## In short

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is an instant tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cake) restaurant on Yongridan-gil, a 2-minute walk from Sinyongsan Station in Yongsan, Seoul. On a second visit, two people ordered the Hyeonseoni combo set (tteokbokki, 3 odeng fish cakes, mini gimbap, assorted fritters, sundae) in mild spice for 26,000 won, and dipping the rice cakes in the self-serve bar's fried batter powder was the standout. Chewy rice cakes and strong value make Hyeonseonine worth another visit.

Today was my second visit to Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch. It was so good last time that I came back, and it didn't disappoint again today. Let's get into the review!

## Where is Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch, and what are its hours?

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a 2-minute walk from Sinyongsan Station, and it's open 11:00–24:00 (last order 22:40). Break time is Mondays only, 14:30–16:00, and there are no closed days!

The sign is red, so it's fairly easy to spot from a distance. More than that, there's a really tall chimney, which makes it super easy to find!

## Inside Hyeonseonine at noon: full house and seating

Inside, Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is spacious, with the typical vibe of a tteokbokki restaurant. Maybe because I came at noon, there were tons of customers!

The tables were spaced out reasonably well, so it was fine for conversation. There were window seats for solo diners, as well as plenty of 4-person tables for groups. Customers filled every corner so I couldn't really get a good photo of the interior, but I noticed old photos on the wall near the kitchen — seems like Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki has a long history!

### Hyeonseonine's self-serve bar even has fried batter powder

Water is self-serve! And there's info about free Wi-Fi next to the water dispenser, so feel free to use it. I couldn't get a photo, but the aprons are right next to the water dispenser too — please use them freely.

The self-serve bar has pickled radish, fried batter powder, soy sauce, and salt! You don't usually see fried batter powder at other places, so it felt like a nice, unique touch of Hyeonseonine's!

## Hyeonseonine menu, prices and the review event

The menu board is posted prominently near the entrance. Among the set menus, there's even a Hyeonseoni Beer Set — seems like a set menu made for beer lovers!

If you're eating alone, ordering an à la carte item without much pressure seems like the way to go. Besides tteokbokki, I also saw ramyeon, cheese ramyeon, and spicy ramyeon, like at a regular bunsik (Korean snack food) place!

And there was a review event too! It takes less than 2 minutes and gets you a cool slushie or a tteokbokki size-up — seemed like a really good deal!

## How mild is the Hyeonseoni combo set on mild spice?

I ordered the Hyeonseoni combo set, which comes with tteokbokki, 3 odeng (fish cake), mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll), assorted fritters, and sundae (Korean blood sausage)! It didn't take long for the food to arrive, but before it came, I set the table neatly!

Here are the food photos!

For the tteokbokki, I ordered mild spice. It wasn't spicy at all! So next time I'm going to order medium spice haha. If you're planning to go with kids, I'd recommend the mild spice!

And as you can see below, coating the tteokbokki in the fried batter powder gives it a whole different flavor, which I really loved! It's so chewy, I highly recommend it.

### Odeng fish cakes and mini gimbap in the combo set

The odeng came out as 3 pieces with broth! There's soy sauce at the self-serve bar, so pair it with that.

Below is the mini gimbap. The filling is generous. And it's delicious!

### Assorted fritters and sundae at Hyeonseonine

Below is the assorted fritter plate. There's sweet potato, vegetable, mandu (dumpling), gimmari (seaweed roll), and squid. Personally, gimmari is my favorite, and eating it with the tteokbokki broth was so good.

And last is the sundae! It comes with liver and sundae in a good ratio, and it was so tasty. I like salty flavors, so I grabbed some salt from the self-serve bar and dipped it in!

## Verdict: is 26,000 won for two good value at Hyeonseonine?

The Hyeonseoni combo set I ate was both delicious and a great deal. My friend and I went together and ate a 26,000 won meal that left us completely stuffed!

In particular, the seriously chewy tteokbokki left a strong impression, and I plan to come back again. I'd highly recommend this to anyone on a weekend date in Yongsan looking for a Yongridan-gil restaurant, or to office workers looking for a Yongsan tteokbokki spot on a weekday.
