## In short

Tareudang is a giant fruit mochi and tart takeout shop on the main street of Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, open 11:00 to 19:00. With the morning batch gone, this visit landed at the second batch around 4:30pm for four flavors: pineapple, gold kiwi, low-sugar yogurt peach, and low-sugar mango yogurt. The low-sugar line leaves out the red bean and tastes lighter while the regular line adds cream and red bean for more sweetness, making Tareudang a Gyeongju snack worth choosing by preference.

Here's a snack that comes to mind whenever I'm walking around Gyeongju. Today I went to Tareudang, a shop that sells giant fruit mochi. It was my first time trying this kind of giant mochi, and it was completely different from the usual fruit mochi. It's right on the Hwangnidang-gil main street, so it's easy to get to — a genuine Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot.

## What time does Tareudang restock its giant mochi?

Tareudang releases stock in batches throughout the day. The first batch tends to sell out by late morning.

Most shops on Hwangnidang-gil reopen around 4:30pm, and that's around when the extra stock here comes out too.

![The front of Tareudang on Hwangnidang-gil](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-01-s1570-900.webp)

I timed my visit for then and got to try every flavor.

![Fruit mochi picked up at Tareudang's restock time](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-02-xhpq5-900.webp)

If you want to try all the flavors you want, the key is timing your visit around the restock — a real Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot worth planning for.

## Where is Tareudang on Hwangnidang-gil, and how far is Cheomseongdae?

The location is really good.

![Tareudang located on Hwangnidang-gil's main street](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-03-17fzz-900.webp)

It's on Hwangnidang-gil's main street, on the same row as the famous Ichinisando, so it's very accessible. It's easy to stop by naturally while walking around.

![Exterior of the takeout-only Tareudang shop](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-04-1ydk4-737.webp)

Since it's a fast-turnover takeout-only shop, it's perfect for buying and eating on the go.

It's a great Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot to grab one before a Cheomseongdae stroll — locals keep coming back for it too.

## Yogurt cream packed with fruit, plus Tareudang's low-sugar line

I bought four kinds of fruit mochi.

Since it's autumn, I picked pineapple, kiwi, low-sugar yogurt peach, and low-sugar mango yogurt.

![Four fruit mochi flavors: pineapple, kiwi, low-sugar peach, low-sugar mango](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-05-lf48u-900.webp)

The fruit changes with the season, so what's available varies depending on when you visit.

The low-sugar line was noticeably less sweet, giving it a healthier feel,

while the non-low-sugar pineapple and kiwi were sweeter, with cream and red bean added, which made them delicious in their own way.

![Pineapple mochi with both cream and red bean](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-08-3270f-900.webp)

It's a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot with the fun of choosing by preference.

## How does Tareudang's mochi taste? Melt-in-the-mouth, like ice cream

The texture is genuinely surprising. Regular fruit mochi usually has red bean paste inside, right? The low-sugar line here doesn't include red bean at all.

Instead, there's cream. The outside is dusted with castella crumbs, with yogurt cream inside, and plenty of fruit inside that.

![Cross-section showing castella crumbs and yogurt cream](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-09-lmz60-899.webp)

The mochi skin isn't so much chewy rice cake as it is soft and almost watery, melting in your mouth.

![Soft mochi skin with fruit filling inside](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-10-13crp-899.webp)

Eaten cold, it's like ice cream — a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot you really need to enjoy chilled.

## The vanilla bean cream inside the regular mochi

The cream was special too. It didn't feel like just any cream.

![Close-up of the yogurt cream inside Tareudang's mochi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-11-81bgd-900.webp)

I could see little black specks that looked like vanilla bean.

![Cream with black specks that look like vanilla bean](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-12-1d215-900.webp)

That made me think they might make the cream in-house.

![Handmade giant mochi in varying shapes](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-13-1m8bz-814.webp)

The fact that each mochi's shape varies depending on the size of the fruit — as if rolled by hand like a snowball — also gave it a homemade charm.

It's a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot with a handmade feel, not something that tastes mass-produced.

## Tareudang's gift-style packaging and 1,000-won cooler bag

The packaging is pretty too.

![Tareudang's fruit mochi packed by color](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-14-n9no3-1200.webp)

Since each fruit mochi is a different color, the packaged set looked really appealing, almost like a Hanjeongseon (traditional gift set). The orange sign was pretty too.

Because mochi needs to be kept cold, a cooler bag is essential.

![Tareudang's cooler bag for storing mochi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-15-1ocv7-900.webp)

It's an extra ₩1,000, but they give a discount if you leave a review.

![Fruit mochi packed inside the cooler bag](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-16-wtwwd-900.webp)

The cooler bag is cute too, which makes it fun to grab — a Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot.

## Tarts and other desserts at Tareudang, a tart shop first

This place originally specializes in tarts. That's why, alongside the mochi, they also sell egg tarts and cheesecakes.

![Display case with egg tarts and cheesecakes](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-17-13co9-899.webp)

I only bought the fruit mochi this time, but I'm curious about the tarts too and plan to try them together next time.

![Tareudang's lineup of tart desserts](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-18-1awjh-900.webp)

Buy 4 or more and you get ₩500 off each, so it's good for sharing with a group or packing as a gift.

![A box of mochi bought with the bulk discount](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-19-xh7u4-899.webp)

A Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot with plenty of options.

## Is Tareudang worth it as a Gyeongju snack?

To sum up, Tareudang is a Hwangnidang-gil takeout dessert shop selling giant fruit mochi.

![Takeout giant fruit mochi from Hwangnidang-gil](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-20-1t5j2-900.webp)

Yogurt cream packed with fruit, a surprising melt-in-your-mouth texture, and a low-sugar line so you can choose by preference.

![Cross-section of mochi packed with yogurt cream and fruit](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-21-1p7d0-900.webp)

It's on the main street, so it's easy to reach, and it's perfect for a Cheomseongdae stroll.

![Fruit mochi enjoyed on a Cheomseongdae stroll](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi/gyeongju-hwangnidan-gil-tardang-giant-mochi-22-101es-900.webp)

Just know the restock time and you'll be able to try every flavor you want,

so if you're walking around Gyeongju and craving a snack, I recommend stopping by this Hwangnidang-gil dessert spot, Tareudang.
