## In short

Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon is a two-story bakery café near Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, about 5 minutes on foot from Gyeongbokgung Station. After a walk around the palace, I sat by the calm second-floor window and tried the salt bread original, salt summer latte, and caramel crème. The salty-sweet combo made it a great spot to rest halfway through a Seochon stroll.

Whenever I head out for a walk around Gyeongbokgung Palace or Seochon, there are so many pretty cafés and good restaurants that I always end up torn over where to go. This time I visited a bakery café that's great to stop by after a Gyeongbokgung walk — Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon. The space suits Seochon's quiet, old-town mood so well that I wanted to linger a while rather than just grab a coffee and leave.

## 5 minutes from Gyeongbokgung Station, a white brick bakery tucked into a Seochon alley

Respire Bakery is about a 5-minute walk from Gyeongbokgung Station, so it was easy to get to. It sits on Hyoja-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and as you walk along the alley, the white brick exterior and warm lighting catch your eye. The look is classic yet polished, and it fits Seochon's mood surprisingly well. If you're looking for somewhere to rest after wandering around Gyeongbokgung or Seochon, this place naturally draws your attention.

## A warm space the moment you step in

The first thing I noticed after opening the door was how calm and comfortable it felt inside. Natural light poured through the big windows, and with the warm lighting added on top, the whole place felt cozy. On the first floor, the smell of freshly baked bread mixed with coffee — very much a bakery café — and it lifted my mood right away. There was a bit of lively energy from people picking out bread, which actually made it easier to settle in rather than feeling too quiet. I spotted some foreign tourists too, and it seemed like exactly the kind of café you'd stumble into while exploring Seochon.

### The difference between the 1st and 2nd floors

If the first floor is where you feel a bit more of that lively bread-and-coffee energy, the second floor is noticeably calmer and more relaxed. The sunlight coming in through the window seats was especially pretty — sitting there in the afternoon, I lost track of time. It felt like the kind of spot where you'd bring a book to read or just quietly sip coffee. Seochon has this quiet, old-town charm from its alleys, hanok houses, and older buildings, and Respire Bakery adds a slightly more polished feel without disrupting that mood.

## How was the salt bread original?

After debating where to sit, I settled into the calmer, quieter second floor. I ordered the salt bread original, the salt summer latte, and the caramel crème. The salt bread original had a light, crisp outside and a moist, soft inside, which made for a fun contrast in texture. You could really taste the nutty butter flavor typical of salt bread, with a salty note running through it that kept me reaching for more. It wasn't too sweet or overpowering, so it paired well with coffee too. If you're a fan of salt bread, this is one worth trying at least once.

## Salt summer latte — is the saltiness strong?

Then there was the coffee drink whose name had me curious — the salt summer latte! Since it has salt in it, I worried the saltiness might be overpowering, but when I actually tried it, the salty note was subtle, layered gently over a sweet, smooth latte rather than jumping out. It seems like a great fit for people who love sweet drinks but find overly sugary ones a bit much. Paired with the salt bread, the combination worked really well — nutty, salty bread with a smooth latte was just right for after a Seochon walk.

### Caramel crème and salt bread together

The caramel crème we ordered alongside deserves a mention too. It had that distinct rich, sweet caramel flavor, offering a different charm from the coffee. With its sweetness carrying the flavor, it went really well with the original salt bread.

## A bakery good for a quick rest in Seochon

Respire Bakery felt less like a grab-and-go bread stop and more like a place to browse, sit, and enjoy some downtime. The natural light through the big windows made the interior feel bright and warm, and the calm space made it easy to sit back with a coffee. Walking around Seochon or Gyeongbokgung tends to mean more steps than you expect, so stopping for good bread and coffee makes the whole trip feel more relaxed. If you're looking for a place in Seochon to enjoy tasty bread and coffee together, I'd recommend stopping by Respire Bakery Cafe Seochon after a walk around Gyeongbokgung. That's it for now~!
