## In short

Gyodong Jjamppong Yongjeong Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Yongjeong-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju. For lunch and a hangover cure, the order was tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), jjamppong-bap (spicy seafood soup with rice) and fried rice, and the jjamppong-bap came with a few noodles in the bowl, so noodles and rice arrived together. For anyone after hot, spicy broth in Cheongju, Gyodong Jjamppong Yongjeong Branch is a dependable choice.

## Lunch at Gyodong Jjamppong in Yongjeong-dong, Cheongju

Gyodong Jjamppong Yongjeong Branch is a Chinese restaurant at 44 Yeonguncheon-ro 133beon-gil, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, open 10:30–19:50. I was out and about in Cheongju and went for jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) for lunch, partly to cure a hangover. So here it is — Gyodong Jjamppong!

Gyodong Jjamppong is such a famous chain the name alone sounds familiar haha. I was searching for a Chinese restaurant in Cheongju, craving jjamppong, and found this branch near Yongjeong-dong, so I just walked right in.

### Where to park at Gyodong Jjamppong Yongjeong Branch

You have to park in the alley depending on the situation (about 2–3 spots are available right in front of the restaurant).

Walking inside, the interior had that classic Chinese-restaurant vibe we all picture.

## What we ordered from the Gyodong Jjamppong menu

That day we ordered tangsuyuk, jjamppong-bap, and fried rice haha.

### Tangsuyuk dipped in cabbage sauce

Not long after ordering, the tangsuyuk came out first. Come on, you can't visit a Chinese restaurant and skip tangsuyuk haha. The batter was fried nice and crispy, and dipping it into the cabbage sauce served on the side gave it a savory, sweet-and-sour flavor that worked really well together. So crispy that my chopsticks kept going back for more! I dug into the tangsuyuk enthusiastically even before the jjamppong and fried rice arrived haha.

## Jjamppong-bap: hot broth with noodles and rice in one bowl

Next up was the jjamppong-bap. I debated between noodles or rice, but since the goal that day was to cure a hangover, I went with jjamppong-bap.

![A bowl of jjamppong-bap at Gyodong Jjamppong Yongjeong Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodong-jjamppong-yongjeong-jjamppongbap-lunch/gyodong-jjamppong-yongjeong-jjamppongbap-lunch-07-1tyyr-900.webp)

But even when you order jjamppong-bap, a bit of noodles come mixed in! So I got to taste a bit of noodle too, and then mixed the rice into the broth and dug in haha. Yeah... nothing beats jjamppong for a hangover! Mixing the rice into the hot broth was hearty and satisfying, a great lunch.

### Fried rice, ordered instead of kongguksu (chilled soybean noodles)

My sibling ordered kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup) but they didn't have it, so switched to fried rice! And the fried rice turned out to be surprisingly good. The grains were fried up nice and fluffy, light and tasty with each bite. A Chinese restaurant should at least handle fried rice well, and this place delivered a solidly tasty version haha.
