A great Korean restaurant for family gatherings — a hearty spread with excellent value, a real go-to place for set meals in Daejeon.

When it's hot and you've lost your appetite, mixing barley rice with yeolmu (young radish greens) and namul (seasoned vegetables) really brings it back, doesn't it? I visited a place where you can get barley rice, bone soup, and soybean noodles all in one sitting.

## Baengnyeon Boribap: location, hours and parking in Sintanjin

Baengnyeon Boribap is on the 1st floor of 358 Sintanjin-ro, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon. It's open daily from 11:00 to 20:20, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00 and last order at 19:40. There's free dedicated parking.

There's Parking Lot 1 in front of the building and Lot 2 behind it, so the parking area is spacious and can fit plenty of cars.

## Arriving at 2pm: a 10-minute wait at Baengnyeon Boribap

At Baengnyeon Boribap, if there's a wait, you register through Hi Order and wait in the lobby, and you're called in order. Even arriving close to 2pm, there was already a wait!! But the tables turn over fast, so I only waited about 10 minutes.

It's a barley rice restaurant with a savory smell of sesame oil and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) wafting through the air — the self-serve bar sits in the middle of a big hall, making the layout easy to navigate. With the set-meal menu, easy parking, and a spacious interior, I saw a lot of families eating there.

The restrooms are separated by gender and clean, which I really appreciated.

## What's on the self-serve namul bar?

Barley rice is included with every order at Baengnyeon Boribap, but you can help yourself to extra rice at the self-serve bar. There's japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), mukjelly, wrap vegetables, salad, cold cucumber soup, and a variety of namul for mixing — all self-serve, so take as much as you like.

Even taking just one scoop of each is an insane amount!!! 🤩 Between the mixing portions and side nibbles for our family of four, we were stuffed to the brim. There's a lot of variety, so I recommend taking just tiny amounts of each!!

## Four sets for four people: how big are the portions?

You order via kiosk, and gochujang (red pepper paste) and sesame oil for mixing, cups, utensils, napkins, and wet wipes are all set out at the table. This time we ordered the aged kimchi cheonggukjang barley rice set with mackerel, the black soybean noodle barley rice set with pork belly, and two siraegi (dried radish green) bone soup barley rice sets — one with mackerel, one with pork belly.

I thought the extras would just be small side dishes, so I ordered one set per person — but the portions are seriously huge!!! The bone soup comes as an individual hot pot with 2-3 meaty chunks of bone, the pork belly is one big plate meant for two, the mackerel is half a fish for two people, the cheonggukjang is a small hot pot per person, and the black soybean noodles fill about half a bowl. On top of all that, there's barley rice too — such huge portions at this price!!! Total steal!!!

I mixed in a bunch of different namul with sesame oil and gochujang. The gochujang has a slightly sweet edge to it, and it tastes amazing!!!

### How do the mackerel, stir-fried pork and black soybean noodles taste?

The grilled mackerel at Baengnyeon Boribap is seasoned on the salty side, so it goes great with plain rice. The pork belly looked spicy from its color but wasn't, so even kids ate it well. The soybean noodles use real black soybeans — the nuttiness is out of this world!

## Dessert and the verdict on Baengnyeon Boribap

For dessert, there are crackers, misugaru (roasted grain powder drink), and coffee ready to go, so your mouth stays happy even after the meal at Baengnyeon Boribap 😍

Bottom line, this is a top-value restaurant with insane portions 👍🏻 Great to bring your parents or kids, and the quiet location with easy parking makes it a total recommend! If you're looking for a Korean set-meal restaurant to visit with family, I'd suggest this one!! Ate well again today 🌷
