Hi, it's Ice. Korean weather these days is genuinely unbelievable... summer heat that hit 42 degrees, apparently the hottest in over a hundred years. I'm dying haha.

On days like this, dates have to be indoors, right? Try anything outside and you're guaranteed a fight lol haha. Still wanting some date-night atmosphere despite the killer heat, I visited Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch, an izakaya in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, today.

## Where is Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch? 9 minutes on foot from Yeongdeungpo Station

It's a 9-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo Station. Not right in front of the station, but definitely walkable! I walked from Yeongdeungpo Station, while my boyfriend walked from Yeongdeungpo Market Station. A triple-station location haha.

### What Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch looks like from the street

![Exterior of Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki-01-vvooh-966.webp)

The street around Yeongdeungpo Station isn't exactly stylish overall, right? But as you walk along, this clean, sleek-looking Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch just appears. It has that antique vibe young people love.

![Menu board placed outside the shop](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki-02-1nc1w-966.webp)

Outside there's a menu board listing everything. Overall it was an izakaya full of Japanese-style dishes. As a couple who loves skewers, there was no way we could walk past this place...

## Inside Nani Byeolgwan: lighting, bar seats and bag baskets

![Bar-style seating and open kitchen near the entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki-03-1jiv0-735.webp)

At the entrance of Nani Byeolgwan there are about 10 bar-style seats, as shown in the photo. It's enclosed on all sides so you can watch the staff cooking right in front of you. I'm pretty sensitive about hygiene, so an open kitchen made me feel more at ease eating there! I went further in and sat at a table, but it was so crowded I couldn't get a photo, sorry.

Cozy, low indirect lighting. The interior was darker than I expected.

They had all sorts of liquor bottles displayed along the wall. Looking closely, a lot of the bottles were actually full. My guess is they're the ones used for making highballs (just my theory).

Even the plates match the bar vibe so cutely haha.

The owner has great taste — every chair has a little basket attached like this. We've all had that experience of nowhere to put a bag at a two-person table in a bar, right? I had a big bag with me and it fit right in there. Not having to set it on the floor was such a relief haha.

## Nani Byeolgwan menu and how QR ordering works

![Bag basket attached to a chair](https://img.superchart.com/images/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki/yeongdeungpo-izakaya-daechang-skewer-beef-tataki-08-15pvi-966.webp)

You can check the menu through the QR code posted on the wall. At first I thought you could also order through it and spent a while searching, but that wasn't the case. You just check the menu via QR and call the owner over to actually order.

The menu was varied: skewers/fried items, seafood/noodles, and side dishes. From the izakaya's signature chicken skewers, sake-steamed clams, grilled mentaiko (pollock roe), and salmon sashimi, to easy snacking items like semi-dried moist squid, scallion cream cheese & crackers, and even a special item unique to Nani Byeolgwan Yeongdeungpo Branch — shin ramyun risotto!

What I ordered here was:

- Chicken skewers ₩15,000
- Beef intestine skewers ₩12,000
- Beef tataki ₩29,000

There was also a wide variety of alcohol. Fitting for an izakaya, it was mostly sake, and it was the most diverse selection I've seen at a bar recently. I've been cutting back on drinking lately though, so I passed on the alcohol haha.

## Chicken skewers, 15,000 won: about 3,000 won a piece

The chicken skewers came out first! The meat itself was substantial and thick. It came with 5 pieces, about ₩3,000 each, and each one had a generous portion, so the value was pretty good haha. It's even tastier dipped in the mayo sauce that comes with it.

## Beef intestine skewers, 12,000 won: the couple's favorite

Our favorite as a couple was the beef intestine skewers... My boyfriend really loves beef intestine. The owner said it's best eaten right away, so we took a bite as soon as it arrived, and the juices burst out, savory and clean-tasting. Personally, I felt like I could come back just for this. At about ₩4,000 per piece it was a bit pricier than the regular chicken skewers, but it was totally our taste...

## Beef tataki, 29,000 won: a dab of wasabi on each slice

Last to arrive was the beef tataki! Each slice had a little dab of wasabi on top, which was so cute lol haha. The owner's attention to detail. Dipped into the special soy-based sauce along with the onions that came with it, you get a rush of the meat's juiciness. A healthy, clean flavor!

Personally, the beef intestine skewers here were so good for me. I have to eat this again...
