A large outdoor bakery café in Goyang, a great drive-out course near Seoul: Baedagol Bakery House.

## A half-day off and a drive from Seoul out to Goyang

A slump. I've hit a slump with work. My legs keep fidgeting and I can barely sit still at my desk. I told myself it was just the nicer weather kicking in. What gets me through slumps like this? Vacation days and half-days off!

Today's story: I took a half-day off and drove out to Baedagol Bakery House, a large outdoor bakery café in Goyang, just outside Seoul.

## Hydrangeas and autumn flowers in Baedagol's outdoor garden

The moment I arrived at Baedagol Bakery House in Goyang, I was greeted by hydrangeas and autumn flowers blooming in the outdoor garden. A lush green garden café, easy on eyes tired from staring at computer and phone screens all day.

It's just a short trip outside Seoul, and yet you get to come to such a pretty, relaxed, large outdoor café. :) On weather like this, sitting in the garden with a coffee and dessert and just letting time pass slowly is pure happiness.

## Where to sit at Baedagol: first-floor windows or a second-floor room

Baedagol Bakery House in Goyang has an outdoor garden, a first floor, a second floor, and an outdoor rooftop terrace — this is the first floor. It has windows on three sides, so you get a view of the lush green garden trees, and even on a weekday afternoon it was genuinely packed.

It has a nature-friendly vibe that moms and dads, or parents in general, would especially love, and indeed most of the guests looked like they were around my parents' age. It's a café younger people would like too, but since I went on a weekday, it seemed mostly like parent-generation friend groups hanging out, and I was by far the youngest one there. Haha. A weekday half-day off is such a treasure, seriously. Haha.

This is the second floor of Baedagol Bakery House, and I liked that it was quieter than the first floor. The second floor also has that lovely green garden view.

There are also private rooms, which looked great for a date. And if you're going solo like me, it also seemed like a good spot to bring a laptop and work. I liked the second-floor rooms, so I settled into one with a window.

## Baedagol's bread case and the seasonal fig cakes

When I arrived at Baedagol Bakery House, thankfully the bread case was fully stocked.

The bread lineup was genuinely great — good for dessert, but also solid enough for a meal, so it seems like a nice place to come for weekend brunch too. I also liked that the bread case wasn't open-air, which felt more hygienic.

There were plenty of delicious-looking cakes too, and since it's fig season, there were various fig cake desserts on offer. If you love figs, head to Baedagol Bakery House before the season ends.

## What I ordered: an iced Americano and four breads

The drink menu had coffee, non-coffee options, and some gorgeous-looking drinks topped with fresh melon. I almost went for the sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) with dried persimmon floating in it, but ended up ordering a nutty iced Americano instead.

At Baedagol Bakery House, leftover bread can be self-packed at the packing station, so even going solo, I ended up ordering a huge stack of bread.

Red bean bread.

Heungguk pumpkin bread.

Every bread I picked was hearty enough to count as a meal, and the portions were huge. For how generous the sizes were, the prices felt very reasonable.

The iced Americano was really nutty and delicious too.

## How did the pumpkin rice bread and cheese brioche taste?

I'd originally planned to pack everything to go except the fig campagne. But then every single bread I'd chosen looked too good to resist.

![Plate of bread cut into small tasting pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/goyang-drive-bakery-cafe-half-day/goyang-drive-bakery-cafe-half-day-23-1l2gx-900.webp)

So I cut off small pieces to taste each one. :)

The sweet dried figs paired beautifully with the light, nutty campagne — great flavor balance, and the texture wasn't hard or chewy in a bad way, just really nice.

![Sliced cross-sections of fig campagne and pumpkin bread](https://img.superchart.com/images/goyang-drive-bakery-cafe-half-day/goyang-drive-bakery-cafe-half-day-24-mzl8b-900.webp)

The Heungguk pumpkin rice bread was incredibly chewy, and somehow, for a loaf of bread, the flavor was surprisingly complex and vibrant. It tasted as colorful as it looked, delicious even on its own.

Red bean bread packed with generous filling and a whole chestnut tucked inside! The red beans seemed to be good quality and the chestnut wasn't overly sweet, so it's the kind of bread anyone who likes red bean would enjoy — really no reason to dislike it. I love both red bean and chestnut, so I devoured this one happily.

The cheese brioche was fluffy yet also a bit chewy, an interesting texture — the kind of bread you can't stop eating once you start.

## A weekday afternoon alone with a journal open

Delicious coffee, delicious bread. A leisurely weekday afternoon in a café with great atmosphere.

I'd brought a book meaning to read, but that day I ended up writing in my journal instead, for the first time in a while. These days I really need a journal. It's the only thing I can pour my heart out to.

A peaceful stretch of time at Baedagol Bakery House, a Goyang café with such great atmosphere. The coffee and bread were both genuinely delicious, and the nature-friendly space felt healing too — I really had a wonderful time. Since it's a Goyang café close to Seoul, it's perfect for a weekend drive too, so I'll come back again when the weather's nice. Truly a happy time. :)
