## In short

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café on the coastal road at Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung, right next to Gyeongpodae, with three floors plus a fourth-floor rooftop. On a late-summer trip, a third-floor window seat at Baegya Coffee paired an egg tart, krungji (crispy croissant chips) and a croissant with an iced americano (5,500 won) and a butterscotch shot latte (6,800 won), followed by ocean-view photos on the terrace stairs. If you like the taste of coffee candy, the butterscotch shot latte at Baegya Coffee is the drink to order.

I took a slightly late summer vacation to Gangneung. No Gangneung trip is complete without healing time at an ocean-view café looking out over the blue sea. I headed to Baegya Coffee, a large bakery café with Sacheonjin Beach spread out right in front, just next to Gyeongpodae. It's genuinely huge — a three-story building plus a fourth-floor rooftop! There's a spacious parking lot both in front and behind the building too, which made it easy to stop by during the trip.

## Where is Baegya Coffee? Parking and opening hours

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café at 607 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, on the coastal road by Sacheonjin Beach right next to Gyeongpodae. It's open daily from 09:00 to 21:00, last order at 20:30, and it's about a 15-minute walk from Gyeongpo Beach.

This was a genuinely massive bakery café. The café's own parking lot is huge, and you can also park for free across the street at the Sacheonjin Beach lot.

## First-floor bakery and counter: how to order and pick your beans

The first floor of Baegya Coffee is where you order drinks and bread and return your finished cups. There are also a few tables on one side.

You claim a seat first, then order. After picking your bread, you choose a drink too. You can also choose your beans — the default is night, a nutty roast, and you can switch to white (more acidic, +₩500) or decaf (+₩500). I picked two things that go well with bread: an iced americano (₩5,500) and a butterscotch shot latte (₩6,800).

## Elevator tray stands, charging cables and other amenities

Since Baegya Coffee's building goes all the way up to a fourth-floor rooftop, there's an elevator, and inside it there are two little shelves installed just for setting down your tray. So many cafés these days are gorgeously decorated, but it's these small conveniences that actually raise my satisfaction even more.

At other large bakery cafés I've always worried about spilling my drink in the elevator, so this kind of thoughtful little touch really stood out.

There are baby chairs on every floor, and plenty of phone charging cables set out so you can top up your battery mid-trip.

## Inside the second and third floors of Baegya Coffee

I settled on the third floor of Baegya Coffee, where the sea view is even better. The interior is clean, in white and wood tones, with a full window wall facing the ocean so you can take in the view, and there's also access out to the terrace. Being a large café, the tables were spaced generously apart, so conversation was easy and comfortable.

The second floor, which connects directly to the parking lot behind the building, has a sleeker feel in white and black tones. What stood out especially were the stepped tables facing the sea, arranged so you can sit in a row looking out.

## A quiet ocean view 1 km from Gyeongpodae

Just about 1km up from the crowded Gyeongpodae beach, you can enjoy the relatively quiet ocean views at Baegya Coffee. It almost feels like you can hear the waves!

## Egg tart, krungji and croissant with the butterscotch shot latte

For bread I picked three things — egg tart, kkurungji (crispy baked rice pastry), and croissant — a dream combination that let me enjoy creamy, crispy, and moist textures all at once!

![Egg tart, kkurungji, and croissant from Baegya Coffee](https://img.superchart.com/images/baekya-coffee-gangneung-butterscotch-terrace/baekya-coffee-gangneung-butterscotch-terrace-17-yts3r-m-900.webp)

I love butterscotch hard candy, so the butterscotch shot latte here tasted exactly like that candy turned into a delicious drink. If you're a coffee-candy lover like me, you have to try it! The americano was also nutty and clean, in a good way.

Traveling in Gangneung means recharging your sugar levels with bread 👍

## Ocean-view photos on the terrace stairs

With weather this nice, not going up to Baegya Coffee's terrace would be a foul! A cool breeze was blowing through, and it would've been nice to just sit up there too. The terrace has a stair-style photo zone installed, so I got to leave with some great photos of the Gangneung ocean view.

Baegya Coffee, the large bakery café facing Sacheonjin Beach — if you're looking for an ocean-view café in Gangneung, head straight next to Gyeongpodae, to Sacheonjin Beach!
