## In short

Minja Hoetjip is a sashimi restaurant inside Jumunjin Fish Market in Gangneung, directly across from the coastal parking tower. Two people visited on a weekday around 5pm and ordered the small rockfish and sea bream set for 80,000 won, which came with side dishes, mulhoe guksu (cold raw fish noodle soup) and maeuntang (spicy fish stew), and watched the fish sliced in front of them. For anyone who judges a Jumunjin sashimi restaurant by portion and value for money, Minja Hoetjip delivers.

On a trip to Gangneung, I wanted to eat some really good sashimi, so I stopped by a place right in front of the sea — Minja Hoetjip. Gangneung has so many sashimi restaurants that it's honestly hard to choose, but this time I went looking for a Jumunjin sashimi restaurant with good value for money and ended up here!

In the end, the two of us ate way more than we expected, so it was pretty satisfying. We ordered the rockfish + sea bream small size set, and it wasn't just sashimi — it came with side dishes, mulhoe guksu (cold raw fish noodle soup), and even maeuntang (spicy fish stew), so by the end we were stuffed full.

## Where is Minja Hoetjip? Inside Jumunjin Fish Market, steps from the sea

What I liked most about Minja Hoetjip was its location near the sea. If you've traveled all the way to Gangneung, eating a plate of sashimi while looking at the ocean is part of the fun, right? Minja Hoetjip is right in front of the sea, so it had a great atmosphere for a meal stop during the trip.

It's also a plus that if you're planning a trip around Jumunjin, this spot fits right in with the sightseeing. You don't need to go out of your way for sashimi — it's easy to add to a Jumunjin itinerary.

We walked through the long corridors of the fish market and found Minja Hoetjip by its sign!

Minja Hoetjip, a well-known sashimi restaurant in Jumunjin for a Gangneung trip, also does takeaway, but we ate inside the restaurant this time. We went around 5pm on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded at all — nice!

## What the 80,000 won small rockfish and sea bream set includes for two

![In-store menu board and price list at Minja Hoetjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set-09-hzywr-900.webp)

Please check the menu board for prices! The prices listed on Naver Place were a bit different from the actual menu. Go by the in-store menu prices for the most up-to-date info!!

This time, the two of us had the rockfish + sea bream small size set for ₩80,000, and it came with a solid combination of side dishes + mulhoe guksu + maeuntang all included in the set!

Rockfish + sea bream small size, plenty for two! Here's the rockfish + sea bream small size set we ordered. Since it was for two people, I figured the portion of sashimi would just be modest, but once the food was actually laid out, it was way more generous than expected. The sashimi was fresh, and being able to eat both rockfish and sea bream together made it fun to compare the texture and taste of the two fish.

### Watching the fish cleaned and sliced in front of the table

What impressed me most was being able to watch the fish get caught and sliced right in front of us. Seeing the sea bream and rockfish prepped and sliced up close was fascinating, and it was fun to see exactly how our order was being prepared. Watching an expert slice sashimi that close really made it feel like true travel-worthy sashimi.

![A piece of sashimi dipped in ssamjang and chojang](https://img.superchart.com/images/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set-13-3flyt-900.webp)

![Fresh sashimi served with ssamjang and chojang](https://img.superchart.com/images/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set-14-dhi08-900.webp)

We dipped the sashimi in tasty ssamjang (thick soybean paste) and chojang (vinegared chili paste), and it was chewy and fresh — delicious! Must be because it was just-caught sashimi. The portion is quite generous for two adults. A recommended good-value sashimi spot in Gangneung!

![Side dishes laid out at Minja Hoetjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set-15-1q4xs-900.webp)

![Mulhoe guksu included in the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set-16-1ed86-900.webp)

![Spicy maeuntang served at the end of the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set/jumunjin-minja-hoetjip-rockfish-seabream-set-17-1u7qm-900.webp)

## Beyond the sashimi: side dishes, mulhoe guksu and maeuntang

Another thing that made Minja Hoetjip satisfying was just how varied the food alongside the sashimi was. There were several side dishes, and partway through we got to enjoy mulhoe guksu too. Eating the tangy, cool mulhoe guksu in the middle of the sashimi felt like a real palate refresher, and at the end, maeuntang came out to properly finish off the meal.

Usually with sashimi meals, that's kind of it and you're done — but getting to enjoy mulhoe and maeuntang on top made it a much more filling meal overall, and the spicy, hot broth felt so good going down!!! Between the sashimi and all the side dishes, the two of us ate until we were completely full. So personally, I felt this was a good Jumunjin sashimi restaurant for anyone who cares about the composition and portion relative to the price.

One meal, completely stuffed, done and dusted!

## Is Minja Hoetjip good value for sashimi on a Gangneung trip?

On this Gangneung trip, visiting Minja Hoetjip and getting to enjoy rockfish + sea bream along with side dishes, mulhoe guksu, and maeuntang, all generously portioned for two, was genuinely satisfying!

### Thinking of sashimi takeaway in Jumunjin instead? A few notes

If you'd rather enjoy sashimi comfortably at your accommodation or pension, it's worth checking the takeaway options and set composition in advance. We ate in-store this time, but depending on your itinerary, taking sashimi to-go and eating it while looking at the sea from your accommodation is another great way to experience a Gangneung trip. Just note that the takeaway menu, composition, and prices may vary depending on when you visit, so it's best to check before you go!!
