

True to an izakaya, the menu has everything from sashimi to charcoal robatayaki, nabe, and fried dishes. There's also a dessert menu, so it looked like a good spot for a second round after a meal too.

This is what we ordered.

- Tatsu Robata assorted sashimi
- Grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish
- Charcoal-grilled chicken thigh
- Grilled rice cake skewers
- 2 Kirin drafts

The grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish is priced based on that day's market rate and size, so it's a good idea to check the price before ordering.

## Table setting and Kirin draft beer at Tatsu Robatasho

![Basic setting of pickled radish, ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-08-yaok8-900.webp)

Since we ordered sashimi, they gave us pickled radish, ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce as a basic setting.

![Kirin draft beer on the bar table](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-09-114zf-900.webp)

And the Kirin draft arrived too. (Beer first, of course~) Taking a cold sip, we watched our geumtae fish and grilled rice cake being cooked over charcoal. Watching them grill right in front of us made the wait fun too. (Definitely glad we sat at the open kitchen seats haha, though it got a bit warm haha.)

### Tatsu Robata assorted sashimi platter

![A plate of Tatsu Robata assorted sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-10-fcuos-900.webp)

First up was the Tatsu Robata assorted sashimi. It came with tuna, salmon, abalone, sweet shrimp, and more.

![Plating of tuna, salmon, abalone, and sweet shrimp sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-11-bc0lu-900.webp)

The plating was clean, so I took photos first. (They say food that looks good tastes good too...)

Maybe because it was aged sashimi, the texture was soft overall. It melted in the mouth, which went great with beer. There was a nice variety, so it was good for the two of us to share bites.

### Grilled rice cake skewers: the best dish of the night

![Grilled rice cake skewers topped with pecans](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-12-77116-900.webp)

Next came the grilled rice cake skewers. Whole garaetteok (cylindrical rice cake) grilled over charcoal, topped with a sweet sauce and pecans.

![Cross-section of charcoal-grilled rice cake with sweet sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-13-1s5hy-900.webp)

I love rice cake and I love pecans, so this combo really worked for me. The outside was charcoal-grilled, giving it a slightly chewy texture, and with the sweet sauce and pecans on top it went perfectly with beer. Personally, out of everything we ate that day, this is the dish I'd order again next time. (This is exactly the drinking snack you want.)

### Grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish and the fire show

![Grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish served with a fire show](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-14-j5tmv-900.webp)

Next came the grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish. Since geumtae pricing varies by size and date, I'd recommend checking the price before ordering.

They also put on a dramatic fire show when serving it. Watching it right in front of us, it was more of a spectacle than I expected.

![Inside of charcoal-grilled Tongyeong geumtae fish](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-15-18ao9-900.webp)

Because it was grilled over charcoal, the outside had a subtle smoky aroma and the inside was moist. However, the portion of geumtae itself wasn't very large. So it felt more suited as a drinking snack than a main dish.

### Charcoal-grilled chicken thigh at Tatsu Robatasho

![Charcoal-grilled chicken thigh topped with shredded green onion](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-16-75kcq-900.webp)

The last thing we ordered was the charcoal-grilled chicken thigh. I'll admit I was expecting something like chicken skewers, but what arrived was bite-sized chicken thigh grilled over charcoal, topped with shredded green onion and served with mayo sauce.

![Dipping charcoal-grilled chicken thigh in mayo sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-17-1me6k-900.webp)

The moist chicken thigh went well with the shredded green onion, and dipping it in the mayo sauce was good too. There was a subtle smoky aroma that paired nicely with beer. (Perfect as the last snack of the night...)

## Is Tatsu Robatasho worth it for drinks near Sinsa Station?

![Bar seats facing the open kitchen](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-18-1ukfn-900.webp)

This was a great izakaya near Sinsa Station for enjoying drinks with atmosphere. Sitting at the bar seats right in front of the open kitchen was especially nice since we could watch the cooking happen.

![Table spread with sashimi and charcoal-grilled dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-19-letzq-900.webp)

The menu ranges widely from sashimi to charcoal grills, so it was good for ordering a variety of dishes to share. That said, it's not a cheap izakaya. (Well, you're paying for the atmosphere.)

Still, if you want somewhere with a good atmosphere for drinks near Sinsa, I think it's worth visiting at least once. It's good for a date, and also good for quietly chatting and drinking with a friend.

![An atmospheric drinking session at Tatsu Robatasho](https://img.superchart.com/images/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake/tatsu-robatasho-sinsa-izakaya-grilled-rice-cake-21-pgq4t-900.webp)

I especially loved the grilled rice cake, so I think I'll order it again if I visit next time. If you're looking for an izakaya near Sinsa Station, I recommend Tatsu Robatasho!
