## In short

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a chicken-bone kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant at the entrance to Tongdosa Temple in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam. Ordering one eonyang kalguksu and one dak (chicken) kalguksu side by side showed the only real difference is whether half a slow-boiled chicken comes in the bowl, since both share the same nutty perilla-seed chicken-bone broth. Order the dak kalguksu for a hearty meal, or the eonyang kalguksu for a simpler bowl of noodles and broth.

On a chilly day, all you can think about is hot soup, right? I visited because kalguksu made with dak sagol (chicken bone broth) sounded easy on the stomach, and honestly it exceeded my expectations — the nutty broth, the well-cooked chicken, and the spicy kimchi were all great.

Hours: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM. There's a dedicated parking lot right next to the restaurant, so you don't need to worry about parking.

### Eonyang kalguksu vs dak kalguksu: what is the difference?

We ordered eonyang kalguksu and dak kalguksu this time. At first I wondered what set the two apart — turns out the biggest difference is whether half a chicken is included or not.

*Today's order*

Eonyang kalguksu doesn't include chicken meat, while dak kalguksu comes generously loaded with half a well-boiled chicken.

## Dak kalguksu: half a whole chicken in the bowl

*Dak kalguksu*

The dak kalguksu had a milky dak sagol broth with perilla seeds mixed in, giving it a properly nutty flavor.

The broth was rich but not heavy, and the more I ate, the more this subtle savory depth kept pulling me back for another spoonful.

What stood out most was the whole half-chicken sitting right in the bowl — just looking at it felt filling. The chicken had been simmered so long that the meat slipped off the bone with the lightest touch of chopsticks. No tugging needed — the meat came away moist, never tough or dry, and it was genuinely delicious.

I ate the tender chicken first, then paired it with the noodles, and finished off with the rich broth — one bowl was enough to leave me completely full.

If you love chicken or want a hearty meal, I'd recommend the dak kalguksu.

## Eonyang kalguksu: the simpler noodles-and-broth bowl

![A bowl of eonyang kalguksu served without chicken](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare-12-m3ng5-966.webp)

Eonyang kalguksu skips the half chicken, but in exchange lets you enjoy the noodles and broth in a somewhat cleaner way.

Just like the dak kalguksu, it's made with dak sagol broth and perilla seeds, so it was nutty with good savory depth too. The hot broth felt soothing on the stomach, making it a good fit for after a walk around Tongdosa.

If you want the full chicken experience, go with dak kalguksu; if you'd rather focus on the noodles and broth without too much heaviness, choose eonyang kalguksu. If there are two or more of you, ordering one of each to compare is a great idea too.

## The spicy and extra-spicy kimchi at Eonyang Dak Kalguksu

![Two side dishes: spicy kimchi and extra spicy kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare-14-rqh0c-966.webp)

What stuck with me here almost as much as the kalguksu was the kimchi. There were two types — spicy and extra spicy — and I kept reaching for the extra spicy one.

![Extra spicy kimchi served on a plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare-15-z2o7s-966.webp)

The name alone made me worry it might be too much, but it wasn't just aggressively hot for the sake of it.

![Extra spicy kimchi picked up with chopsticks](https://img.superchart.com/images/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare/tongdosa-dak-kalguksu-menu-compare-16-109i7-966.webp)

Behind the sharp heat, the kimchi's own savory depth came through, and it paired really well with the nutty dak sagol broth. Piling the extra spicy kimchi on top of the tender chicken or the noodles cut through any richness and revived my appetite instantly.

The combo of a spoonful of broth followed by a bite of kimchi was so good my chopsticks kept going back for more.

## Is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu worth a stop near Tongdosa Temple?

The nutty broth built on dak sagol and perilla, half a chicken so tender it fell off the bone at the lightest touch, and the sharp, spicy kimchi — it was a really well-rounded meal.

The difference between dak kalguksu and eonyang kalguksu was clear, making it easy to pick based on your appetite and preference. If you're looking for a place to eat with family after touring Tongdosa, or just craving something hot and filling, stop by Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch. The hearty dak kalguksu with half a chicken was great, but the kimchi made this kalguksu restaurant near Tongdosa even more memorable.
