What I liked most about Dongchundang was the huge parking lot. There's plenty of private parking, so even on a weekend evening I could pull in without any parking stress. They also had kids' chairs ready and could accommodate groups, so it looked good for family gatherings or eating out with parents too. ## What is on the self-serve sauce bar? The self-serve bar was really well organized! There are sauces that go nicely with shabu shabu too. If you want to make your own soy dipping sauce or eat the kalguksu with a bit of a kick, adding the chili works well! And here's another thing that makes Dongchundang appealing — free-flowing makgeolli (rice wine). That's welcome news for makgeolli lovers. With the pancake menu on hand too, it seems like a satisfying setup if adults are visiting on their own. Since I was with my kid, I only got a small taste of the vibe, haha. 😊 On the left side of the restaurant there's a waiting area. There's also a photo zone, so it might be worth snapping a memory there. With a kid along, you can cook and cool down their portion separately, which made it a solid choice for a family meal out. ### Finishing with mugwort kalguksu noodles What I loved most was getting to finish with kalguksu noodles after the shabu shabu. Shabu shabu alone can feel like it's missing something, but finishing off with noodles in the broth makes for a really filling meal. Dongchundang's kalguksu noodles are made with mugwort, so even the color is a bit different from regular noodles. They're chewy yet clean-tasting, and paired really well with the shabu shabu broth. Personally, this was the side dish that stuck with me the most that day. A golden-fried pancake topped with plump octopus, with chives and minari (water dropwort) mixed throughout — it looked delicious from the first glance. The fragrant chives and minari combined with the chewy octopus, and it went really well alongside the shabu shabu.
