## In short

52 Degree Kalguksu Oido Main Branch is a seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Oido-ro in Siheung, Gyeonggi. Booked through Naver Reservation and visited at 12:30 pm, the meal was the seafood hot pot kalguksu for two (42,000 won) with a bowl of rice and a cola, with abalone, octopus, crab and clams simmered in the pot and the noodles added last. Mixing rice into the crab shell and a broth that grew richer the longer it simmered were the reasons for coming back to 52 Degree Kalguksu.

On the way to a festival in Songdo, I was trying to figure out what to eat for lunch when 52 Degree Kalguksu Oido Main Branch came to mind, so this time I went with my partner. I'd been before, but my partner hadn't, and we'd always said we'd go together someday. We finally made it happen this time haha.

ㄴ If it's a place you keep going back to, the taste must be pretty much guaranteed, right?

We made a reservation in advance through Naver and arrived around 12:30pm. My partner and I ordered the seafood hot pot kalguksu for two, a bowl of rice, and a cola.

## Where to park at 52 Degree Kalguksu when the lot is full

52 Degree Kalguksu has its own parking lot behind the restaurant. When we arrived it was already full, so we were circling around nearby, and luckily we spotted a spot open up in the street parking area facing the sea in front of the restaurant, so we zipped right in haha.

If the restaurant's own lot is full, you can also use a paid parking lot nearby. After your meal, just tell the counter staff and they'll give you a 60-minute parking discount voucher.

The moment I saw the exterior I thought, huh, this feels like Jeju Island? lol. It's decorated with black stone, so it really had that Jeju vibe.

## Inside 52 Degree Kalguksu and the 2nd-floor sea-view window seats

Inside, the restaurant was clean overall, and there were quite a lot of tables on the 1st floor. We walked right in with no wait, but since it was lunchtime there were already a lot of customers.

![Store fridge stocked with Udo peanuts and Hallasan soju](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-08-1wqfi-900.webp)

The fridge even had Udo peanuts and Hallasan soju lol. They really carried the Jeju concept through to details like that.

We were shown up to the 2nd floor. On the stairs there was an autograph from Hunterpung, a YouTuber I've been watching a lot lately, so I was happily surprised haha.

There were a lot of customers on the 2nd floor too, but we got lucky and landed a window seat.

![Table at a 2nd floor window seat](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-12-1myy8-900.webp)

![View of the Oido sea at low tide with water receded](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-14-1asw8-m-900.webp)

It was a seat with a view of the Oido sea through the window. Unfortunately it happened to be low tide when we went, so the water had mostly receded already, which was a bit disappointing ㅠㅠ. If the tide had been in, it would've been so much prettier!! Still, the view was wide open, so it felt refreshing and nice overall.

## 52 Degree Kalguksu menu and prices

![Menu board and price list at 52 Degree Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-15-pr0nl-754.webp)

What we ordered was the seafood hot pot kalguksu for two at ₩42,000, one bowl of rice, and one cola. The seafood hot pot kalguksu is ₩21,000 per person.

At first I thought the price seemed a bit high for kalguksu, but once I saw the variety and amount of seafood that came out, it didn't feel expensive at all.

## Barley rice served before the kalguksu arrives

![A taste of barley rice served before the main dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-16-1md8w-900.webp)

![Yeolmu kimchi placed on top of the barley rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-17-44dll-900.webp)

While we waited for the kalguksu, a small taste of barley rice came out first. They cut up yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) over the barley rice, added chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), and we mixed it all together. I actually love barley rice, so this was way more delicious than I expected lol. The portion was really just enough for a little taste before the main dish, so that part was a bit of a shame!!

## What's in the seafood hot pot kalguksu for two

Finally, the seafood hot pot kalguksu arrived! You could tell at a glance it was loaded with seafood — way more generous than I expected~

And the abalone was still alive, wriggling around! Seeing it move right in front of us definitely made it look fresh.

A staff member poured broth into the pot and gave us a simple explanation of how to eat it.

### How to eat the seafood hot pot kalguksu in order

The eating order was also written on the table: once the broth boils, eat the octopus and beef brisket first, flip the crab once, then eat the cooked seafood and vegetables, and add the kalguksu noodles last.

![Pot of seafood hot pot kalguksu with octopus, abalone, and crab](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-20-1atwu-900.webp)

There was octopus, abalone, crab, clams and various other shellfish, plus beef brisket and vegetables — really a wide variety. The staff member told us that octopus can get chewy if cooked too long, so it's best to eat it first, so we did right away! It wasn't tough at all, it was chewy in a good way and delicious~

![Clams and shellfish pulled from the boiling broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-21-1f60i-900.webp)

![Richened seafood broth with cooked seafood](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-22-17gu0-900.webp)

Picking out clams, octopus, abalone, and crab one by one, the seafood was generously packed again this time. The seafood itself was great, but I especially loved the broth. At first it was clear, refreshing, and lightly salty, but as it kept boiling, the seafood flavor gradually seeped in and the broth got much richer. The longer it cooked, the deeper the flavor got — personally, the broth was the best part haha.

## Cracking the crab and mixing rice in the shell

Once the crab was cooked, the staff member cracked it open for us so it was easy to eat. Honestly, the reason we ordered a bowl of rice in the first place was because of this crab lol. We put rice into the crab shell and mixed it with the leftover roe and innards — crab shell really does call for rice...haha.

![Rice mixed into the crab shell](https://img.superchart.com/images/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice/oido-fifty-two-kalguksu-crab-shell-rice-23-dwbyr-966.webp)

The crab shell is irresistible!!! (ᐢ👍🏻 > ̫ < ᐢ) 👍🏻 They also cleared away the shellfish shells that piled up along the way, which made it easy to keep eating comfortably.

## Adding the kalguksu noodles at the end

After eating most of the seafood, we finally added the kalguksu noodles. Since the broth had already absorbed so much seafood flavor, the noodles soaked it up perfectly too. The noodles were thick and chewy, so the texture was great as well. The kimchi that came with it was also tasty enough that we got a refill, and it paired really well! Between the seafood, the rice, and the noodles at the end, the two of us ate until we were completely full.

When we went to pay after finishing, I noticed the counter had disposable mouthwash set out, one per person, haha. It was nice that they had this ready to use after eating seafood!

## Is 52 Degree Kalguksu in Oido worth a return visit?

This was a place I'd enjoyed before, so this time I went back with my partner — and sure enough, there was a reason I kept coming back haha. The seafood was generous, but above all, the broth that got richer the longer it boiled was truly delicious. Mixing rice into the crab shell and finishing with the kalguksu noodles left us properly full.

Next time I think of kalguksu in Oido, I'll probably come back here again haha. If you're looking for a generous seafood kalguksu in Oido, I'd recommend giving 52 Degree Kalguksu a try 👍🏻👍🏻
