## In short

Samsam Goroke is a croquette bakery in Sokcho Jungang Market, at stall 42 in the chicken alley. The 6-piece set costs 21,000 won, discounted to 17,000 won, and was filled with red crab, abai, pollack roe cream, fire jjamppong, gochu japchae (stir-fried pepper and beef) and potato croquettes, bought together with abai makgeolli and corn dongdongju to eat back at the hotel. Each croquette used a different local Sokcho filling, which made the set easy to share, and the red crab croquette was the personal favorite.

Sokcho Jungang Market is famous for dakgangjeong (fried chicken) and squid sundae, but I wanted to try something a little different this time, so I went looking for a bakery in the market!

And what I found was Samsam Goroke! From the nostalgic red bean croquette to a red crab croquette with Sokcho flair, and even an abai croquette — they sell more than six kinds of croquettes, so picking a menu was half the fun.

## Where is Samsam Goroke? Stall 42 in the chicken alley, Sokcho Jungang Market

Samsam Goroke is at stall 42 in the chicken alley of Sokcho Jungang Market. It was easy to find… 📍 Recommended for anyone visiting Sokcho who wants something other than the usual market snacks!

Inside the market it's across from the Manseok Dakgangjeong main store, right next to Saerom Matjip, so if you navigate by those well-known landmarks it's not hard to find at all!

There are so many shops packed into Sokcho Jungang Market that it's easy to get lost the first time, but knowing the location ahead of time makes things way easier! I actually stumbled on it while wandering around the market 💗 With so many kinds of croquettes, Samsam Goroke looked like a great spot to just grab one as a light snack while passing by!!

## How much is the Samsam Goroke croquette set?

> Prices and set details! They also carry locally made alcohol!

![Samsam Goroke set prices displayed alongside local alcohol](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-04-yyew6-900.webp)

- 6-piece croquette set: ₩21,000 → ₩17,000
- 3-piece croquette set: ₩10,500 → ₩9,000

With prices discounted like this, buying the set is definitely the better deal!? ⭐️

## What flavors are on the Samsam Goroke menu?

![Samsam Goroke's croquette menu board](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-05-xfg2t-900.webp)

Looking at the menu board, there were a bunch of options using ingredients you can really only get in Sokcho! Alongside their signature Sokcho red crab croquette, here's the full lineup:

- 📌 Sokcho red crab croquette ₩3,700
- Abai croquette ₩3,700
- Fire jjamppong croquette ₩3,500
- Pollack roe cream croquette ₩3,500
- Gochu japchae croquette ₩3,500
- Sokcho potato croquette ₩3,300
- Seed red bean croquette ₩3,000

Prices differ by menu item, and honestly they're all pretty affordable… 🫶🏻 So it was great to pick a few and compare the flavors 💗

### 3-piece set or 6-piece set: why I chose six

![Sign showing the 3-piece and 6-piece set options](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-07-18vag-900.webp)

The 3-piece set is the best seller, but only three flavors felt like too few…? So today I decided on the 6-piece set!

## Buying abai makgeolli and corn dongdongju with the croquettes

> Local alcohol you can only find in Sokcho!

![Display shelf of local Sokcho makgeolli](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-08-1d0e3-m-900.webp)

![Bottle of abai makgeolli](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-09-sd6u7-900.webp)

![Bottle of corn dongdongju](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-10-186ks-900.webp)

Samsam Goroke also sells Sokcho's local makgeolli, so I picked up abai makgeolli and corn dongdongju too! Both were so good. Prices were nice as well… and they went perfectly with the croquettes!! 🤍

![Freshly fried croquettes just out of the fryer](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-11-ftods-900.webp)

When you order, they fry them fresh right on the spot…? The smell is seriously insane… 🔥 I almost couldn't wait to eat them.

## Paying with Onnuri and Sokcho Love gift certificates

![Sign noting Onnuri gift certificates are accepted](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-12-dpj3h-900.webp)

![Sign for Sokcho Love gift certificates and the English menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-13-mnpt1-900.webp)

At Samsam Goroke you can pay with both Onnuri gift certificates and Sokcho Love gift certificates!! Given how many international visitors come through Sokcho Jungang Market for food, having an English menu ready felt like a whole new level… 🔥🔥

![Croquettes packed in a to-go bag](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-14-1hujh-900.webp)

They packed everything up sturdily for me, so I took it to go and headed straight back to the hotel. Since I was traveling around Sokcho again, I decided to bring it back and try each one at the room!

![Packaged croquettes with flavor-marking stickers](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-15-mleg4-900.webp)

Once packed, the stickers marking each flavor were colorful! 💗 So many different ones, super cute to look at…? 💗 Croquettes taste great fresh out of the fryer, but taking a mixed box back to the room and eating them slowly was also great!! Best of all, since the fillings were completely different, the flavor changed every time I picked up a new one, which made it fun… 💗

![The 6-piece croquette set brought back to the hotel room](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-16-10vju-900.webp)

Packed it up and hurried back to the room 💗💗

## Tasting all six Samsam Goroke croquettes one by one

![Assorted croquettes unpacked in the hotel room](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-17-sg4kz-1200.webp)

![Cross-section of the abai croquette showing its filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-18-lyeh8-900.webp)

![Cross-section of the Sokcho potato croquette](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-19-68keu-900.webp)

✅ Abai croquette — filled with abai sundae (blood sausage), it tastes like fried abai sundae…? Even better than that…? It's Sokcho's signature dish, so definitely include it in your set…!

✅ Sokcho potato croquette — you can really taste the mealy, mild flavor of the potato, which was nice to have between the more intense flavors. Personally, croquettes with overly rich fillings get old after a few bites, but the potato one was mild enough that I could finish the whole thing easily.

✅ Sokcho red crab croquette — the umami of the red crab meat made this feel distinctly like Sokcho compared to a regular croquette!! Crispy on the outside with the filling packed soft and full inside — personally one of the best I had… 💗💗 As the signature menu item, I got why it's so popular!

![Creamy filling inside the pollack roe cream croquette](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-20-1xes1-900.webp)

✅ Pollack roe cream croquette — the salty kick of pollack roe combined with smooth cream for a savory, rich flavor…! 💗💗 It's not just salty, it's creamy, so you keep reaching for more without feeling weighed down! Honestly this one was so good that I already wanted to have it again next time lol

✅ Fire jjamppong croquette — I already love jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and having that flavor packed inside a croquette was both delicious and unusual!? It's about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, so it's not too much — even spice wimps can handle it!

✅ Gochu japchae croquette — spicy yet sweet, and paired with japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) it was even better!? Made me realize how varied a croquette can taste!

## My top 3 croquettes at Samsam Goroke

So my personal favorites were,

![The top-ranked Sokcho red crab croquette](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-21-1tyqy-900.webp)

![A bite taken out of the abai croquette](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-22-1m7f2-900.webp)

![Mealy interior of the potato croquette](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-23-1xf3p-900.webp)

- 🥇 Sokcho red crab croquette
- 🥈 Abai croquette
- 🥉 Sokcho potato croquette

These three! The upside is being able to enjoy several flavors at once! On top of these there's also abai, fire jjamppong, gochu japchae, and seed red bean, so you can pick based on your taste! If you like spicy, go for the fire jjamppong or gochu japchae; if you're into sweet snacks, I'd recommend the seed red bean croquette!!

After trying all of these, I realized that when looking for a bakery in Sokcho Jungang Market, the ones with locally flavored menus like this one leave a much bigger impression… 💗💗

## Who Samsam Goroke is worth a stop for

![An assortment of croquettes laid out together](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing/sokcho-market-croquette-makgeolli-pairing-24-1vuel-900.webp)

Sokcho Jungang Market has so much food that it's hard to decide what to eat! Samsam Goroke is a great snack for splitting several kinds between people, so I'd especially recommend it for family trips or visits with friends!!👍🏻 The fact that you're not stuck with just one flavor — you can mix and match red crab, pollack roe cream, potato, abai, and more — is a real plus!

Especially if you're a croquette lover like me, it's hard to just walk past that display…!! And fresh-fried ones taste even better…🔥🔥 If you're looking for something light to carry around and eat while wandering Sokcho Jungang Market, head to Samsam Goroke! Remember the spot — chicken alley stall 42, Samsam Goroke… 💗💗
