## In short

Shabu20 Asan Onyang Branch is a shabu-shabu buffet restaurant in Asan, Chungnam, where families can enjoy hot pot and a wide range of buffet dishes. We split the pot between katsuobushi and spicy broth, and the children happily ate meat cooked in the katsuobushi broth. A filling, cheerful choice for a family dinner.

Sparkle, who is getting close to 18 months old, had wanted to eat grown-up food for quite a while, so I started letting her try food from outside a little earlier than I did with Sprout. Now I have to consider menus that Sparkle can eat too whenever we dine out, so there is even more to think about.

I look for menus that the children will eat well and adults will enjoy too, and I found another restaurant in Asan that I want to revisit. We had a wonderfully filling meal at Shabu20, where the shabu-shabu was delicious and the side dishes were plentiful too. 🥄

## Shabu20 prices and broth choices

Weekday lunch is ₩24,900–₩26,900, while weekday dinner, weekends, and public holidays are ₩29,900–₩31,900. Preschool children are ₩6,900 and elementary school students are ₩13,900; the price varies depending on the broth.

Since it was our first visit, we ordered two of the original broths. ✔️

## A split pot of katsuobushi and spicy broth

We chose katsuobushi broth and spicy broth.

My husband looked around the buffet first and brought back meat, vegetables, and various side dishes. Nosy little Sprout was very busy following Dad around in a place like this. (Please just sit down…)

We loaded up on meat and vegetables right from the start!

The dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) was really delicious. My husband especially liked the rosé potatoes.

The dishes were refilled quickly before they ran out. Unlimited shabu-shabu meat—love it. 👍🏻

## A buffet corner with plenty for children and adults to choose from

While the broth came to a boil, I looked around the buffet corner too, and I was surprised to see LA galbi (Korean-style marinated beef short ribs). There were also lots of dishes that both I and the children could enjoy: dakgangjeong, fried rice, cream pasta, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), rosé potatoes, takoyaki, and more.

There was a big selection of vegetables and sauces too. And the labels “vegetable garden” and “springwater station” were cute, haha.

There was sweet pumpkin porridge and beef cream soup too, so there was absolutely no need to worry that the children would have nothing to eat. With rice cakes and desserts as well, it felt like a generous spread.

## Shabu-shabu shared with the children

I like shabu-shabu because the wait for the meat to cook is short. The katsuobushi broth felt distinctive to me because it was different from the broth I had eaten at usual shabu-shabu places, while the spicy broth suited my taste perfectly.

Even when I want spicy broth, I always order a clear broth because I have to eat with the children. With a split pot, though, we could enjoy both, which made me even happier. My husband said the katsuobushi broth was delicious. (Even our tastes are this different.)

Sprout and Sparkle munched away on meat cooked in the katsuobushi broth. Sprout ate well too, but Sparkle—who had been eyeing grown-up food—ate even better once she could eat with us.

Drinking straight from the bowl. A baby who eats well is always so adorable, isn’t she?

We finished the meal with ice cream! It was such a satisfying dinner. 👏🏻

## A family meal that even included dessert to go

On our way out after eating, I was surprised to see cups set out so we could take dessert with us. You could take a coffee, drink, or ice cream to go, so it seemed like a lovely way to continue the meal with a little refreshment afterward.

I had already eaten plenty of ice cream, so I did not have any more, but my husband left the restaurant holding a cup of coffee. We did not need to stop at a separate café, and having dessert too made it feel like a very satisfying dinner.

The main shabu-shabu was great to share with the children, and the buffet selection was so well rounded that both adults and children could choose this and that according to their tastes. Our whole family had a happily full dinner. I feel proud to have found a nice place in Asan to go with the children. It is somewhere I want to remember for family meals out!
