Yeonsinnae tonkatsu: triple katsu dipped in curry at Katsu Monster

Today I'm introducing Katsu Monster (Yeonsinnae Branch), a place with really good tonkatsu :) I love tonkatsu so much that I have to eat it at least once a month ... 🤍 The tonkatsu I had at Katsu Monster after a long while was so tender, generous in portion and delicious!

What are the hours and menu prices at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch?

Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break from 15:00 to 16:00. Parking is not available ❌

Besides the katsu, there are also other items like cold soba, cold udon, curry rice bowls, curry udon and karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken), just so you know.

What is the triple katsu?

The triple katsu (₩18,000) at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch lets you taste three kinds at once: loin, tenderloin and cheese. I ordered the triple katsu and curry! (If you turn on notifications for the shop on Naver Map, you can get a coupon for the spicy bite-size curry.) The food came out about 15 minutes after I ordered :)

Honestly, before ordering I agonized over whether to get the cheese katsu or something that also lets me eat loin and tenderloin 🥹 But once I tried the triple katsu, I thought, "I'm so glad I ordered this."

I loved being able to eat all three kinds at once! And I was happy that it was served with warm soup and a big pile of my beloved cabbage salad.

1. Cheese katsu: stretchy whole mozzarella

I tried the cheese katsu first, and maybe because it was freshly fried, the cheese stretched and stretched 🧀 It was savory rather than heavy, a whole-mozzarella filling. I enjoyed it so much. It was also bigger than I expected, so my worry that two pieces might not be enough disappeared completely.

2. Rosu katsu (loin): the ratio of lean meat to fat

Second up is the loin! At most other tonkatsu places, I rarely see one with enough fat that you can actually taste it. But Katsu Monster's rosu katsu has a perfect ratio of lean meat to fat, and it was really tasty! The crispy loin katsu was great dipped in the curry sauce and also great dipped in tonkatsu sauce.

3. Hire katsu (tenderloin): soft the moment it hits your mouth

Last is the tenderloin, hire katsu! The tenderloin came in bite-size pieces, and the softness hit me the second it went in my mouth. After one bite I thought, I'm glad I ordered the triple katsu. Compared with the cheese katsu and loin I'd eaten before, it was so much softer, which made it a nice change :)

Is the Hanip aged curry good as a tonkatsu dipping sauce?

The Hanip aged curry (bite-size aged curry) at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is ₩4,000, and I ordered it as a sauce for dipping my tonkatsu. Meat with tonkatsu sauce or tartar sauce is great, but I really love dunking tonkatsu in curry too! So when I saw curry on the menu, I had to order it.

The portion might look small, but as I ate I actually had some left over. The green onion and flakes on top seemed to add depth to the curry, and it felt like tasting Japanese-style curry, so I had fun while eating -)

Dipping meat in curry like this is really, really delicious.

What are the seating and atmosphere like at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch?

The inside of Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is relatively small, with 3 tables for two and about 4 solo-dining seats by the window. Once you sit down, the owner brings cold tea along with tonkatsu sauce, wasabi and salad dressing. Every table has coarse Himalayan salt and cute little bowls for scooping out sauce and salt :)
