I went to Jongno for a TOEIC Speaking test in the morning, then finally visited Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵), which I’d been curious about! I found it while looking for good bakeries around Jongno 3-ga, so this time I went in and tried it for myself.

## Munhwa Bakery near Jongno 3-ga Station: location and atmosphere

If you love bread, it may be a place you’ve heard of at least once. It is near Jongno 3-ga Station, so it was easy to pop in while looking around the neighborhood.

Munhwa Bakery felt a little different from an ordinary bakery from the outside alone. Its clean look and tiled entrance gave it a distinctive atmosphere that would probably catch your eye as you passed by. It is fairly close to Jongno 3-ga Station too, making it a good spot to pick up bread after visiting other places around Jongno or Ikseon-dong.

## A line appeared while I waited for the doors to open

Even when I visited, there were people coming to buy bread, and I thought, yes, this really is a well-known Jongno 3-ga bakery. My test ended early, so I was definitely waiting alone for the doors to open—but while I looked away for a moment, people had lined up lol ㅠㅠ There were about eight people ahead of me? And I think there was quite a line behind me too.

Since only two parties could enter at a time, the line did feel like it moved a little slowly. But the weather was so nice that day, and I could see the bread, so I was too excited to be bored haha.

## Choosing maple cream cheese bread and garlic bread

Once inside, I found many kinds of bread on display. There was everything from familiar breads to slightly unusual ones, so I paused to wonder what I should choose. I had looked up which bread to eat before visiting Munhwa Bakery, but seeing them in person made me hesitate all over again.

After looking around one by one, I chose the maple cream cheese bread and garlic bread. I had seen the garlic bread often when searching for Munhwa Bakery, so I really wanted to try it. And maple cream cheese bread sounded like a combination I already love, so I picked that too.

Munhwa Bakery is great for taking bread away, and it is fun to see the varieties and choose for yourself, so I think it is worth a stop if you are looking for bread in Jongno. Personally, if you are searching for a good bakery around Jongno 3-ga, I think it would be nice to visit at least once.

## Taking it home

I packed up the two breads I chose and brought them home. Just looking at the bag of bread made me happy thinking about getting home, haha.

## How was the maple cream cheese bread?

(But seriously, it smelled impossibly delicious from the start;;;;;;) The first one I tried was the maple cream cheese bread! True to its name, the gentle sweetness of maple went so well with the rich, soft flavor of cream cheese. It was not overwhelmingly sweet, so it did not feel heavy, and the cream cheese added a lovely nutty richness too.

The texture of the bread and the soft cream cheese worked so well together that, personally, I liked the maple cream cheese bread better of the two. I think it would also be good for anyone who likes sweet bread but finds an intensely sweet flavor a bit much.

## I also recommend the moist garlic bread

And then there was the garlic bread, which I could not leave out! The distinctive aroma and flavor of garlic came through, along with sweet and salty notes that made me keep reaching for more. Garlic bread can sometimes have too strong a garlic flavor or feel hard, but when I ate this one, it was delicious without being too much. And you can tell from the photo—the moistness was insane 🤯

I think it would go well with coffee, and it was also great to eat one piece at a time as a simple snack. After trying it myself, I understood why so many people recommend Munhwa Bakery’s garlic bread. It really! is! delicious.

## If you are looking for a bakery in Jongno

I was satisfied with Munhwa Bakery on this visit because it has such a variety of breads and it was easy to take them home and enjoy them comfortably. Both the maple cream cheese bread and garlic bread I tried were delicious, so next time I visit, I want to try other breads one by one too.

Jongno has so many good places to eat, but if you are looking for delicious dessert or bread as well as a meal, I think Munhwa Bakery is a good choice. It is also widely known as one of Seoul’s three great bakeries, so if you usually love bread, I think it would be worth visiting at least once.
