I recently found myself craving bibimbap and went searching, which led me to Baengnyeon Boribap in Sintanjin, a well-known Korean restaurant in Daejeon! Baengnyeon Boribap is a barley rice spot with a 12-dish self-serve bar. It's a buffet-style barley rice place where you can freely help yourself to ingredients perfect for mixing into bibimbap plus side dishes to eat alongside it!! Beyond barley rice, it also has set meals like pork bulgogi, grilled mackerel, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), and bone soup, plus dessert — a satisfying and hearty Korean restaurant in Daejeon ❛ᴗ❛ The place is spacious, clean, and has a cozy, quiet atmosphere, making it a great spot for family meals too. When I visited there were enough customers to cause a wait, and a lot of them were families! I ordered the grilled mackerel set and the pork bulgogi set! The self-serve bar is constantly restocked so it never runs empty — you can pile up as much as you like of your favorite ingredients!! Along with bibimbap ingredients there's japchae, jangjorim (soy-braised beef), lettuce wraps, salad, and more to go with your meal, which made Baengnyeon Boribap even more satisfying as a Daejeon Korean restaurant. The banchan in particular weren't salty or overly seasoned, so they were perfect for mixing into bibimbap! They give everyone a big plate for scooping banchan, so pile on whatever you like haha. The difference in everyone's taste really shows..lol Yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), mushrooms, radish salad, bracken fern, bean sprouts — all the banchan that go well with bibimbap, present and accounted for!! The stir-fried eggplant was really good too. At Baengnyeon Boribap, a Korean restaurant in Daejeon, you can enjoy unlimited rice refills as well as the 12 banchan. There are two kinds — barley rice and white rice — so it's a good spot even for people who prefer plain white rice. It went perfectly with the barley rice, and since there were lettuce leaves at the self-serve bar, wrapping it up was amazing too! Definitely try wrapping the grilled mackerel in lettuce as well haha. The savory cheonggukjang is the number one dish that always goes with barley rice! It has a nutty, subtly spicy flavor that's great eaten on its own with a spoon, or mixed a spoonful at a time into the bibimbap haha. Every table comes with gochujang (red chili paste) and sesame oil ready to go! I ate the bibimbap and grilled mackerel so happily that I was completely full, but somehow there was still room for the misugaru and puffed rice snacks.. The place is quite spacious but really busy! I visited around 1:20pm and there was a wait! Turnover is fast though, so a 5-10 minute wait was enough to get seated. At Baengnyeon Boribap, a Korean restaurant in Sintanjin, Daejeon, you can also get special discounts. They give pregnant customers, soldiers, and birthday visitors 10% off! Birthday guests do need to show ID haha. I could see a lot of riders visiting too haha. Parking a motorcycle here is easy, so I'd also recommend it to anyone who enjoys riding. When you're craving something clean and mild rather than spicy or heavily seasoned, or when you're in Sintanjin and thinking about barley rice or a well-put-together Korean meal, Baengnyeon Boribap is a great choice!!
