Wandering Jeonju Hanok Village isn't just about admiring the hanok scenery — there's also all kinds of street food to snack on as you walk~

Taejo-ro, the road that runs from Jeondong Cathedral past Gyeonggijeon Shrine toward Omokdae, is lined with snack shops, so it's fun to browse and pick things up one by one.

This time, while looking around the village, I stopped by Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store and got some dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken glazed in sweet-savory sauce) to go. There's no seating inside, so it's really a takeout shop — you either eat it as a snack while walking around the village or bring it back to your accommodation.

It's on Taejo-ro, the main street of the Hanok Village, so it's not hard to find. Follow Taejo-ro from Jeondong Cathedral toward Gyeonggijeon Shrine and Omokdae and you'll come across it — it's listed as about 3 minutes on foot from Jeondong Cathedral and Gyeonggijeon Shrine, and about 5 minutes from Omokdae.

## Finding a dakgangjeong shop on Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village

The day we visited, it kept raining and clearing, so the air was pretty humid. As we walked around the Hanok Village, we started craving a simple snack, so we picked dakgangjeong.

Mannyeon isn't really a sit-down spot — it's set up more for taking your order and eating it while wandering the village or bringing it back to your accommodation.

There's a big menu board out front, so you can check what's on offer just by walking past — besides dakgangjeong, there were side items like jjondeugi (chewy rice cake skewers) and a slushy-plus-beer set.

You can order the large boneless dakgangjeong in a single flavor, or split it half-and-half between two flavors if your group's tastes differ. I went with half spicy, half soy.

## How much chicken comes in a large half-and-half order?

The chicken was packed neatly and they gave us several sets of wooden chopsticks. When we opened it up, the portion was bigger than expected — plenty for a snack.

The sauce was coated evenly over the whole thing and had a nice glossy sheen, so it photographed really well 🤤

We debated where to eat it, and luckily found a free table in the outdoor area of a convenience store in the Hanok Village, so we had it with beer. Eating takeout dakgangjeong outdoors while wandering the village felt like its own kind of travel snack experience.

## Spicy vs soy dakgangjeong: how do the two halves taste?

We ordered Mannyeon's spicy and soy flavors half-and-half. Based on the name alone, I expected the spicy one to be pretty intense, but the sauce itself wasn't actually that hot.

The spicy version had cheongyang chili and sliced garlic on top, and the heat came more from those than from the sauce itself. Personally, I thought it could've used a bit more cheongyang chili.

The soy flavor was much milder than the spicy one, closer to an easy choice for people who can't handle spicy food, or for eating with kids.

Since it was freshly fried, the crispy texture on the outside held up decently even while still warm. The shop notes that it tastes even better once it's cooled down, so we tasted a bit right away and saved the rest for later — and sure enough, the texture and sauce flavor changed noticeably as time passed.

## Eating dakgangjeong with beer outside a Hanok Village convenience store

Honestly, we didn't buy this dakgangjeong planning to make a meal of it — we picked it up as a snack while sightseeing in the Hanok Village.

So we only ate a bit and brought the rest home. With the travel time, the crispiness dropped compared to when we first ate it, but the sauce flavor came through a bit more once it cooled.

The portion was big enough that we couldn't finish it all in one sitting anyway. Pairing it with pickled radish and cabbage salad we had at home made it much easier to eat — having side dishes like that alongside cuts the richness compared to just eating dakgangjeong on its own.

Personally, if you're planning to eat it right away while walking around the Hanok Village, eat it warm; if you're taking it back to your accommodation or home, letting it cool first is fine too.

## Made and sold the same day: how the flavors hold up

According to the shop's signage, they prep and fry the chicken fresh every day, and make the sauce using real fruit like apples and pineapple.

The mild flavor has a light kick with garlic and sesame on top, the soy flavor is the one to go for with no heat at all, and the spicy flavor gets its kick from cheongyang chili and garlic.

Jeonju Hanok Village packs so many sights and food options together that people often end up snacking on a little bit of everything while walking around, rather than sitting down for one full meal.

Since Mannyeon doesn't have its own tables, it's easiest to think of it as a place to grab takeout and eat on the move or back at your accommodation, rather than somewhere to linger.
