## In short

Jeju Oktop JEJU BBQ, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch is a Jeju black pork restaurant on Gwangju-daero in Gwangju, Gyeonggi. The Signature BBQ A Set for 2–3 people costs 55,000 won, and swapping the pork skin for 100g of a special cut for 4,000 won more brought bonsamgyeop (rib-end pork belly) and gabrisal (pork collar), which staff trimmed and grilled to bite-size pieces at the table. Alternating the juicy bonsamgyeop with the chewy gabrisal kept the meal interesting right to the last piece.

## What kind of restaurant is Jeju Oktop, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch?

Jeju Oktop, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch is a black pork restaurant on Gwangju-daero in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi Province (right near E-mart!). With interiors full of Jeju vibes and a wide range of black pork menus, it's a great spot for a company dinner in Gyeongan-dong, a family meal out, or even a date.

## Parking and how to get to Jeju Oktop

![Exterior of Jeju Oktop, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch and directions](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-02-3gabz-m-900.webp)

For directions, it's better to search for Munhwa Wedding Hall on your navigation rather than searching for Jeju Oktop Gyeonggi Gwangju.

That's because Jeju Oktop, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch doesn't have its own parking lot right out front — it's about a 2 to 3 minute walk away. You'll need to park at Munhwa Wedding Hall (a wedding venue) — enter through the parking lot entrance next to the Jjamppong Jijon restaurant. Parking is registered free for 2 hours.

## A look around the dining room

Walking into the restaurant, I immediately noticed the atmosphere felt distinctly different from a typical Korean BBQ restaurant.

Dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statues) and Jeju-evoking interior touches were everywhere, giving me the feeling I'd briefly traveled to Jeju Island from Gyeonggi Gwangju.

Most of all, the best thing about Jeju Oktop is that the staff grill the meat for you. Thick-cut black pork can taste very different depending on how it's grilled, so it was great to relax and let them handle it perfectly.

The meat here goes through both wet-aging and dry-aging, concentrating the essential flavor of the meat for a richer taste.

In fact, this place also takes reservations and group bookings, so it looked great not just for dates but also for gatherings!

There were also traces of visits from some famous celebrities we recognized.

- Black pork bonsamgyeop (330g) ₩36,000
- Black pork shoulder rack (330g) ₩36,000

Besides black pork, you can also properly enjoy 1++ grade Korean beef — sirloin, galbisal, tenderloin, chuck flap, sae-u-sal, and more.

The side dish menu is also full of items you'd expect to see at a Jeju Island meat restaurant.

## Table setting and side dishes

From the basic table setting to the myeoljeot sauce (fermented anchovy sauce) and various side dishes, everything gave off strong Jeju vibes.

![Basic table setting with myeoljeot sauce and side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-10-1nq7r-900.webp)

![Sauces and seasonings including pink salt on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-11-1umij-900.webp)

There were various sauces and seasonings to go with the meat — Himalayan pink salt, steak seasoning, sun-dried sea salt, pepper — so even the same cut of meat tasted slightly different depending on the combination.

## Signature BBQ A Set: swapping the pork skin for a special cut

We ordered the Signature BBQ A Set (2-3 people) for ₩55,000. We swapped the skin for 100g of a special cut here, adding ₩4,000.

![Signature BBQ A Set table setting including grilled vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-12-14ru2-900.webp)

The set even comes with grilled vegetables. From the side dish setup to the main dish setup, everything was very neatly arranged.

The dish I was most looking forward to that day was the black pork bonsamgyeop.

![Raw black pork bonsamgyeop on a plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-14-1q87w-900.webp)

Unlike regular samgyeopsal (pork belly), this uses the belly cut attached to the rib bone, giving it moderate marbling and a good chew.

![Thick-cut bonsamgyeop showing its thickness](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-15-143ve-900.webp)

![Black pork bonsamgyeop grilling on the pan](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-16-5a80q-900.webp)

The first thing that caught my eye when the meat arrived was just how thick it was!

As it started to sizzle golden-brown on the grill, the savory pork aroma rose up and really got my appetite going!

The outside cooked up crispy while the inside stayed juicy — it looked incredibly appetizing just from the visuals.

### Staff grilling service, and asking them to separate the skin

One of the great things about Jeju Oktop is the grilling service where staff cook the meat for you.

When we asked them to separate the skin, they were happy to do it and grilled it perfectly as requested — really nice touch.

They also cut the meat into nice bite-sized pieces as they grilled it.

![Cold noodle soup ordered alongside the meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-17-7ji2u-900.webp)

The moment I see meat, I can't resist ordering mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)... haha. Whether it's the soup version or the spicy mixed version, cold noodles with meat aren't optional — they're mandatory.

![A bite-sized piece of grilled black pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-18-5rtq5-900.webp)

## How does the bonsamgyeop pork belly taste?

After cutting off a piece and trying it, I understood why bonsamgyeop is so recommended. The thick meat was moist with juices, and the more I chewed, the more savory the meaty aroma became.

In particular, the ratio of fat to lean meat was just right, so it wasn't overly greasy and still had a nice chewy texture. (Plus the texture was extremely tender.)

![Black pork dipped in myeoljeot sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-19-w1y9s-900.webp)

At first I ate it plain, dipped in salt, and then tried it with the myeoljeot sauce and other accompaniments for a whole different flavor.

![Fully grilled bonsamgyeop with accompaniments](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-20-z13zm-900.webp)

Personally, of everything we ate that day, the bonsamgyeop left the strongest impression. It was satisfying enough that I naturally gave a double thumbs-up after one bite.

The galbisal attached to the bone was also amazing! Meat that's gone through both wet-aging and dry-aging really is different.

### What was the gabrisal special cut like?

The gabrisal (special cut) had an appealingly chewier, more resilient texture. The subtle savory flavor that came through with each chew was great, and if you like the distinctive texture of special cuts, this one is quite satisfying.

![Grilled gabrisal, the special cut](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-21-1s8vm-900.webp)

It was interesting how, after eating the bonsamgyeop, the gabrisal tasted and felt so different even though it's the same pork, just a different cut.

![Black pork kimchi jjigae eaten to finish the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-22-14pl9-900.webp)

We finished the meal happily with black pork kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew). The owner recommended it, and now I understand why — I polished off a whole bowl of rice with it.

## A receipt rewards app worth knowing about

> Wait, there's a helpful system like this?

I honestly hadn't known about this handy app until now. Why did it take me so long to find out?

It's called ReturnX. Through the app, you just take a photo of your payment receipt and upload it, and you earn back N% of the payment amount as points.

![Screen of the receipt cashback app](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-23-o9e3q-900.webp)

The ReturnX app isn't just for earning points at Jeju Oktop — you can use it at other restaurants, Olive Young, beauty care shops, tire shops, and various other businesses, as long as you save and upload the receipt! Why did I only find out about this now... I need to use it often from here on and stack up those points.

## Final verdict on Jeju Oktop in Gwangju

![Photo of grilled black pork for the overall verdict](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set/jeju-oktap-gwangju-signature-bbq-set-24-1rbus-900.webp)

Jeju Oktop, Gwangju Gyeongan Branch serves not just black pork samgyeopsal but also a wide variety of menu items like bonsamgyeop, shoulder rack, and special cuts. So rather than sticking to just one cut, I'd recommend ordering bonsamgyeop along with a special cut, like we did that day. Alternating between the rich juiciness of the bonsamgyeop and the chewy texture of the gabrisal meant we never got tired of it, right to the very last bite!
