## In short

Anok is a hanok Korean restaurant tucked in a quiet alley in Hongdae, Seoul, 8 minutes on foot from Hongik University Station. Clear gomtang (beef bone broth, 13,000 won), Pyongyang naengmyeon-water (14,000 won) and a plate of warm jeyuk (pork) (24,000 won) arrived together without any gap in the flow. Today I visited Anok, a Hongdae gomtang (beef bone broth) restaurant where you can eat quietly in an old-fashioned hanok, tucked inside a Hongdae alley that's always crowded and loud whenever I pass by! Let me introduce it right away~

## Getting to Anok from Hongik University Station

Anok, a Hongdae gomtang restaurant, is an 8-minute walk from exit 9 of Hongik University Station on Line 2. It's easier to reach by going up the stairs next to the main alley.

Anok is a hanok tucked inside a quiet alley, and even the waiting area outside the restaurant had a hanok feel. It was so surprising that a place like this exists right in the middle of Hongdae.

- Hours: 11:00–22:00 (LAST ORDER 21:00)
- Closed every Monday
- Address: 13-4 Hongik-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul (Seogyo-dong 358-103)

![Interior with Korean-style lighting and kitchen visible through the curtains](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-06-1wpll-900.webp)

## Inside the hanok and the table setting

The interior also had that Korean flair, so I think foreign visitors would love it too. The lighting had a touch of Korean style as well. Through a gap in the curtains I could see the clean kitchen, which made me trust the hygiene here haha.

You order through the tablet on the table! Salt and pepper were set out on the table, and tissues and wet wipes were ready too, so I didn't need to ask for anything extra.

## Anok's menu lineup

Here's the menu at Anok, the Hongdae gomtang restaurant! For mains they sell clear gomtang / Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold noodles) / yukhoe bibimbap, along with dishes to share like donbokjaeng-ban, hanwoo bulgogi hot pot, braised pork tail, onjeyuk (warm stir-fried pork), yukhoe (beef tartare), deodeok gui (grilled bellflower root), cheese potato pancake, and kimchi jeon. You can also add extra meat, noodle refills or rice, which was great.

## Side dishes: gungchae pickle, napa kimchi, kkakdugi, gochu-ji

After ordering, they brought out clean, neatly arranged side dishes. The spoons and chopsticks were tidily set on rests too, which was nice.

![Well-fermented, tangy napa cabbage kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-12-ztn7u-900.webp)

![Anok's kkakdugi side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-13-59r57-900.webp)

![Gochu-ji, good mixed into rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-14-1srod-900.webp)

They served gungchae pickle (pickled gungchae stem), napa cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) and gochu-ji (chili paste pickle). The gungchae pickle had a really nice crunchy, crisp texture, and the napa kimchi was well-fermented and tangy, also delicious. I thought the gochu-ji was salted seafood at first but it wasn't — it seemed like it would be great mixed into plain white rice.

## A set of clear gomtang, Pyongyang naengmyeon and warm pork

Today I ordered clear gomtang (13,000 won), Pyongyang naengmyeon-water (14,000 won), and a plate of onjeyuk, warm pork (24,000 won)!

It was great that everything came out at once so the flow wasn't broken haha. Even with just two mains and one dish, the table was completely full.

![A bowl of Anok's clear-broth Pyongyang naengmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-19-1al7y-966.webp)

### Pyongyang naengmyeon

The Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) came in a clear broth that was mild but still carried the taste of meat without being greasy — the kind of flavor even naengmyeon beginners could enjoy. They also gave mustard and vinegar to add to taste, but I found it tasted best pure, without either!

### Clear gomtang

The clear gomtang came with the rice already mixed in, and its standout feature was the incredibly clear broth. Anok's broth apparently gets subtle depth from carefully selected medicinal ingredients like astragalus root and burdock, and is skimmed of fat with precision over 48 hours, leaving only the clean, deep purity of Korean pork at its core! The combination of clear gomtang with tangy napa kimchi was really great haha.

![Warm pork plate served with seasoned minari](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-20-15wra-900.webp)

### Onjeyuk (warm pork)

The onjeyuk came with a side of seasoned water dropwort (minari), and the combination of the tangy minari and the pork, which had no off smell at all, was great. It would also make a good dish to pair with drinks.

## Amenities: apron, restroom, even dental floss

If you need an apron, disposable ones are available in the restaurant, and there's a clean restroom inside too, so it was comfortable to use!

![Dental floss provided for after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk/anok-hongdae-hanok-gomtang-onjeyuk-23-z2epb-900.webp)

They even had dental floss ready for after the meal! Such a thoughtful touch to freshen up after eating haha.

This was Anok, a Hongdae gomtang restaurant where you can quietly enjoy a calm, old-fashioned meal in the middle of crowded, noisy Hongdae. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a truly Korean-feeling restaurant!!
