## In short

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미) is a jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) and naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant about a minute from Munmak IC in Wonju, Gangwon. Three adults and a 37-month-old arrived right at the 11am opening after an appointment at Wonju Severance, ordering three servings of jjukkumi-saeu (baby octopus with shrimp) in medium spice and one codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon, and the jjukkumi order came with a bowl of muksabal (acorn jelly soup). Alternating the spicy octopus mixed with self-serve bean sprouts and the icy cold noodles was the most memorable part of the meal at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi.

We came over to Munmak for a late breakfast-slash-early lunch as a family after my mom's appointment at Wonju Severance Hospital. Three adults plus my 37-month-old joined, and we had jjukkumi-saeu (spicy stir-fried octopus with shrimp) and codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon (mixed cold noodles with dried pollack sashimi). Let me walk through parking, the menu, and what made it easy to visit with a toddler.

My mom had an appointment at Wonju Severance not long ago, so we all went to Wonju together as a family. Once the appointment wrapped up, we started getting hungry. While looking for somewhere to eat, we headed to Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi in Munmak. We went as four — three adults and a 37-month-old — and since they open at 11am, the timing worked out well for a late breakfast/early lunch.

## One minute from Munmak IC: how is parking at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi?

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi's Munmak branch is about a minute from Munmak IC. We came from Wonju Severance, and since it's so close to the IC, it was a convenient spot to stop for a meal while driving through. The first thing that caught my eye when we arrived was the parking lot.

![The wide parking lot stretching out front of the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-03-a1tdn-966.webp)

The parking space stretched pretty wide out front. According to the restaurant's own guide, it's roughly 200 pyeong and can even fit large buses. As in the photo, several cars were already parked when we visited, but there was still plenty of room, so we parked right away and headed in. When you're moving as a family with a car, parking is usually the first thing you worry about, but that day we didn't have any of that hassle before we even started eating.

## Opening at 11am, and how spacious the Munmak dining room is

![Business hours posted at the entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-04-1g691-966.webp)

The hours were posted right at the entrance. At the time of our visit, it said OPEN AM 11:00, CLOSED PM 09:00. That timing worked well for us since we came straight over after the morning appointment. For reference, the break time was listed as 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Hours and break times can change, so I'd recommend checking the latest info before you go.

![Interior of the restaurant with tables spaced comfortably apart](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-05-1wh0d-966.webp)

Once inside, the place was bigger than I expected. Even with several tables set up, nothing felt cramped or packed together — overall it felt pretty comfortable.

As someone visiting with a kid, I immediately noticed they had baby chairs. My toddler is 37 months now and can sit in a regular chair sometimes, but a lot of parents eating out still check for baby chairs first. If you're looking for family-friendly spots in Munmak like we were, this is worth keeping in mind. The space felt generous enough that it could easily handle family gatherings or group meals too.

## The menu at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi is wider than expected

![Three servings of jjukkumi-saeu and codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon at Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi in Munmak](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-06-1ec1p-966.webp)

Going in, I assumed from the name alone that naengmyeon and jjukkumi were the only real focus, but the menu board turned out to have quite a range. Beyond naengmyeon and jjukkumi, there was gukbap (rice soup), jeongol (hot pot), mandu (dumplings), and more. Sure enough, while we were there I saw people eating naengmyeon, others eating jjukkumi, and others eating gukbap. When you're out with family and everyone wants something different, it's nice not to be locked into a single dish.

![Instructions for eating jjukkumi posted on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-07-nzrce-966.webp)

The table had the jjukkumi menu and eating instructions posted, which was something to glance at while we waited.

## Three servings of jjukkumi-saeu plus codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon

![Table set with jjukkumi-saeu and naengmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-08-r33vq-966.webp)

![The full order of jjukkumi-saeu, three servings](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-09-df747-966.webp)

What we ordered that day was three servings of jjukkumi-saeu and one codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon.

Since we were out with a 37-month-old, we picked the mildest spice level for the jjukkumi. That said, it wasn't ordered as something for the toddler to eat — she only had a few bites of shrimp, and the adults ate the rest.

![Octopus and shrimp stir-fried in red sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-10-68gg0-966.webp)

The octopus, vegetables, and shrimp come stir-fried together in a red sauce. The octopus was chewy, but honestly the shrimp caught my eye first.

The shrimp weren't tiny at all — they were plump and pretty large. I didn't count how many pieces there were exactly, but each one I picked up was a good size.

I also tried wrapping some in perilla leaves, and the added perilla aroma gave it a different flavor entirely.

## Muksabal (acorn jelly soup) comes free with the jjukkumi order

![Muksabal served alongside the jjukkumi order](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-11-1my67-966.webp)

Ordering the jjukkumi got us muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup) too, automatically. It was quite hot that day, so switching between spicy jjukkumi bites and cool spoonfuls of muksabal was a great way to cool the palate in between. It was nice that this came with the meal without having to order it separately.

## Mixing self-serve bean sprouts into the spicy jjukkumi

![Self-serve corner for side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-13-1vlu6-966.webp)

![Bean sprouts mixed into the jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-14-830cd-966.webp)

Extra side dishes were available at a self-serve corner, take as much as you need. There was a sign asking guests to only take what they'd eat, so we grabbed just a little of what we needed. I brought back extra bean sprouts and mixed them into the jjukkumi.

Mixed together like this, it suited my taste even more. The sauce coated the bean sprouts naturally, and the crunchy texture against the octopus was great too. I started out eating it plain, but after that I kept adding bean sprouts throughout the meal.

## A hot day calls for codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon too

![Codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon topped with shaved ice](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-15-1du55-966.webp)

![Naengmyeon and jjukkumi set together on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-16-9g03s-966.webp)

![Bowl of naengmyeon topped with codari-hoe](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-17-pfs47-966.webp)

We also ordered one codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon that day. It arrived piled high with icy shaved ice, looking refreshing the moment it hit the table.

![Picking up noodles and codari-hoe together](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-18-1u736-966.webp)

After a bite of jjukkumi followed by a bite of naengmyeon, I understood why people order these two together. Going from spicy, warm octopus to cold noodles gave two completely different flavors, and alternating between them worked really well. Of everything we ate that day, this combination was the most memorable.

![Noodles and radish picked up together with codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-19-1o58z-966.webp)

Picking up the noodles, codari-hoe (dried pollack sashimi), and radish together gave a tangy, spicy flavor plus the extra texture of the pollack. That said, do check for small bones while eating the codari-hoe — my mom actually found and spat out a tiny bone while eating. Since it's fish, bones can remain, so eat slowly and check carefully, especially when serving it to a child.

## Visiting the Munmak restaurant with a 37-month-old: what to know

![Disposable aprons available in one corner of the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-20-1vufv-966.webp)

When you're out with a kid, you notice things beyond the food — the restrooms here were separated by gender. Disposable aprons were also available, handy for dishes like jjukkumi where red sauce can splatter.

![Coffee machine available after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon/munmak-jjukkumi-shrimp-kodari-naengmyeon-21-17qd9-966.webp)

After finishing the meal, there was also a coffee machine available. Each of these is a small thing on its own, but having amenities like this really does make a difference when you're wrapping up a family meal.

If you're curious about ingredient origins, there was an origin-labeling board posted in the restaurant. In the photo I took during my visit, the board listed the octopus as being from Vietnam/Thailand, and the salted shrimp from China/Vietnam, among others. If you want to check origins for specific menu items, zooming into the photo should help.

## Is Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi worth it for a family lunch?

We stopped by Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi's Munmak branch for a late breakfast/early lunch as a family after my mom's appointment at Wonju Severance. What stuck with me most was mixing bean sprouts into the jjukkumi and how plump the shrimp were. Since it was a hot day, ordering the codari-hoemul bibim naengmyeon with its mound of shaved ice was also a good call.

Moving around as three adults plus a 37-month-old, parking and space always end up on my mind, but the lot was spacious and the interior had plenty of room, so we ate comfortably from start to finish. If you're looking for a family lunch spot near Munmak IC, or want jjukkumi and cold refreshing noodles together, this is worth keeping in mind. 😊
