## In short

Nokdo Susan is a live and half-dried fish shop with 40 years and two generations behind it, on the first floor of Daecheonhang Fish Market in Boryeong, directly across from the mud mart. Two wild flounder and one rockfish, 1.4kg in total and enough for two people, were packed to go for 55,000 won and eaten at Daecheon Beach, a 7-8 minute drive away, as the sun set. The flounder was chewy and the rockfish springy, and with a free serving of sea squirt thrown in, this was the most memorable hour of the whole Boryeong trip.

I wanted fresh sashimi during my Boryeong trip, so I went looking for a good sashimi restaurant at Daecheonhang. The lively Daecheonhang Fish Market was full of fresh, varied seafood to browse and taste — such a satisfying experience! Today I'm writing up my review of Nokdo Susan, which I'd recommend if you're wondering where to eat sashimi and seafood in Boryeong.

## Where Nokdo Susan is and what you need to know

Nokdo Susan is a sashimi shop at stalls 57-58 on the first floor of Daecheonhang Fish Market, 334 Daecheonhang-ro, Boryeong, Chungnam. The fish market sits right in front of Daecheonhang port, where you can see and buy fresh seasonal seafood like blue crab, prawns, and live-fish sashimi — well worth adding to a Boryeong trip itinerary.

It's a permanent market split across two floors. The first floor sells live fish, shellfish, crustaceans, and dried seafood, while the second floor has a food court where you can eat sashimi or seafood dishes. The parking lot has over 100 spaces and is free.

I came to Daecheonhang Fish Market to get sashimi to take away, and picked Nokdo Susan, which had great reviews as a sashimi restaurant in Boryeong. It's right at the entrance across from the mud mart, so it's easy to find if you look for the mud mart first. It's also handy to pack your sashimi and then go grocery shopping at the mart right after!

I visited stalls 57-58, Nokdo Susan, soaking up the lively fish market atmosphere. Nokdo Susan is a second-generation shop with a 40-year history specializing in half-dried fish and seasonal seafood.

## The fish tanks and what the owner recommended

Nokdo Susan's tanks held a variety of live fish — flounder, rockfish, sea bream, sea bass, yellowtail, rock bream, gizzard shad — plus seasonal shellfish and crustaceans like shrimp, king crab, snow crab, blue crab, sea squirt, hard clam, abalone, conch, and scallops. When I visit a fish market or sashimi restaurant, I really pay attention to how clean the tanks are. At Nokdo Susan, the tanks were clearly well-maintained at a glance, which gave me more confidence. Seeing that level of care made it easy to browse the seafood with peace of mind.

When I told the owner I wanted an assorted sashimi platter, he recommended flounder and rockfish. He then asked how many people would be eating and whether we usually enjoy sashimi, before catching two natural flounder and one rockfish right there on the spot. Watching the lively, flopping fish was fun in itself! We ordered a good amount for two people — 1.4kg total of flounder and rockfish — packed to go for ₩55,000 :)

Once we ordered, another staff member in the back prepared the sashimi. They also offer to set aside the trimmings for spicy fish stew, though we skipped that. For reference, the stew seasoning can be bought together for ₩7,000.

While the sashimi was being prepared, I sat comfortably inside and waited. It took less than 10 minutes to pack, so there was no stress about waiting around — it was ready fast!

With Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving) coming up, Nokdo Susan also had a variety of half-dried fish ready for gift sets. They're available to order online too!

## Taking the sashimi to Daecheon Beach for sunset

Nokdo Susan packed the sashimi carefully into a box.

💡Tip before you visit — if you follow their Instagram or subscribe to their YouTube channel and mention you found them on Naver, they offer a special extra, so it's worth taking part.

✅Can you dine in? Yes, there's a food court on the second floor where you can eat if you pay the table setting fee.

We rushed straight to Daecheon Beach with the packed sashimi, haha — planning to eat it while watching the sunset! We laid out a mat and carefully unwrapped the neat packaging. It came with an ice pack included, keeping everything nice and fresh.

They even threw in sea squirt as a free extra! Chopsticks, spicy vinegar sauce, wasabi, and soy sauce were all included too. Sashimi calls for drinks, so we grabbed some at a convenience store to go with it~

### What the flounder sashimi tasted like

I tried the flounder first. The moment I bit in, I felt a strong soft-yet-chewy texture. I was surprised to taste the kind of chewiness usually found in aged sashimi, but in live fish! Watching the sunset go down while eating slice after slice — pure happiness ♥

![A chewy piece of natural flounder sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/nokdo-fish-market-daecheon-sunset-sashimi/nokdo-fish-market-daecheon-sunset-sashimi-20-1bvif-900.webp)

### What the rockfish sashimi tasted like

Next I tried the rockfish sashimi. It had a springy, bouncy texture that felt totally different from the flounder. The clear contrast between the two made it fun to enjoy two distinct flavors and textures. Since it was fresh off the boat at Daecheonhang Fish Market, you could really taste that freshness with every bite!

### One thing that fell short

The complimentary sea squirt was also fresh and pleasantly firm. My one small gripe: I usually prefer fresh wasabi with sashimi because it adds more flavor, and this wasn't fresh wasabi. Still, eating flounder, rockfish, and sea squirt while looking out at the sea and sunset made it taste even better than usual — I was so happy!

Enjoying somaek (soju-beer mix) alongside the sashimi too, nice and cold~ The romance level was off the charts!!! At first glance the portion looked like it would go fast, but as we kept eating we got surprisingly full! That's when the owner's recommended amount really proved itself.

## Final thoughts on Nokdo Susan

Of everything on this Boryeong trip, this moment stands out as the most memorable.

![Packed sashimi enjoyed with the sunset at Daecheon Beach](https://img.superchart.com/images/nokdo-fish-market-daecheon-sunset-sashimi/nokdo-fish-market-daecheon-sunset-sashimi-23-1fsw0-1200.webp)

I'm really glad I got sashimi packed to go from Nokdo Susan, the sashimi shop at Daecheonhang Fish Market. The taste, freshness, and friendliness all lived up to expectations. Daecheonhang Fish Market is only about a 7-8 minute drive from Daecheon Beach, so how about packing sashimi to go and enjoying it while watching the sunset as part of your Boryeong trip?!
