A weekday after work, wanting an evening different from the usual. Looking for a restaurant with good atmosphere to mark a special occasion, I visited Usu, a hanwoo (Korean beef) dining restaurant in Gongdeok!

I was looking for somewhere with great food and a quiet space to eat at ease, and Usu — which I want to recommend as a Gongdeok favorite — gave me an even more satisfying meal than I expected.

## Where Usu is in Gongdeok, plus hours and parking

> Usu
> : meaning the snow melting into rain and life sprouting from thawing ground — a place that brings vitality to the table
> 109 Mapo-daero, B2 Floor Unit 201, Lotte Castle President Commercial Building, Mapo-gu, Seoul
> Daily 11:00–22:00 / Break time 15:00–17:00
> Private rooms, groups, corkage, free parking

Usu also has its own parking lot in the building, which made it convenient to visit by car. Parking is free for up to 3 hours, and there's no limit on the number of cars — a part I especially liked. A place where you can focus on the meal without worrying about parking, whether stopping by after work or for an important appointment!

### What the private rooms at Usu feel like

Usu also operates year-round with no closed days, so it's a good spot to visit on your own schedule. Another plus is that the whole restaurant is made up of private rooms — a private atmosphere that suits anniversaries and dates, but also works well for meeting the in-laws, business entertaining, or any important gathering.

## Usu dinner menu and what the Dinner B course includes

Once seated in the room, the water served was barley tea — a plus for me right there. Usu's dinner menu is made up of a Premium Course and Courses A and B, and hanwoo can also be chosen by gram weight. We went with the Usu Dinner B Course. It's built around hanwoo, with a variety of dishes served step by step!!

- Ox and chicken jinjuk (thick porridge)
- Four bite-sized dishes
- Shiitake shrimp, zucchini
- Hanwoo yukhoe (beef tartare) with gamtae (sea lettuce)
- Jeju tilefish
- 1++ hanwoo tteokgalbi (grilled beef patty)
- Abalone five-color gardenia noodles
- Personal grill: 1++ hanwoo omakase-style course
- Seasonal fish pot rice
- Rice-and-soup set
- Dessert

### The ingredients shown before the Usu Dinner B course

Before the course began, the ingredients to be used were laid out in a showing room, so you could take a look first. Seeing the ingredients with your own eyes and hearing the menu explanation made the food feel even more trustworthy~

## Beef and chicken jinjuk (thick porridge)

![First dish of the dinner course: ox and chicken jinjuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-06-1s78x-900.webp)

The first dish served was ox and chicken jinjuk. A rich porridge simmered with hanwoo bone broth and chicken stock, combining nurungji (scorched rice), shiitake mushrooms, white ear mushrooms, and asparagus — a great appetizer with good texture and a wonderful aroma.

## The four bite-sized starters at Usu

![Plating of the four bite-sized dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-07-x0eer-900.webp)

![Lobster taco and bulgogi sandwich among the bite-sized dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-08-kj3pt-900.webp)

The Usu dinner course starts off with bite-sized dishes that are easy to enjoy. Both eyes and mouth were happy — a harmonious mix of seafood and hanwoo, with scallop and clam, sweet shrimp with fried kim (seaweed), lobster taco, and bulgogi sandwich, four showy little bites. Even a single small dish had a delicate combination of ingredients and plating, which made for a great first impression!

## Shiitake mushroom with shrimp, and young zucchini

![Shiitake shrimp and zucchini roll dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-09-kboj3-900.webp)

![Zucchini roll served with peanut tofu sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-10-1chfi-900.webp)

Next came a visually striking dish — shrimp, mashed tofu, aged kimchi, and golden enoki mushrooms rolled together with shiitake and zucchini, dipped in a peanut tofu sauce. Personally one of the most memorable dishes.

![Plate of hanwoo yukhoe with gamtae](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-11-1udv1-900.webp)

## Hanwoo yukhoe (beef tartare) with gamtae seaweed

Next up was hanwoo yukhoe with gamtae — dishes highlighting the flavor of hanwoo alternating with seafood and vegetable dishes kept things interesting throughout. In particular, having the staff explain the ingredients and characteristics of each dish was another strength of this Seoul Korean restaurant. For anyone considering Usu's Gongdeok dinner, this kind of thoughtful course structure really boosts satisfaction.

## Jeju okdom (tilefish)

Next came barley rice topped with a piece of tilefish, wild chervil, and mullet roe — dipping it in neungi mushroom broth brought out the chervil's aroma, the texture of the mullet roe, and the savory flavor of the well-grilled tilefish!

## 1++ hanwoo tteokgalbi (grilled beef patty)

Served only with the dinner course at this Seoul Korean restaurant, the tteokgalbi (grilled beef patty) is made with 1++ hanwoo and shiitake, topped with crushed pistachio, celeriac purée, white balsamic sauce, and basil oil — fragrant and great in texture. A course you could really savor bite by bite, a nice touch for this private-room Gongdeok restaurant.

## Abalone with five-color gardenia noodles

![Plating of abalone five-color gardenia noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-13-15qs0-900.webp)

The course at this Gongdeok restaurant really kept coming with variety, no chance to get tired of it — the abalone five-color gardenia noodles felt like a palate refresher after everything so far, with abalone, seasoned chervil, perilla leaf, and gardenia noodles, dressed with gamtae dressing and mustard-garlic sauce for a refreshing finish!

## 1++ hanwoo grilled to order on a personal charcoal brazier

![1++ hanwoo sirloin omakase-style course presentation](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-14-17hg6-900.webp)

![Hanwoo sirloin and garnishes served with the personal grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-15-12tz8-1200.webp)

Since this Gongdeok restaurant specializes in hanwoo dining, the dish I was most looking forward to was, of course, the beef. The main hanwoo sirloin was served with a personal grill, and garnishes were prepared alongside the meat so you could dress it up to your taste!

![Hanwoo sirloin placed on the personal grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-16-kpudf-900.webp)

![Grilling hanwoo sirloin at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-17-w774v-900.webp)

The biggest advantage of the personal grill is being able to cook the meat to your preferred doneness yourself, and being able to focus more on the meat in a private room — a great space to really savor the flavor of the beef!!

![A grilled piece of hanwoo sirloin](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-18-14f3c-900.webp)

![Grilled hanwoo served with garnishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-19-1wec0-900.webp)

Grilling it slowly, piece by piece, really let the sirloin's distinctive savory flavor and juiciness come through — so good~

## Seasonal fish pot rice and the side-dish spread

![Seasonal fish pot rice made with sea bream](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-21-zp2a1-900.webp)

![Rice-and-soup set including hanwoo seaweed soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-22-w4ehe-900.webp)

![Full spread of pot rice and rice-and-soup set](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-23-1x6yd-900.webp)

The seasonal fish pot rice and rice-and-soup set that came with the grilled beef were also impressive — pot rice cooked with sea bream and hanwoo seaweed soup were genuinely filling. With warm pot rice and soup added in, the meal wrapped up satisfyingly, right up to the end, all with high-quality ingredients~

## Dessert at Usu

![Corn ice cream dessert with green tangerine cream sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course/gongdeok-woosoo-weeknight-dinner-b-course-24-1194n-900.webp)

The final dessert at this Gongdeok restaurant. Corn ice cream served with corn cream cheese and sponge cake, drizzled with green tangerine cream sauce. The subtle sweetness of the corn, the soft cream cheese, and the refreshing tang of the tangerine sauce came together beautifully. Even after all that rich hanwoo, this dessert was light and refreshing, a genuinely nice way to close out the meal!!

## Which occasions suit Usu in Gongdeok?

After tasting the full course, I was satisfied not just with the food but with the service, atmosphere, and menu explanations overall — a Seoul Korean restaurant that delivers all around. Being able to focus privately on the meal makes it a great fit for anniversaries, dates, meeting the in-laws, or business entertaining — highly recommend!! And free corkage on top of it all makes this Gongdeok favorite even more appealing.
